It was exciting, quick-moving, adventure packed, and full of dragons.

I’m not sure how well it would work just as a fantasy novel, for kids unfamiliar with the Dragonology world. I think they would enjoy it, but not as much as Amber did. You really have to be a dragon lover to like it, I think. And the dragons can be powerful, intelligent, dangerous, but the SASD’s mission is to protect them, not exploit them, which goes along with Amber’s feelings quite well.

I read the book for the first time when I was 10 and I thought it was great. Now, at almost 23, I wanted to read it again. Oh god, what have I done? It's incredibly boring at times, the misogynistic comments from one of the students piss me off (and the student is 13 at the most) and I remember the whole thing with the dragons as much more exciting and well thought out. I'm so glad I only have the first book at home otherwise the other parts would have flown out my window.

The book is very beginner-friendly and, as I said, my 10-year-old self really liked this book. My now adult self finds it very critical and I have the feeling that it conveys wrong values.

The book was good, bus I would rather recommend it to people around the 10 or younger

This would've gotten four stars had it not put such a darn emphasis on evolution. Someone smart enough to find and research dragons would know that macro-evolution isn't real. Dr. Drake would never have his students reading Darwin for study.
Other than that, I liked the story. First big book (as in, 200+ pages and just for fun and some big words) my brother has read.

A teraz k samotnému príbehu. Páčilo sa mi to. Draky sú neskutočné stvorenia, o ktorých je radosť čítať a celkovo tá drakológia a poslanie SASD bola absolútne skvelá myšlienka. Daniel a Beatrice boli skvelí, Alexandra s Ignatiusom takisto absolútne parádna zmes záporákov. Hrozne sa teším na dvojku.

It was a bit lose at the end but I enjoyed the book. Daniel Cook I bet, will become a great Dragonologist in the time to come. He was feeling nervous all the time because he didn't know what to do at times and did only what he thought he had to do. He also freaked out over some trivial things. I hope to see him grow in the future.

Let me just start by saying I love dragons and fantasy. Needless to say, I began this book with the mindset that I would really enjoy it, and I did. Steer did not disappoint. As usual, I did my read 2 chapters before bed-time and see how bad you want to keep going or stop. Surprisingly, after the prologue & chapter 1, I really did want to continue! Who was that lady? What was in the crate? What's going on?

Sneaking in chapter after chapter, I was simply thrilled by this book! Daniel & Beatrice are sent to live with one of their parents friends, Dr. Drake who is at first glance obsessed with dragons. He owns a dragon memorabilia shop and for some strange reason, something is flying around in a room blowing steam out of its nostrils....but dragons aren't real! Or are they?

This book takes us on a journey of education, problem solving and adventure. I was able to learn along with Beatrice & Daniel. I figured out all the little questions asked when presented with a problem. I wanted to help save the dragons and stop Ignatius Crook! ...with a last name like Crook, its no wonder that he's evil.

This book, although slightly predictable is still fun for young dragon apprentices. I enjoyed it and can't wait to see if they tie up the loose ends in Volume 2. With a fun cast of characters and suspense, Steer really presented an adventure of Dragon-sized proportions...European like Scorcher, not Knucker like Weasel. =)

This book was...ok. I think it accomplished what it was aiming to do, so for that I give it props. Steer’s style is reminiscent of a lesser Lemony Snicket, and the book clearly came out of the interactive “field guide” books. It’s geared towards a younger audience, and I think it’s a fun read for that specific age group.
