اما شرح حال تو شاید ماده خامی باشد برای یک اثرهنری در آینده برای تصویری آتی از عصری بی قانون که سپری شده باشد.اوه،وقتی کشمکش خشمگینانه زمانه سپری شود و آینده فرا رسد؛آنگاه هنرمند آینده شکلهای زیبا برای ترسیم هرج و مرج و بی قانونی گذشته کشف خواهد کرد.آن موقع شرح حالهایی نظیر نوشته تو اگر صادقانه باشند به کار خواهند آمد و به رغم آشفتگی و اتفاقی بودنشان به ماده خام تبدیل خواهند شد...چنین نوشته هایی به هر حال نشانه های وفادارانه ای در خود دارند که از روی آنها می توان حدس زد که در این زمانه دشوار چه چیزهایی ممکن است در قلب یک جوان خام نهفته باشد چنین شناختی اصلا بی ارزش نیست زیرا از جوانهای خام است که نسلها شکل می گیرند.

جوان خام رمانی از نویسندهٔ روس فیودور داستایفسکی است که در سال ۱۸۷۵ منتشر شد.رمانی روانشناسانه که به واکنشهای روانی انسانها در برابر یکدیگر می پردازد.داستان این رمان درباره جوان ۱۹ ساله‌ای به نام آرکادی دالگورکی است. او راوی داستان است و قصد دارد روابطش را با جامعه و پدرش بیان کند. دالگورکی که پسری نامشروع است به معنای واقعی کلمه یک جوان خام است و خودش نیز به خوبی از این موضوع آگاه است. می‌توان او را فردی بی‌هویت دانست که می‌خواهد با بیان داستان زندگی و روابطش، خود را پیدا کند.داستایفسکی در مورد این رمان می گوید که در رمان جوان خام روحی معصوم در نظرم بود که احتمال وحشتناک تباه شدن را حس کرده بود و به «تصادفی بودن» و بی اهمیت بودن خود نفرت می ورزید. نفرتش از روح هنوز پاکی بر می خاست که آگاهانه شرارت را در اندیشه هایش نگه می داشت و در قلبش می پروراند و در رویاهای نا آرام و پنهانی اما گستاخانه اش عذاب می کشید. بالطبع همه چیز را به قدرتش و منطقش و حتی مهمتر به خداوند مربوط می کرد. اینها همه از «نارسی» و «خامی» جامعه بر میخیزند.ادوارد هلت کار در مورد این رمان می گوید که هیچ رمانی از هیچ نویسنده ای نمی توان یافت که حتی پس از چهارپنج بار خواندن به دست دادن شرحی خلاصه و منسجم از آن تا این حد نامقدور باشد و آنچه در این رمان جالب است طرح آن نیست بلکه بررسی روانشناختی شخصیتهاست.

Really enjoyed this book. For me, it was a perfect novel. Both plot-driven and character-driven. So many things happen in this book but, every single character is drawn with immense depth and they are unforgettable too.
The writing is pure Gold which is expected because it's the God of Gods Dostoyevsky's book but, I was surprised to see how modern it feels. Of course, it has some old-fashioned writings like people always talk to each other like they are in a play in front of an audience or they often start to blast atomic bombs of philosophical opinions about everything and everyone. It was expected too I guess.
But, imagine living in that old Russia, and instead of TV series, you get this. Ahhhh! I would've been in Heaven. And this book makes you feel like that. Dostoyevsky tells the stories of poor, thieves, middle-class, and Rich people in such beautiful details that literally make the characters alive and realistic. Yes! This book feels very realistic!
Like a film or a TV series. In the beginning, it was said that this book was written as a series. And, you can definitely feel that. There are a lot of subplots and little stories thrown here and there which are freaking gorgeous btw. But, the main plot is very interesting and entertaining as well.
The main character 'Arkady Dolgoruky' is one of the most relatable characters ever. And the book mainly focuses on him. He is the protagonist and it was told in the first person, so like he is the hero. But, is he?? I don't think so. The book is called 'The Adolescent' for a reason. He is a high school (boarding school) student suddenly thrown into the whirlpool of real-life and most importantly into family life. And I, who has a similar experience can fully understand his situation.
Although he has a really unique life, as the book progresses it becomes very familiar to me, or maybe to a lot of people. Family can be complicated, so are the neighbours and our friends. And it can take a long time to figure things out. Losing your dear ones hurts but, to see your enemy suffer pleases you. Is that philosophy??
Dostoevsky was a philosopher tho, so this book can be an eye-opener for some. But, I am a film-alcoholic, so I was fascinated by the expert way he portrays old Russia. The influence of both European and Asian lifestyle is just a pleasure to experience. It's very very cinematic. I love when the characters talk in bars... on the open streets in the snow, at night... the lonely walks in the dark, gloomy alleyways... the cozy but awkward small talks with the family, with friends... the funny moments where friends make you feel ashamed in front of people... the men and women walking in bygone era dresses... the interior designs... The unpredictable progress of the story and the ending. Ahhh! somebody make a film out of this for me.
In short, I really love this book. 5/5

For many, The Adolescent fell short of the brilliance Dostoevsky displayed in other novels. I think of this novel as a slightly weak link in the chain of his character types. Dostoevsky felt it necessary to reveal the fatum (as Arkady puts it) of the Russian youth of the late 19th century. Until this novel, he had hinted at the fallibility of the inexperience, presumptuousness and even bitterness in the younger generation. In Demons, nihilists are the easily-swayed boys who reject the frying pan of their fathers' romantic liberalism, and dive into the fire of atheism and moral anarchy. In The Adolescent, Dostoevsky singles out an illegitimate student from an "accidental" family, revealing his corruption and redemption through first-person narration. My favorite thing about this novel is the narration – after a few chapters it becomes easy to tell when he's exaggerating or simply lying.

He also reintroduces the previous generation through Versilov, his most serious and complete type of the Russian romantic liberal of the 1840s. The father/son interaction is opposed by their development throughout the novel – Versilov goes from wisdom to madness, while Arkady goes from madness to wisdom. This novel sees a cast of nearly every character type Dostoevsky has developed. The Old Prince and Sofya Andreevna are both similar to Prince Myshkin, and Katerina Nikolaevna and Liza are both similar to Nastasya Philippovna, from Idiot. Tatiana Pavlovna is similar to Varvara Petrovna from Demons. There are more than one "underground" types in the novel (the dadais), and even Arkady vacillates into this type from time to time.

Arkady's "idea" of becoming as rich as a Rothschild through miserly habits (of which the reader knows he's incapable) offers a direct parallel to his father's "idea" and his sudden personality split. Versilov comes to the foreground of the novel in the last chapters, as he is torn between two women. Arkady finally stops showing off and becomes a sedate and marginal character. Ultimately, Arkady's Rothschild idea represents a view of capitalism that emerged in the youth of that time, and Dostoevsky exposes as mere materialism and greed. Overall, I feel that this novel was perhaps Dostoevsky's most difficult, as this particular type was almost beyond his understanding.

First sentence: Unable to restrain myself, I have sat down to record this history of my first steps on life's career, though I could have done as well without it. One thing I know for certain: never again will I sit down to write my autobiography, even if I live to be a hundred. You have to be all too basely in love with yourself to write about yourself without shame. My only excuse is that I'm not writing for the same reason everyone else writes, that is, for the sake of the reader's praises.

Premise/plot: Written in the first person, The Adolescent is the 'notes' of Arkady Makarovich Dolgoruky. He has recently come St. Petersburg to see his family. His upbringing was unhappy and strange. He is illegitimate. His mother still married to another man, his legal father. His father is Andrei Petrovich Versilov. He was raised not by his mother--who ran off with Versilov, having another child with him, Liza--and not even by his legal father. His upbringing was scattered--raised by people here and there, and never with love or tenderness. To say he was angry and bitter would be an understatement. His parents are strangers to him as is his sister, as are his half siblings, Versilov's legitimate children. But he's answering a summons to come. His family is under great stress when the book begins. His father, his sister, and his half-sister are all in the middle of a passionate, dramatic, mysterious, scandalous scenario. Readers learn a little here, a little there. Nothing direct and straightforward. Everything having to be pieced together one puzzle piece at a time. Add in the fact that the narrator is on an emotional roller coaster and in the midst of searching for the meaning of life and that sums up the chaotic disorder that is this book. But keep in mind this is intended.

My thoughts: I personally prefer the Karamazov Brothers to this one. I am not a big fan of this first person narrative style. When the narrator is mentally and emotionally a mess, it reads like a crazy mess of a book with no real purpose.
But it was intentional.

Dolgoruky may have not been a 'literary man' writing for a 'literary marketplace' but he is the creation of Fyodor Dostoevsky. One theme in this one is that no man is an island; no one escapes the influence of others. Dolgoruky may think he's driven by one simple IDEA, but he's bound to his family and friends, even to his frenemies. It is a lot harder to live--and die perhaps--for one idea than this young man realizes. Human nature is complex, and the human heart is depraved. There isn't a saint to be found within the pages of The Adolescent. That is not a bad thing.

Can you really truly know someone, love someone, understand someone, trust someone. Dolgoruky doesn't even know himself, understand his own heart and mind so how can he really make good decisions and treat others kindly?

Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Adolescent was first published in Russia with the literally translated title of A Raw Youth in 1875, and is presented in Dora O'Brien's new translation by Alma Books. O'Brien has previously - and seamlessly - rendered many works of Russian literature into English, by the likes of Tolstoy and Turgenev. Dostoevsky feels like the feather in an already well-decorated cap. With regard to Dostoevsky's canon, The Adolescent is one of his later works, published just five years before The Brothers Karamazov.

Our protagonist is Arkady Dolroguky, a nineteen-year-old, and the illegitimate son of a landowner and a maid. The setting is the Russia of the 1870s, 'a nation still tethered to its old systems and values but shaken up by the new ideological currents of socialism and nihilism'. (NB. I could happily write an entire essay linking the tumult of modernity and the break-up of traditional Russia in the novel). As is the case with all of Dostoevsky's work, politics are ever-present, but never dull or overdone; indeed, in The Adolescent, the same pattern has been followed, and the historical and modern world unfold majestically along with Arkady's own coming of age story. Similarly, as often happens with documents of Russian life in novel form, an incredible amount of themes have been explored here, from capitalism and its evils, to all-consuming loves, and familial relationships.

The beginning intrigues: 'Unable to hold back, I've sat down to record the story of my first steps on life's path, when I could actually get by without doing so'. Arkady's first person narrative perspective is both engaging and enlightening; one gets a marvellous view of the protagonist - his hopes, his fears, and his state of mind throughout. The reasoning which he gives for fashioning his autobiography is thorough, and not quite what one might expect. Arkady is a clear and often complex character, struggling to come to terms with his life and his place within the world.

The style of the prose is rendered in what is almost a colloquial fashion; the entirety feels very fresh, perhaps due to its new translation. Regardless, O'Brien has rendered the whole marvellously. In no place is the prose stilted or clumsy; there is very little repetition, and a wonderful fluency to the whole. The Adolescent has been well structured too; the shorter sections inside longer chapters help to nicely break up the reading experience.

It is worth mentioning that The Adolescent begins in much the same way as Alma's other publications, with a series of sketches and photographs about the author and his circle, and a useful list of the extensive cast of characters. The reading experience here is an incredibly pleasant one, and at no point did I feel daunted by the length (five hundred plus pages) of the novel. As a parting thought, I shall leave you with what Albert Camus wrote: 'The real nineteenth-century prophet was Dostoevsky, not Karl Marx'.

Der Unbekannteste der großen Dostojewski-Romane ist eine gelungene Mischung aus guter Unterhaltung, Spannung, verwirrender Handlung und großen Themen. Es ist ein Entwicklungsroman, die „Coming-of-Age-Geschichte“ des Arkadij Makarowitsch Dolgorukij, dessen rechtlicher Vater ein Gesindeknecht, dessen biologischer Vater Werssilow jedoch von adliger Abstammung ist. Arkadij wächst weder bei dem einen noch dem anderen auf, sein adliger Vater finanziert seine „gute Erziehung“, aber der Sohn leidet unter dem Spott der Mitschüler über seine familiäre Situation. Der Roman beginnt mit dem Ende der Schulzeit, dem Umzug nach Sankt Petersburg zu Werssilow, seiner Mutter und seine Schwester. Für Arkadij, der sich in der Schulzeit oft einsam und verloren fühlte, beginne viele neue Erfahrungen. Er lernt seine „Patch-Work-Familie“ kennen, möchte unbedingt seinen Vater mögen und hat ständig Angst, sich falsch zu verhalten, nicht ernst genommen zu werden. Der spätpubertierende Sohn ist großartig dargestellt. Mitunter ist er nervtötend, aber gleichzeitig hat man Mitleid mit Arkadij, der sich so schwer zurechtfindet.

Orientierung in einer zerfallenden Familie und einer Welt der Umbrüche, Suche nach sinnvollen Lebenszielen, Überblick in der umgebenden Unordnung – das sind aus meiner Sicht die großen Themen des Buches.
Diese lassen sich nicht leicht herausfinden, irgendwo las ich den Begriff „literarisches Wimmelbild“. Wahrlich ein Buch, bei dem man mit jedem Lesen andere Details entdecken könnte. Für mich war es die Erstlektüre, bei der ich mich auf das gewaltige Durcheinander konzentrierte, um den Überblick nicht zu verlieren, aber ich könnte mir gut vorstellen, dass sich ein wiederholtes Lesen lohnen könnte.

Denn viele kleine Gespräche am Rande sind ein Spielgelbild der damaligen russischen Gesellschaft, in der der Adel an Bedeutung verlor und sich eine Art Raubtierkapitalismus entwickelt. Geld spielt eine wichtige Rolle, für nahezu jede Figur ist dies ein bedeutendes Thema, jeder will auf seine Art zu Geld kommen. Man versucht es mit Prozessieren um Erbschaften, mit absoluter Sparsam- und Enthaltsamkeit (Arkadij), mit Glücksspiel, mit gefälschten Aktien, mit Erpressung oder geschickter Heirat.

Ebenso geht es, wie in den anderen Dostojewski-Romanen, um die Einordnung Russlands in der Welt. Die Gesellschaft ist gespalten in die westlich orientierten „Europäer“ und die eher nationalistischen Slawophilen. Revolutionäre Strömungen drohen in terroristische Bahnen zu geraten. Die tiefgläubigen, integren Personen sterben aus. Es ist eine Zeit des Umbruchs, des Chaos. Chaos wie in Arkadijs Gefühlswelt, jedoch mit deutlicher Konzentration auf letztere. Aber er grüne Junge wird erwachsener, er lernt sich zurechtzufinden und man kann am Schluss zuversichtlich sein, dass er seinen Weg im Leben finden wird.

Wer Dostojewski mag, wird auch dieses Buch mögen. Es gibt keinen ersichtlichen Grund, dass es weniger gelesen wird als andere. Von mir ist es eine Empfehlung.

Το πρώτο βιβλίο της χρονιάς ολοκληρώθηκε και νιώθω μπερδεμένη. Αγαπώ πολύ τη γραφή του Ντοστο. Στα έργα του υπάρχουν πάντα βιογραφικά στοιχεία, χιούμορ κ ειρωνική χροιά.
Η φιλοσοφία είναι διάχυτη σε όλο το βιβλίο και τα θέματα που αναλύει απασχολούν τον αναγνώστη από καταβολής κόσμου. Όλα αυτά συνηγορούν στο γεγονός πως πρόκειται για ένα διαχρονικό έργο.

Όσον αφορά στην πλοκή δυσκολεύτηκα με τα ονόματα και σε κάποια σημεία μου προκλήθηκε σύγχυση σχετικά με την ιστορία. Το κακό όταν δε διαβάζεις καθημερινά ένα τέτοιο βιβλίο λόγω εορτών. Δολοπλοκίες, ψέματα, μιση, πάθη και στον αντίποδα ειλικρινείς συζητήσεις, ξηγημένες συμπεριφορές, εμπιστοσύνη. Η απιστία και η κοροϊδία συνυφαίνουν ένα γαϊτανάκι εξελίξεων και γεγονότων.

Ο ήρωας καυτηριάζει την αριστοκρατία. Ειδικά στις πρώτες σελίδες πολύ τον χάρηκα αφού είναι έκδηλη η ειρωνεία του κ ο εμπαιγμός του στους άριστους. Δυστυχώς ο ρόλος αυτός στη συνέχεια εναλλάσσεται.
Υπάρχουν σκαμπανεβάσματα στην πλοκή. Η αδρεναλίνη ανεβαίνει καθώς βλέπουμε τα στοιχεία του φόνου κ της αυτοκτονίας που αποτελούν λύτρωση για τους ήρωες προκειμένου να εξυπηρετήσουν τους σκοπούς τους στην ιστορία.

Ένα ανάγνωσμα που φυσικά απαιτεί υπομονή κ θα πρότεινα να διαβαστεί. Σίγουρα όμως δεν μπορεί να συγκριθεί με τα υπόλοιπα του Ντοστο.

Καλή αναγνωστική χρονιά σε όλους!

تتجلى عبقرية دوستفيسكي في (المراهق) بجزئيه في أن صياغة هذه المذكرات جاءت وكأنها على لسان مراهق لم يبلغ العشرين بعد، بدون أي تعقيد صياغي أو أسلوبي. وبرأيي هذا ما يجعل الكاتب كاتباً حقيقياً مثلما يجعل الممثل ممثلاً حقيقياً. أن تُترك الذات تتوارى بعيداً وتُلبس الشخصية بكل أبعادها. الكتاب مثال جيد للتربية الذاتية للنفس.
