I found this new book by Dixie Cash humorous. The main character, Debbie Sue was quirky as were her friends. Each had their own story and drama. I did laugh more than once and appreciated the interesting messes Debbie Sue managed to get herself. While she is not Stephanie Plum, they must be related in some way!! I actually laughed out loud at the difficulties with dating Debbie Sue. She is more dangerous on a date that Stephanie Plum is with cars - and that is saying a lot. Do not read this book for deep meanings, thoughtful incites, and finely crafted mysteries. Enjoy the time with the outrageous characters in Dixie Cash's first novel.

A cute and quirky romance featuring Debbie Sue Overstreet a former rodeo queen turned beauty shop owner in the tiny town of Salt Lick, somewhere in West Texas.

Debbie Sue is trying to earn the $50,000 reward offered for finding the murderer of one of the nastiest women in town. This leads her to working closely with her ex-husband (and still love of her life) sheriff Buddy Overstreet.

There's not really much more to say about the plot, as this book is brain candy, not very deep or thought provoking, but fun to read. A welcome break in the middle of Tess of the D'Urbervilles.

Since I was having a hard time immediately getting into Citizen Girl I decided to pick another book to start last night as well. Its almost finished, and I have to say, for a "romantic, suspense" book, its kinda of a cool read.

The strongest, sexiest, and sassiest debut contemporary romance we've seen since Rachel Gibson! The quality of Dixie's writing combined with the pure romance of the story guarantees that Avon Romance has just acquired a new star.

Debbie Sue Overstreet is still the best-looking gal in Saltlick, TX-and her ex-husband Buddy is still the best-looking sheriff. Thanks to a thriving gossip mill (also known as Debbie's hair salon), there isn't a thing in Saltlick that she doesn't know about before anyone else. That is, until somebody offs snooty Pearl Ann Carruthers. With Buddy on the case, the woman who has to know everything is stumped by not just one, but two questions: first, who killed Pearl Ann and why, and second, how on earth did she ever let Buddy Overstreet get away? Lucky for Saltlick and Buddy both, she means to find out the answers, no matter what it takes!

The Characterization of the characters in the story "Since you're leaving anyway, Take out the Trash" , Debbie Sue waas considered a Failure. "She was twenty-eight years old and had been a failure at everything she tried. Marrying, Mothering, Rodeoing, and now, Beauty shopping."
James Russell is Beautiful. "James Russell Overstreet, Jr., the most beautiful man in Texas."
C.J. is always late. " Did y'all here, did y'all hear? We're ahead of you C.J. We already know about Pearl Ann."
Pearl Ann is obnoxious and a showoff. " Pearl Ann was obnoxious at times. well, to be honest, she was obnoxious damn near all the time." " she never missed a chance to let everybody know her clothes came from Neiman-Marcus or that her husband bought her a new Cadillac every year."
Edwina Perkins is Loyal. " Edwina had been a hairdresser in salt lick for over twenty years." " Edwina, Debbie Sue's only employee and one of her two best friends in the whole wide world."

Someone left this book in my Little Free Library. It was Friday night, and I needed something light to read. The title hooked me; how could it not? The book delivered on its promise of a breezy read and made me smile. That's worth something. I'm putting it back out in the library for another reader in the neighborhood to discover.

I book marked this one based on a friend's booklist - who would'nt want to read a book with a title like that? That being said, be warned that the title has nothing to do with the story. This is also supposed to be a book in the 'domestic equalizers' series - not quite sure what that means.

Anyway, the book by Dixie Cash (actually an author duo) is filled with more than its fair share of red blooded Texan women who know their minds and are not afraid to speak it. While I don't really know what I was expecting, it certainly wasn't a combination of detection, romance and extremely honest speak that was quite funny at times.

Would I pick up another one by these authors - probably not. There wasn't enough to make me want to go back and read another one.

It was cute, but I got tired REALLY quickly of Buddy and Debbi Sue fawning over each other every time they walked away. How he didn't think she loved him anymore and she didn't think he loved her anymore...once or twice was one thing but EVERY time they interact. GAG! Oh well, at least it was a nice light fluffy read.

Changed my day!

Woke up in a grouchy mood. Didn't feel like cleaning. Searched my books and was taken by the title, which made me laugh. Sat down to see if I'd like to read it and was caught up in the story and spent the day reading and laughing! The many situations were were comical, which was just what I needed! Need a mood changer? This one will do it!

I don't know what it is about Texas. I just don't generally like books set in Texas. Maybe I don't get the mentality. And therein lies my problem with this book. Debbie Sue Overstreet owns a beauty salon in a one horse town in West Texas. Her ex-husband Buddy is the town sheriff. Life has been limping along just fine until the richest (and loosest married) woman in town turns up murdered. The rest of the book is filled with the couple and their new love interests trying to find out where they fit in each other's lives and finding a murderer. Some funny moments, but none of them true laugh out loud moments.

If you like mysteries, sassy ladies and Western fiction, this is the series for you. I had remembered seeing it a bookstore years ago and thought it sounded good, so I finally went out and got a copy. I'm so glad I did. Full review here: http://tahleenreads.blogspot.com/2012...
