I don’t struggle with smoking, but was curious about this philosophy as it applies to other addictive behaviors in life. The author has his quirks, but overall good food for thought + I respect the impact

Excellent. Exposes smoking and the lies smokers tell themselves that keeps them hooked. Even if you only think *maybe* *at some point* you never want to smoke again, read this book. And give it to anyone you know who wants out of the trap.

The book isn't perfect. Carr annoyed me at the beginning of the book by tooting his own horn; he obviously felt the need to prove he has credentials--and that makes sense, but there's too much.

But what makes the book amazing is that it systematically breaks down the myths about smoking (even the ones that I didn't think I subscribed to) and subtly sort of brainwashes you into hating smoking. You smoke as you read, which keeps the pressure off. And Carr's thinking is rational--and friendly. He doesn't condescend or use (many) scare tactics. Some of what he says is a little silly ("Now you can think, 'Yippee, I'm a non-smoker!'"), but that's okay. Sometimes you can see the wheels turning, but that doesn't detract from the book's effectiveness either.

His central idea is that quitting smoking isn't difficult as long as you don't see it as a sacrifice--perception is important. You aren't giving anything up; instead, you're freeing yourself from drug addiction.

The book really helped me feel ready to smoke that final cigarette and quit. I don't know for absolutely certain that I will never smoke again (although I hope I don't), but I feel better having his book to re-read whenever I need to.

Ok, so... today, it's 100 days since I've read the last page of Allan Carr's Easy Way, which also means it's my 100th smokefree day. Yay! It doesn't even feel like an achievement, which is pretty amazing actually, because it means that it doesn't require any effort.

Of course, my whole smoking history isn't as simple as that, and I don't want to bother you with it. Just a couple of thoughts: It's not the first time I've read the book, and it's not the first time I've quit, and I think both - especially the latter - have been necessary for me in order to be where I am now, i.e. very sure about never ever touching a cigarette again in my life. This time, my attitude towards smoking has changed entirely. I'm not sure why, but I'm happy it's the way it is. Perhaps, I'm feeling the same way Allan Carr did when he finally quit smoking for good. Now, I spot smokers and think 'Poor things! Enslaved by their addiction...'. After my last cigarette, there hasn't been a single moment I wanted to smoke. On the contrary! I feel so good about not having to inhale that nasty smoke anymore, and I don't understand how I could ever have done that regularly and voluntarily. Even while reading the book, I couldn't wait to finish it, so I could finally finally finish my very last cigarette and be free.

So... If you're a smoker, and you're willing and ready to quit, read this book! It's repetitive. It's not high literature. It's simple and a bit boring at times. But it's the best thing you can do! It can work magic. And even if it doesn't work the first time around, just try it again later. I'm sure even the most "convinced" chain smoker is able to become a convinced non-smoker again (again, because nobody is a convinced smoker when they start, that only comes later, along with a long list of excuses). Long story short, I can definitely recommend Carr's Easy Way!

Allen Carr doesn't try to scare you into quitting, which only perpetuates the fear and makes the smoker want to smoke more, rather he gets to the psychological root of WHY we smoke, stripping this addiction to its very core.

After reading this book, this is what I know - I will never again force myself to smoke another cigarette, come what may. And for the first time in 16 years, I feel truly free.

Fuck this shit. I'm buying a pack and I'm going to smoke every single one of the cigarettes inside it.

This book is retarded. Seriously, it is a stupid book.

But it works!
Been smoking for 20 years and have been trying to stop smoking more than a few times but to no avail.
This book did it for me, it has only been a month and a half, but I just don't get the urge, the need, or the craving for a cigarette.

Do yourself a favor and get this stupid book.

I refuse to get the patch, but seeing as how I'm a crazed book person, maybe I will allow myself to be aided by a book.
