My 6 year old and I both adored this book. It has wonderful pictures and dialogue. It was appropriate for his reading level, though it did take us a couple of nights to get through it.
This is a chapter book, and therefore it counts towards my year long total! I'll be honest, I picked it up because it was a very short chapter book, but it was charmingly written and illustrated. And the part where the Big Bad Wolf says, "Nobody believes in me anymore. I don't scare anyone. I'm done for." Well, how could that NOT make me think of Fables. Glad I read it!
What happens when a little boy finds the Big Bad Wolf in his closet? He's not so scary anymore and the boy names him Zorro, plays cowboy, and feeds him chocolate chip cookies until he regains his confidence in scaring people. Whimsical cartoon illustrations add to the appeal.Love the way the wolf is drawn -- he's so spry and full of charm. Pictures have a simple quality -- this is one of those that definitely does more with less -- such expression conveyed with so few lines! Originally published in French.
when a young boy encounters the big bad wolf one day after returning home from school, the wolf tells him that no one is afraid of him. So it's up to the boy to help Bernard/Zorro return to his glory days of scaring people, and being his big bad self again.
This kids book is so cool. We have checked it out from the library several times (which leads me to the question, why can't I lose a book like THIS one at home, one that I WANT to keep? I only seem to lose crappy library books I have no wish to own and then find later).
This book has really simple illustrations - see the cover - of the little boy and the big, bad, wolf who he is trying to help get his big, badness back. The wolf's name is really Bernard but the kid wants to call him Zorro. There are 8 chapters in this book as the kid and the wolf hang out together and the kid tries to teach Zorro about how to be scary.
Something about the simplicity of the illustrations and the funny text just kills us. Me and the 5 year old love this one.
