This was the first time I have read anything by Dixie Cash - recommended by a friend - and let me just say .... I can't wait to read more!!! This book was so fun to read & I absolutely LOVED the main characters. The secondary characters only made the story better :) I bought the second book for my kindle before I even finished the first!! I can't wait to see what happens next - with this group of folks I'm guessing it could be anything!! haha! I would recommend this book (this series) to anyone who likes a mix of Romance, Mystery & Comedy!!

This was a surprisingly good read. I've read something else by Dixie Cash, but remember not caring for it very much. Once I really started reading this I really got into it and couldn't stop. I enjoyed all of the country aspects, all the country music references. It reminds me of all the books I wished I could have written. Yes it got a little ridiculous at times, but what the hey. It was a nice light read.
The book starts off with the murder of the wealthiest woman in town, Pearl Ann. Debbie Sue owns the one of the only beauty parlors in town and she's the ex-wife of the sheriff of the town. When the husband puts up a reward for the location of his wife's murderer, Debbie Sue decides she must be the one to solve the case.
There are several hilarious scenes with an old flame, Quint (though near the beginning of the book he is referred to as Clint which confused me at first) and a drag queen by the name of Eugene/Janine. However the end seemed to wrap up quite quickly, as though the author had to find a quick ending. Within the course of about twenty pages (maybe an exaggeration) she hooks back up with her ex husband, Buddy, and finds the killer. The killer, who turns out to have accidentally killed Pearl Ann. At the end there is a wrap up epilogue that quickly explains what happened to each character.
So it's a nice light read, but I will probably be trading it in.

What can I say-this book was cute and funny!! There were several places on that I literally laughed out loud. The book was reminiscent of a Stephanie Plum novel: light mystery, set in a small town, and quirky characters. There is an octogenarian in the book who I aspire to be like, if I am even lucky to get close to that age!

All in all, this was book that was very enjoyable. Highly recommended!

This was the first book by this author I have listened to. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the Deep South novels because they remind me of Mississippi, so I am more attuned to the characters a
than the plot, but this one was pretty good. Usually books in which you know the perp early on aren't very good, but this one was entertaining. The two detectives from a small town in Texas also are beauticians. They get involved in tracking down the murderer because Debbie Sue is up to her eyebrows in debt and is in danger of losing the beauty shop. This is definitely a cozy type mystery and is more about crazy situations and cross purposes.

I really liked this book and found it laugh out loud funny! All Debbie Sue Overstreet got out of her marriage to the sheriff of Salt Lick, TX, was a gas station that didn't pump! So she turned the property into the Styling Station, the best beauty parlor in town and if she didn't get rich, at leastshe learned all the local gossip. But she wasn't prepared for the news that the nastiest woman in town have been bumped off! Suddenly everyones a suspect and Debbie Sue decides to go after the reward...even if it means shes got to get close to Buddy, that lousy good looking exhusband of hers. Debbie Sues invesigation sends her on a wild ride. Who is the man named Eugene...and what's with his alter ego Janine? Where is the mysterious red haired woman? Why is Buddy trying to get yer back? And scariest of all, when did she begin to think he could be right?

These were really cute books, I think its a series of 5 now. The writing is funny, and paced well enough though a bit slow at times. The main characters are really cool women that you would love to know! This first book was like I said a bit slow for me but not so much that I didn't keep reading on to the next book or that I would never re-read it. Its a very light-hearted, fun book. In fact all the books in this series that I have read so far are that way.

This comic romance-mystery set in Texas features hair stylist Debbie Sue Overstreet who clashes with her ex husband and sheriff Buddy. Debbie Sue’s salon, the Styling Station, is in a converted gas station that she received as part of a divorce settlement. Southern fried, laugh out loud humor is served up in this debut novel.

I really wanted this to be funnier. Witty titles should have follow through in the text, and - while this book had some cute moments - it just wasn't laugh out loud funny. Disappointing, but only because I was looking for hysterical and didn't find it. Texans with attitudes, strong female characters & relationships, murder and misunderstandings, and one guy who was TSTL that hung around a little bit too long in my opinion. Not horrible, but not compelling enough to make me track down the rest of the series, unfortunately.

Listened and laughed. Not my normal read...just for fun. Salt Lick, Texas locals Debbie Sue and Sheriff Buddy Overstreet are still in love even though divorced. Pearl Ann has been brutally murdered and Debbie Sue wants the reward money.

I thought this was a fun read. It had some interesting scenerios and a happy ending for everyone. I enjoyed the characters and even laughed a few times. Euguene/Janine was by far the best character and had the best scene in the book! The murder and solving it was more of a secondary story not so much in the forefront of the plot.

A nice read if you're not looking for anything serious.

Fun little book. Though not my normal cup of tea, sometimes you just need to read some fluff.
