This is the fourth time I've read a story where dragons are involved. The first one was from Harry Potter, next was Septimus Heap, next was The Hobbit, and this Dragonology Chronicles. This book gave sense of what it feels like when Dr. Ernest Drake teaches about Dragonology. And this also gave me a closer encounter on dragons. The field work reminds me of of my Systematic Botany class during the first semester of my 3rd year in college, I had to list down in every diagnostic features/morphology of every organism I was assigned to describe. But honestly, dragonology is more interesting than Botany, but I think they have the same level of labor difficulty when it comes to doing the requirements. I've read Dragonology (the reference book) a year ago and it is very interesting. The adventures in Dragonology Chronicles is really exciting (and sometimes funny) that it made me want to ride and study dragons.

How would you react if you found out that there are real, live dragons living amongst us? And not only that, but your parents are actually dragonologists (scientists who study dragons) and are part of the Secret and Ancient Society of Dragonologists (S.A.S.D.)?!

Set in a fictional Victorian Age England, join Daniel and Beatrice Cook as they spend their vacation at a very special summer school run by their parent's long time friend and mentor, Dr. Ernest Drake. They are soon introduced into the secret study of dragons called Dragonology and they soon find themselves caught in a race against time.

They have have to use all their wits and their newly acquired knowledge of Dragonology to help Dr. Drake thwart the corrupt Dragonologist Ignatius Crook and keep him from acquiring the Dragon's Eye jewel.

Dugald Steer has painted a decent enough picture of Victorian Age England, so much so, that the younger readers will feel as if they have been transported to that era but still remain relatable and touches up on some topics such as the importance of family (the children can't wait to spend time with their parents who have not been physically present for 4 years), the battle of the sexes (Beatrice set up a girls only club called Quicker Than Boys[Q.T.B.] after Billy constantly mentions that girls are slow witted) and the importance of preserving ALL life (Dr. Drake risks his own life to save an enemy, who moments earlier tried to kill him), just to name a few.

This book is chock-full of references to dragons and contains a map indicating where the protagonists ventured. It also contains illustrations by Douglas Carrel which help give the reader an idea of what what some of the characters look like and what is going on in the story.

The book is wonderfully written with little to no errors and is descriptive enough to paint a vivid picture of the world, it's denizens and it's surroundings without being boring or confusing. The story is intended for young readers, but I think that young adults, and even adult readers, may still find the story enjoyable.

I am looking forward to future installments of this franchise.

It may seem crass to say that this book "sucks". After all, we're a community of avid readers and respect the written word. But, I'm afraid it's a fact. From the vocabulary, sentence structure, editing, plot/character development, and pathetically grabby ending, this book sucks. Shrug.

I discovered this novel in the Junior Fiction section at my local library, although a description I read on-line classed it as a Young Adult book. It was written in 2006, but set in the 1800's in London. It is based on the supposed writing of a fictional Dragonologist, Dr Ernest Drake. The two protagonists, Daniel and Beatrice, are 11 & 12 years old. Unknown to them, their parents are also Dragonologists and are overseas. The children are sent to stay with Doctor Drake. At first they don't understand why they have been sent to stay with him but it becomes clear later on. They are there to learn about dragons as real, living creatures-not legends or fantasy. However, this is fiction and the fantasy aspect brought fun and life to the novel.
It has gentle moments along with action and adventure, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I have always been fascinated with dragons myself since I was a child, and first heard the song Puff the Magic Dragon. The Dragon's Eye contains a red dragon fighting a mean one (who happens to be Welsh), but the dragons manage to overcome the scenario with assistance. Strangely enough, my own Junior Fiction novels (one self-published, one awaiting editing), contain a Welsh red Dragon and a mean green one-and I wrote my stories long before I read this.
Do our heroes find the Dragon's Eye? And just what is the Dragon's Eye? Well, you'll have to read the book and find out!

The Dragon's Eye, Dragonology Chronicles, Volume One by Dugald A. Steer is a great book for Dragon People. Personally I like dragons but this book had a ton of imformation on this book. The Dragon's Eye is about two twelve year old siblings named Beatrice and Daniel whose parents have been gone for four years on a mission in India for business. They recieve a letter from their parents telling them that they will not be home and that they are going to stay with an old friend named Dr. Drake. During their stay with Dr. Drake, they are included in a secret Dragon Society. When evil arises, they go on a mission to retrieve the Dragon Eye Jewel befor the evil Ignatius Crook does.
I came across this book when my mom gave it to me for my birthday. The major themes of this book are to protect dragons, learn more about them, and to stop evil. Based on the cover, I thought the book was going to be like a documentary, but I was suprised when I started to read it and it turned out to be an actual story. But the hint of the book's title did let me know that it was all about dragons. A no-dur moment. The style of the book is that the reader has to have knowledge about this topic to understand it. Before I read this boo, I did not know anything about dragons. As I read it, I learned more about the topic and started to understand more and more. I liked the style of writing overall. The book was a little different from some of Dugald A. Steer's other books, but it was very good and a little slow at some parts.
I recommend this book to almost any age as long as you can read. It would be good for young children because fantasy rules. For adults and teens it is a little boring in the fact that Dragons are not real. This might be different for some people but overall, I will admit that it is a little boring at some parts. The end is the most eventful part.

This book was alot better then I thought. It went a bit fast as it is not a very long book. But I truly loved this book. It is perfect for any age. There are a few harder words but not alot. I love Dragon books and this book gave me just enough to get me hooked. I pray there are more books out(I have not looked yet) in the series.
