During summer vacation four teen boys discover an old workroom filled with antique furniture and other items like surgical tools bought from auctions that belonged to Jack the Ripper, Jeffery Dahmer and other high profile serial killers.
When the boys enter this room a weird spell falls over them, they lose track of time. They soon share the same nightmares and wake up in the morning to find that their friends are murdered in similar ways that the serial killers murdered their victims. The teens are freaked out by this because they can't figure out if they actually did these heinous crimes or if they were just dreams.
Picked this one up in a charity shop and then forgot all about it until cleaning my study. Not very thrilling and certainly not scary. Cliched and wood characters. Supposed contemporary setting, but by the way the characters act and speak, you'd think it was set in the 1950s if it wasn't for the references to cell phones and internet. Still... it was ab easy read and fairly entertained. Holiday read would sum it up.
This book was so fun to read. It brought me back to my childhood and made me feel like I was watching that old scary tv show with my cousins again. I don't know if you remember the TV show, "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" But if you grew up in the 90s, then you would probably know it. The way the story was written makes you feel like you are sitting around a fire, the air is crisp and the fire crackles as you – with a cup of coffee in hand, tell these spine-tingling, goosebumps-inducing stories.
Wow, just wow. I'm amazed. This is my first time reading one of the John Saul's book...why no one told me that his style is fast paced and it's an awesome horror to start with??! Of course, now my major plan is to find more second books by him and read them asap
In the Dark of the Night by John Saul is an eye catching masterpiece that mirrors terror from the outset to the last. Sometimes, readers find as the terror _in the fictional work _ is all around them. The ignominious events _laden of fears _ kick off when Tad Spark family adjudicates on a family adventure to a hilly and permafrosted spot namely Pinecrest. They take a house on rent in the Pinecrest. On reaching their rented house ,they search every corner of the house they plan to spend their summar vacation in. After a protracted quest, one of them doubt that place for a horror. The doubt ,then, come out exactly the way they thought. Afterward,Tad,Erric and Kent embark on an adventure of clutching trout from a lake. On their way back, one of them finds that the pine trees are moving all around them while rowing. It goes on and finally the cloud- begins covering the sky- followed it. On rowing, they tackled heavy downpour. On the cost of which, engine of their boat went out of order. Somehow, they pulled the boat to a distant seashore. It was a heavy atmosphere of terrorism and intimidation that went through them. Moreover,Adam Mosler and McLven are the real antagonists in this masterpiece. Their task is to further exacerbate the intensity of the quaint for them. One day, Adam Mosler along with his partner Mclven caught a speed boat and took after Tad,Kent and Erric. They -Adam Mosler and Mclven -tentalized them as much as they could. With much struggle and toiling they _though_ survived their tentalization. Some days after staying in house, they embarked on an adventure again. They pay a spree to the Phantom Lake. Spending sometime,a case of Tiffany Hanover at the Phantom Lake hatched. As they sought her dead in the Phantom Lake. This was another heart wrenching , a horrifying case to them. It really had intimidated them too much. Afterward,Lagan beheads a man on far distance from the Jamboree for Cherie. Shortly after this case, clamours reaching to the sky raised by women. The screaming of the women portend invincible destruction right that time. It seemed for a while as the women are the harbinger of unfathomable bulldozing. Everyone was amazed at it. Finally they came across the man attacked by logan. Lagan was also along side him and started by saying he will kill everyone as Kent,Tad and Erric reached there. But as the artistic work draws to a tragic end when the three accompanions Tad, Erric and Kent behead the miscreant ,Logan. After all, this artistic work is completely fraught with intimidation. This work stretches out historical lessons, too. It's a great beach reading.
