ا. شربیانی

As most of people do job for living, maximum number of people goes to their offices or workstations to work may be much industrious so that it payback more bucks which may fulfill their amenities and additional needs even though the job is not much interesting. If you ask why they should have to do these dull jobs they may bluntly shoot you these questions: “Who will pay my son’s education fees?” and “Who will pay the loan amount that my bank given to me to construct/buy my own house?” for these you cannot practically answer. Sometimes a work which we regard as not interesting may take 10 hours to complete rather than the actual time of 6 hours and the work that is interesting, happens to be finished with less time than the actual time. This book pours ideal solutions to make a dull job interesting to save more time in office and to spend the saved time with your sweetheart or family.

As I am going to start my career within a week I picked this book to read to find what kind of solutions are penned to enjoy the job as well as life. This book fulfilled my expectations. The author gives justification to solutions for each tough situation that we find in our day-to-day work cycle. He has given more illustrations of higher officials, sales personnel and managers which might help us to fix solutions for situations that arise with difficulties that we experience also he listed out some of his life experiences.

These kinds of books depend on the mental-strength of the reader. The one who experienced much with dealing people and handling situations may not find this book as much interesting as actually and the one who already read Dale Carnegie’s “How to stop worrying and start living” and “How to win friends and influence people” may regard this book as repetitive one as this book has a selections of both.

Ich mag den Schreibstil nicht. Und am Ende kommen völlig triviale Tipps rüber.

I don't usually read self help books because I find them...boring. But this particular book really made me change my opinion. I had heard about Dale Carnegie and finally I had a chance to read one of his works. This book talks about the simplest fundas of winning people over and yet with elegance. This book doesn't scream "I'm telling you something important" in you face. The lessons are what we knew all along but just forgotten over the course of time. This book talks about the simple fundas of the life without any air of superiority around it. Every chapter talks about a funda with multiple anecdotes for better understanding and all in very simple language. Looking forward to read more of Dale Carnegie's works.
Lessons I learned :
1. Count your blessings - not your troubles.
2. No one ever kicks a dead dog.
3. Appeal to the nobler motives.
4. Unjust criticism is often a disguised complement.
5. Arouse in the other person an eager want.

Kirja on täynnä hyvää asiaa. Kyseessä on kokoelma teoksista How to Win Friends and Influence People sekä How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, mikä kannattaa ottaa huomioon ennen kirjan potentiaalista ostamista.

These types of books are hard to rate, in my opinion it all resumes on how the book appeals to the reader and how much they believe the content helped them.

In this case, I believe I've had lot to learn from the contents of this book. Of course, I also believe that I will have to come back from time to time and refresh my memory.

What I really love about such books is when they present real examples or experiences. In such cases, one has much to learn than simply reading a theory. I somehow experienced directly through the book, some cases that would help me from now on. All is left is to remind myself the critical ideas and apply them.

Only if I had the choice of introducing a mandatory course in our school, college or unis or even at workplace, I would make learning to "live well with People" a mandatory course and Dale Carnnegie , the master trainer. Don't get confused with the silly titles of his books, no book has actually made me understand the human as good as that. It's highly recommended to all yo professional and executives out there who are genuinely interested in relationship management, in and outside the workplace. The book would even change the perspective on your personal relations as well.

I previously read, though didn't finish, How to Win Friends and Influence People, so I knew I liked Dale Carnegie's casual writing style and very much agreed with his advice. But much of this book is made up of excerpts from How to Win Friends, so it was a bit redundant for me. I also questioned the advice more on this read than on my previous one, which is largely because of the advice of Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office. I suppose some middle path between the books is the right balance. There's probably more overlap than there is disagreement.

Most of the content is from Dale Carnegie's 'How to Stop Worrying and Star Living' and 'How to Win Friends & Influence People'. If you have already read those two, I suggest you to skip this book.

But it's a short book and reading those anecdotes on famous people including Abraham Lincoln, one more time, can only help.

In self-help books there's always a fine line between pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps aka victim blaming, and learning actually helpful skills or reframing aka building resilience. Some of the advice here clearly barges over that boundary or feels very outdated, such as: when you're too stressed at work: do some breathing exercises! This will definitely solve everything! And: are you unhappy? Think about how bad of life blind people have! Aren't you happy not to be blind?!
Other advise is pretty good, but also by now probably part of common knowledge, such as that people will like you more when you give them genuine compliments, and if you make people think something is their own idea, they will agree (buy) more easily. And: try to see things from the other person's perspective, and when offering criticism, instead of saying a good thing and a "but" then the negative thing, use "and" instead.
Overall not terrible from a book by a capitalist from 1930's-1940's, but also: I'm not going to read the full two books.

When I read ‘How to win friends and influence people’ I found it really enlightening and understood why I had experienced a lot of problems socially due to my personality being too upfront and honest with my opinions. People like to feel they are right and that they know more than you do and unfortunately when you know a lot and you have a very good memory for useless information you find yourself unintentionally correcting people a lot of the time. Not from a place of believing that you are more superior and therefore right but from a genuine place of wanting to share the information you’ve acquired in life to benefit the other person; hence why I was drawn to become a teacher. I now realise that it’s best just to listen to people and accept that it’s not necessary to point out all the things they’re saying that are actually not true and that perhaps they should do some further research on it, as it won’t be received well at all. I fact check everything and always have, as I’ve fallen foul of other people’s bullshit a few times, so what I say is generally accurate or I wouldn’t say it unless I’ll add the caveat that I heard it somewhere so it might not be true. Most people don’t have this tendency to question everything and so are very confident in the false information that they communicate. So I was very disappointed with this book as it was essentially a copy with the only addition relevant to work of simple advice like clear your desk and prioritise your work in order of importance. I would have said these are rudimentary and so in 200 pages I didn’t learn anything more than what I already had from the previous book. It would have greatly benefited from more direct application to life and to a job rather than specific examples of dealing with people as the other book had that covered already.
