El final de “La trilogía de New York”no pudo ser menos. Estoy gratamente sorprendido con todo lo que estas cortas novelas me han dado, pero vengo a hablar de esta en concreto. La habitación cerrada es la historia de un hombre, un hombre que tuvo un mejor amigo, éste mejor amigo ha muerto, la mujer le ha dicho que tiene unos papeles que su marido le ha dejado, cuando descubre que papeles son, la historia comienza a viajar por los ya reconocibles recursos que utiliza Auster para unir la historia del libro con una realidad muy curiosa. Y lo mejor son esas páginas finales, bueno, creo que es más de la mitad de este tomo, me sorprendió mucho, estoy feliz de haberme dado la oportunidad de leer a este hombre.

اتاق دربسته سومین قسمت از معروفترین اثر "پل استر" یعنی "سه گانه نیویورک" است.کتاب ماهیت معمایی دارد و بیشتر حول شخصیت دو نفر است. "فنشاو" که شخصیتی بسیار پیچیده و مرموز دارد و در ابتدای کتاب می خوانیم که ناپدید شده است و از او چند داستان و شعر و نمایشنامه به جا مانده و راوی داستان که دوست قدیمی "فنشاو" است و با وجود چندین سال عدم ارتباط طبق وصیتش مامور می شود تا دست نوشته های او را به چاپ برساند. در ابتدای کتاب این حس را پیدا کردم که با یک کتاب کاراگاهی سر و کار دارم اما کم کم جستجوهای راوی برای پیدا کردن "فنشاو" به جستجو برای شناخت هویتش که به این دوست قدیمی گره خورده بود تبدیل شد.و در آخراینکه برای داشتن تصویر بهتری از دنیای "استر" حتما باید سراغ دو کتاب قبلی "سه گانه نیویورک" یعنی "شهر شیشه ای" و "ارواح" برم

“The Locked Room” is the third volume of Paul Auster’s “The New York Trilogy.” I read the first two, “City of Glass” (5/5) and “Ghosts” (2/5), last year.

This novel is about an unnamed narrator, a writer, who’s in search of Fanshawe, his childhood bestfriend who has disappeared. In the process he marries Fanshawe’s wife, adopts Fanshawe’s child, publishes Fanshawe’s bulk of writings—effectively filling the void Fanshawe has left in the world. (I’m not going to tell you what he does with Fanshawe’s mother.) But does he find Fanshawe? Is Fanshawe really gone? Why has Fanshawe disappeared in the first place?

Like the earlier installments of this trilogy, “The Locked Room” follows a hard-boiled detective story, but it deconstructs a lot of the tropes of the tradition. Unlike Hammett’s Sam Spade or Chandler’s Philip Marlowe who get involved in action-packed, often violent adventures, Auster’s detectives just sit and read and write and philosophize on the nature of identity and language. Like the earlier installments too, this book alludes heavily to other books. Central to this book is “Moby-Dick,” just as “Don Quixote” and “Walden” are central to “City of Glass” and “Ghosts” respectively. What I really like about this book is that, like “City of Glass,” it offers a lot of stories within the overarching story, stories that serve like miniatures of the whole novel, very much like fractals.

As a postmodern work, this book is metafictional. In the book our narrator attempts to write a biography of Fanshawe but fails, but towards the end the narrator explains that due to this failure, and for him to fully make sense of the events surrounding Fanshawe’s disappearance, he has written the book we’re reading right now (yes, “The Locked Room”)—as well as two earlier books, “City of Glass” and “Ghosts.” In “The Locked Room” there are also references to the characters in “City of Glass,” making you think that this is a direct sequel to the latter, but not quite: the connection seems so superficial, concerns only a couple of the exact same names, but in this book names and words matter so much. This constant blurring of the line between truth and fiction is one of the recurring themes throughout the trilogy.

Quick note on the ratings: when I read ��City of Glass” it really felt so new to me, and hence the 5/5 rating. “Ghosts” got 2/5 because I felt it was too short, and it just didn’t have that impact “City of Glass” had on me. I would have given “The Locked Room” 5/5 if it weren’t for the standard set by “City of Glass.”

me termino interesando pero sigo sin entender que se supone que es

A SOLID 4. Este es, sin lugar a dudas, mi fav de la trilogía. La historia es mucho más completa y compleja, y MUY bien desarrollada. Sigue manteniendo estos tintes policiales y de suspenso, al parecer característico de Auster, pero sin llegar a ser algo agotador de leer. Sin embargo, EL FINAL, dios. Sin entrar mucho en detalles, The Locked Room se transforma en esta última pieza de metanarrativa dentro de la trilogía y termina implicando que las dos novelas anteriores fueron escritas por el protagonista de esta y MUCHAS otras cosas más que no llegué a comprender.
Mi honesta reacción: LA VERDAD NO SÉ, NO ENTIENDO LA METAFICCIÓN.

"همه دوست دارند قصه برایشان تعریف کنند و همانطور به این قصه‌ها گوش می‌دهیم که وقتی کودک بودیم چنین می‌کردیم. آن داستان حقیقی را که پشت کلمه‌ها پنهان شده تصور می‌کنیم و برای اینکه چنین کنیم خود را به جای شخصی که داستان راجع به اوست می‌گذاریم و وانمود می‌کنیم که می‌توانیم او را درک کنیم چون قادر به فهم خود هستیم. این فریبی بیش نیست. شاید وجودمان فقط برای خودمان قابل درک باشد و گاهی حتی بازتاب‌هایی از خودِ واقعی خویش را درک کنیم، اما سر آخر می‌فهمیم که هرگز نمی‌توانیم مطمئن باشیم و همانطور که زندگی می‌کنیم وجودمان بیش از پیش برایمان گنگ می‌نماید و بیشتر و بیشتر متوجه عدم هماهنگی خود می‌شویم. هیچکس نمی‌تواند از مرز وجود کسی به درونش نفوذ کند – به این دلیل ساده که هیچکس نمی‌تواند به وجود خود نیز پی ببرد."

الغرفة الموصدة – بول أوستر

هي ثالث روايات ثلاثية نيويورك وقد صدرت لأول مرة عام 1986 ومن الجدير بالذكر، أن نعلم بأن بان الروايات قد نشرت للمرة الأولى فرادى قبل أن يتم جمعها وإعادة نشرها معاً في كتاب واحد تحت مسمى "ثلاثية نيويورك" عام 1987.

تتحدث هذه الرواية عن حكاية الراوي مع صديقه الحميم فانشو والذي انقطعت أخباره عنه لسنوات طوال قبل أن تتواصل معه صوفي زوجة فانشو لتخبره بانقطاع أخبار صديقه تماماً.. وفوق هذا أنه ترك إرثاً أدبياً ينتظر منه القراءة وتقرير المصير..

وقد يكون الأمر سهلاً لو أنه اقتصر فقط على تقييم هذه الأعمال الأدبية التي خلفها فانشو.. والتقرير فيما إذا كانت تستحق النشر أم لا.. فبعد أن حققت هذه الأعمال نجاحاً جيداً، طلبت دار النشر من الراوي -والذي لا يكشف لنا عن اسمه طوال الرواية- كتابة سيرة حياة الكاتب فانشو. وكما هو الحال مع الروايتين الأولى والثانية، من هنا تبدأ المشكلة.

كان الراوي قد دخل في علاقة مع صوفي –كما هو متوقع- ثم طلب منها الزواج وتبني ابنها من فانشو.. إلا أن مسألة كتابة سيرة حياة فانشو.. تدخل لديه مدخلاً هوسي.. فقد كان أغلب ظن الجميع بأن فانشو قد مات حتماً.. خاصة، بأن صوفي كانت قد وظفت تحرياً خاصاً للبحث عنه.. إلا أن كل محاولات ذلك التحري باءت بالفشل.. مما أوحى للجميع بأنه ميت. وفجأة، تصل رسالة من فانشو إلى الراوي.. تؤكد له على أنه حي يرزق.. وكانت هذه الحقيقة هي ما جعل مهمة كتابة سيرة حياة فانشو تنحى على النحو الذي آلت إليه.

يتتبع الراوي حياة فانشو موحياً للجميع بأن يأخذ كتابة سيرة حياته بشكل جاد، بينما في واقع الحال، هو يبحث لأسبابه الخاصة. ذلك الهوس الذي رأيناه في الروايتين الأولى والثانية، جعل الراوي يصارح والدة فانشو وجارته السابقة بعزمه أن يكتب سيرة حياة ولدها لتفتح له منزلها وتحدثه عن حياة ابنها.. وجعلته أيضاً، يسافر إلى فرنسا في محاولة للإطلاع على حياة فانشو التي قضى سنيناً منها في فرنسا.. حيث عمل على ترجمة بعض الأدب الفرنسي –كما فعل الكاتب للمناسبة-

ما من تفسير معين لسلوك فانشو.. ولهذا السبب بالتحديد يرسل فانشو رسالة ثانية للراوي طالباً منه هذه المرة أن يتحدثا.. فهو يرغب أن يخبره بأمر مهم.. ويحدث اللقاء ليجد الراوي فانشو وقد كتب له كل شيء في كراسة حمراء.. مشابهة لتلك التي جيء على ذكرها في الرواية الأولى.. وطلب فانشو من الراوي أن يقرأها.. وحقيقة، أجد النهاية منطقية للغاية. ولو كنتُ مكان الراوي لربما فعلت الأمر ذاته.

هذه الرواية هي أهم ما جاء في الثلاثية.. بل إنها هي ما يجعل قراءة الثلاثية كاملة أمراً يستحق العناء. على أي حال، لا أظن بأن هذه ستكون آخر تجربة لي مع بول أوستر.

Is it me or there was little of interest in this book or the other two preceding books! The search for the identity was somehow interesting but that was it! I didn't enjoy reading it, unfortunately, and I expected a better ending. However, the author(the narrator) was very well aware of his(or human's in general) inner thoughts or feelings, I was astonished by some of the reactions and intentions he mentions.

Cada vez que uno lee algo de Paul Auster descubre que su intención siempre será generar un sin sabor en sus historias, que aparentemente quedan inconclusas pero que en realidad cada final queda abierto a lo que el lector quiera interpretar, a que seamos nosotros mismos quienes le demos el desenlace que queramos a cada libro, creo fielmente que todas absolutamente todas las obras de Auster se conectan entre sí. No tiene pierde este escritor cuando logras entender qué es lo que pretende.
