I don't know where to put this book category wise,
because it's got illustrations but it's long too.
A fun little chapter book about a boy
who finds the big bad wolf,
only, he's not so big and bad anymore.
I thought it was great fun.

This was a "so-so"kind of book for me. My daughter sat through the whole thing, so I assume she was content with it. The storyline could have been condensed a bit, but the few words on each page and illustrations could keep a child's interests.

The Big Bad Wolf has lost his monster closetness and needs help getting it back. No one wants a non scary closet monster. That can be depressing.
A kid is here to help and little by little he helps Bernard get his confidence back.
This totally adorable book will warm your heart. A thick story with minimal illustrations will help anyone going through issues gain confidence with the right people in their corner.
Practice makes perfect.

Hehehehehe. Simple line drawings and a very unimpressed little boy. I like it.

This has a decidedly European flavor (appropriate since it is a translation). It's often wordless, with subtle art and editorial comic style. The humor is sophisticated. It may not be the big bad wolf picture book every young American reader is looking for, but it will be interesting exposure.

Y tampoco me llamo Zorro.

Pero aaaawn :3

We put this on the 2007 NCTE Notable Children's Books in the Language Arts list. I think it is lovely!

The tale of a young kid (unnamed) who befriends the Big Bag Wolf (his name is Bernard). While I liked the art style, and much of the friendship, I found multiple problematic aspects to the story which makes me loath to read this to children.

At one point the child (who while not explicitly gendered, is drawn as boys are generally drawn), tells the wolf that he (the wolf) is "too big to cry," which I think is a very damaging for little children (especially little boys) to hear, especially when coming from the "hero" of a story. Additionally I felt the story set a poor example when it comes to consent and bodily autonomy. The child at one point decides that Bernard's name should be Zorro (because it is "cooler" than Bernard), even though Bernard tells him repeatedly that his name is Bernard and not Zorro, the child both attempts to bribe/coerce the wolf into going by Zorro, and later EVEN THOUGH THE WOLF NEVER AGREED calls him Zorro exclusively. It is obvious that ze knows this isn't right because at one point while looking for the wolf, ze calls out "Zorro" repeatedly until getting concerned and then calling "Bernard." Lastly, there is a scene in which Bernard and the child are playing "cowboys and Indians" where the child (depicted as white) calls the wolf "pale face." This type of racist caricature should not be glorified in a children's book.

All in all, the child in the book is who we (the readers) are meant to identify with, yet ze is hardly universal, instead being written as trading in racism and parroting sexist tropes and denying zir peer's bodily autonomy.

this is an accessible book in both image and text.
it is set up to be a sort of early graphic novel in chapters. The story is very sweet and both the characters are enticing and you root for the big bad wolf and the little boy.
