Well, my first question would be: Who are you to give Ernest Hemingway one star? The answer: No one. I'm reading the complete works of Hemingway, so this his tenth (10) book written in 1932, was required. It is a treatise on bull fighting during the twenties. The book is extremely dated with only sparks of Hemingway's skill showing through from time to time. As Hemingway can be, it is often caustic. I also do not approve of bull fighting and this behind the scenes study makes it clear although the bull has a chance to kill its attacker, escape in not an opportunity. There is no opportunity for a bull to be given freedom for valor. Stud bulls are never used for the ring. Hemingway also wanders off, in this work even inventing/including an old woman to help him wander, many times. I simply could never recommend this book. Even as a work on bull fighting it is too dated, caustic.
