This is a fun picture book that will definitely appeal to fans of America’s Got Talent! Duck and his barnyard friends have decided to enter the talent contest at the fair. First prize is a trampoline! But Farmer Brown is sure that those animals are up to something and is keeping a very close eye on them. Young readers will have fun finding out how these animals will get their act together to win that awesome prize. This book is definitely a great read aloud, especially if you practice mooing or quacking their contest songs! The illustrations are hilarious!

My favorite part of this story is the Duck's performance of "Born to be Wild" at the county fair! Such a funny story.

These "Farmer Brown" books are always fun to read. In this one Farmer Brown knows the animals are up to 'something' and tries to figure it out but can't seem to figure it out. All the while the animals are all dancing and singing and practicing for the county fair to win a trampoline. . Farmer Brown doesn't want to leave his animals alone to "get into trouble" he loads them up and takes them with him to the county fair. He heads off to have fun and sure enough the animals go and enters the contest... and the fun really begins. Your little one will be grinning and giggling from page one to he end of this story.

This farmyard adventure with an outing to the county fair is just too convoluted and silly for me.

Famer Brown keeps a very close eye on his animals. Every night he listens as the cows, sheep, pigs, and the mischievous Duck snore. Duck finds an ad for a talent show at the county fair. First prize is a trampoline, only slightly used. So he gets all the animals to rehearse right under Farmer Brown’s nose. At the talent show, the cows and sheep sing, the pigs sleep through their interpretive dance, and Duck wows the crowd with his rendition of “Born to Be Wild.” That night when Farmer Brown listens to the animals in the barn he hears them snoring, “Dooby dooby BOING!”

The illustrations are done in Lewin’s signature style, with loose black brush strokes and washes of watercolors. At times the plot is pushed forward by the illustrations alone, so you may want to ask kids questions as you go along to be sure they understand the major plot points.

Duck finds an ad in the paper for a talent show at the fair, with the first place prize being a trampoline! Duck decides to help the animals prepare, with the cows singing twinkle twinkle little star, the sheep singing home on the range, and the pigs dancing. They managed to do all this without Farmer Brown catching them. When he goes to the fair, the animals enter the talent show, with Duck's version of Born to be Wild winning! They win the trampoline and get it all the way back to the farm, were Farmer Brown finally hears them bouncing and finds out what they had been up to this whole time.
I thought this was a cute book, I really enjoy all the click clack moo books.
This would be useful in a classroom to teach patterns, by how the dooby dooby moo and similar phrases are repeated throughout the book.

SUMMARY: The animals are up to something again. Farmer Brown just knows it. In the barn late at night, unbeknownst to Farmer Brown, they practice their talents for the county fair talent show. They work their hardest until the day they are loaded up for the fair by Farmer Brown and enter the contest. The animals do their best, but it is Duck who saves the day.

ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations are nicely spaced and detailed in this Click Clack book. They are funny and the facial expressions add to the humor.

REVIEW: I began laughing from the very first page upon reading this book. The animals trying to sing at all is quite humorous and so much of their personalities show through. Cronin throws in a few disclaimers at the bottom of some of the pages that will have the adult readers laughing even if the kids don't get it. I also like that this book is more positive than some of the others. No one gets hurt in the process of the animals getting what they want. There are lots of animal sounds younger kids will enjoy saying while you read. I highly recommend this book as a laugh out loud funny read!

AGE RECOMMENDATION: Advertised for ages 4-8
