A clueless detective investigates the collapse of several houses belonging to little pigs. Although there is literally a wolf in sheep's clothing hanging around every crime scene, he never catches on. A better take on the tale of the Three Little Pigs would be The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith.

In zesty small town spirit this book tells the whodunnit mystery involving three pigs getting bad advice from a mysterious sheep, some badgering old cows, and a detective dog who works as the narrator. As one can probably guess, this is yet another angle on the whole Three Little Pigs story, and yet it manages to be its own plot altogether, what with poor detective Doggedly spending his nights watching the pigs' place for signs of suspicious activity.

It's hilarious, fresh, and amazingly complex as a mystery that keeps itself secretive even as it dishes out the rather obvious clues--making it a good read for kids. The writing is incredible and demands to be read aloud with a bit of twang in the voice (really, it makes it that much more fun.)

Brilliant take on an old fairy tale.

In this mystery book, “Where’s the Big Bad Wolf by Eileen Christelow,” finds how the wolf finds a way to disturb the piggy's life without being caught by the police. The police in the beginning are distracted and have no clue what is going on. After trying to put the pieces together, the police find out it’s the wolf in disguise. This shows how the wolf says that he promises he won't get in any more trouble by finding a loophole. However, doing the same crimes over and over again, the police find out who it is through detecting who would commit such acts of crime. In a relatable way, there are times when I put myself in a situation that I know is something I should not be doing yet I try to find a way where no one finds out immediately. However, just like karma, someone eventually does and I pay the price. This was a WOW book for me because it’s very similar and a continuation of the story of the three little pigs and the big bad wolf. Add the plot of the wolf impersonating someone else makes this story more fun and interesting.

This is another fun, mystery read for elementary school students. It's one version of the three little pigs and the big bad wolf told from a different perspective. The narrator is a police detective dog named Phineas T. Doggedly and is looking for the big bad wolf who keeps being "bad" and disrupting the peace in town. We can relate this book to independent writing where students write from their own perspective talking about personal experience or persuasive essays where they try to convince the reader to side with whatever they are trying to say.

Detective Phineas T. Doggedly embarks on a mission to find the suspect responsible for of trying to harm the three innocent little piglets. While his gut feeling tells him that the "good-for-nothing, huffing , puffing Big Bad Wolf" could be behind these mysterious events, he knows like any great detective he needs to gather concrete evidence first. Oh the other hand, Big Bad Wolf claims to be innocent and believes he is being framed by someone else. Who could it be? Detective Phineas will have to remain alert at all times if he want to catch his suspect. In the end, he learn that things are not always what they seem.

This mystery story will give students a different perspective from the traditional story of the three little pigs. Teachers could use this story to teach various writing components such as character traits, dialogue, plot/setting, narrative writing. Students could also compare the various versions of the three little pigs and even come up with their own version. Students could also practice reading strategies such as inferencing and predicting with this story.

i liked looking at the pictures in this book. i thought the wolf dressed first as the sheep and then as a horse were funny. it made me laugh so i think it's a good book (age 5)
