Would have given the book 4 stars if I had better understood what happened to the necklace. It was a bit confusing for me and I don’t think it was entirely explained at a single point during the book.
This is what I think happened, but I had to re-read a few parts of the book to understand everything:
I guess Delvina wanted to get rid of the necklace, since the necklace had a bank account number on it and he was being investigated for fraud, so he gave it to his girlfriend. She pawned the necklace and I think Stanley Cramp went and reset the necklace with a fake gem. Lou Delvina came into the shop with a claim ticket for the necklace and Cramp was worried that Delvina would be able to recognize a fake a gem. Luckily for Cramp, Delvina took a phone call and had to leave but said he would be back for the necklace. When Annie Hart came into the store, Cramp used her to fake the robbery of the necklace. He shot himself in the foot and then threw the necklace and the fun into the crawl space under the back room of the pawn shop. Delvina heard that Annie stole the necklace and that’s how became involved looking for Annie.
My fav part of the book was definitely the plan to fake a wedding between Stephanie and Diesel to get Valerie and Albert married!
I have a hard time with the 'Between the Numbers' books. I like Stephanie Plum as a character - she is just real enough for you to think - Been there! and yet still gets in situations that are just not possible, which allows for that absurd humor to shine through in the writing. (I am pushing 40 and I have never really blown a car up - I'm just saying.)
That aside, I think this was still worth reading if you are a Plum fan. It's really not a commitment in time because you can whip through it in one long bath soak. I just pity the people who run out and pay full price for it. But I suppose you have got to support the author too - so maybe they are thinking that? It kills me to pay full price for a book, so I have a hard time wrapping my head around it.
Anyway - If you have never read an Evanovich I think you would be better of hitting "One for the Money" and the other number books before juming on the 'Between' books. Once you are addicted then you can jump into these little books and they won't turn you off.
Sometimes when you have a run of "meh." books you have to return to something you can trust. I know that Stephanie Plum will always be a pleasant and quick read. This book was perfect to get me out of my funk! The last few books I have read were meh at best! This was a light story with Diesel in and Stephanie doing a little good! It was just what I needed.
Not as good as some of the others, but enjoyed it as always a good laugh with these characters!
Mysterious men have a way of showing up in Stephanie Plum’s apartment. When the shadowy Diesel appears, he has a task for Stephanie-and he’s not taking no for an answer. Annie Hart is a “relationship expert” who is wanted for armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Stephanie needs to find her, fast. Diesel knows where she is. So they make a deal: he’ll help her get Annie if Stephanie plays matchmaker to several of Annie’s most difficult client
3.5 rounded to 4 because of the implants conversation As if the Joe Morelli / Ranger dilemma isn't enough, Diesel stops by in this novella, heavy sigh! Gotta love Grandma Mazur, she always makes me laugh.
They're not as good as the "proper" Plum books, but these extras with Diesel are still good fun and a nice read. This didn't take me long to read, but I feel better prepared for Plum 13 having read it!
Funny, sweet and heartwarming like a charm. I've had this book for ages, and I kept saving it for later, waiting to read the series in order - but that may as well never happen, as I have only read the first one so far, and there are lots of books already on my shelf that would claim their spot over a new one. It does feel way better than the first, though, so I will surely be on the lookout for more Plums :)
This book was okay. It was a quick read. I read it today and didn't start reading until 2 this afternoon. And that's with a napping break AND a break to watch the sobfest that is Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
I wouldn't recommend this book to someone who hasn't read any of the books in the series. It just barely explains events and characters from past books.
It also wasn't as funny as previous books in the series. I think that may be because the grandma wasn't featured a lot.
