I liked reading this book because it doesn’t really make sense. This book is about animals doing things they can’t do like typing and going on strike when they don’t get what they want. This book is definitely comical and I can see why children like it so much. Not only is the story funny, but the illustrations make you laugh, too. I would recommend reading this book.

Snow day today, and daddy duty includes letting the 7-year-old add a few of his favorites to the gr collection... One day I will let him write his own reviews.

Cows that type?! Hens on strike?! Whoever heard of such things, wonders Farmer Brown, as he deals with the messages left for him by his herd of cows, informing him that they want electric blankets for the cold... and that the chickens do as well! Using the neutral Duck as a negotiator, farmer and animals negotiate, until a compromise is reached. Unfortunately for the farmer, the typewriter falls into the hands of the ducks next...

Originally published in 2000, and chosen as a Caldecott Honor Book in 2001, Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type is a hilariously entertaining picture-book romp! I would imagine that young listeners will get quite a few giggles out of Farmer Brown's outraged incredulity (I know I did!), and will enjoy following along as the cows negotiate better living conditions. The artwork by Betsy Lewin builds on the madcap humor of the text perfectly, and is very appealing. Recommended to young children who enjoy stories with a silly sense of humor.

What a funny little book! I read Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type yesterday with 5 year old Abby and 3 year old Emma, my neighbor’s granddaughters.

After the first few pages Abby started to giggle and said she knew what the cows were typing. “They want some electric blankets!”

She had read this book at school and remembered it almost word for word! Both girls laughed uproariously all the way to the end of the book. Then I kept hearing “Again! Again! Read it again!”

The drawings are funny and the story is outrageous. What young child doesn’t like funny animal stories! I’m not surprised that this book earned a Caldicott Honor.

Amusing though smacked a little too much of labor strikes and typical corporate bad guys vs. dissatisfied workers for my taste... I know, I know, it is a kids book, though, and it IS hilarious to think of those cows click-clack-mooing away in the barn! :-)

You gotta watch out for those smart cows. Once they realize their power over farmers, there is no end to what they might ask for. Room service. Extra towels. Facials. And you know what THAT means - the price of ice cream will skyrocket!
Never let a cow near a typewriter, that's all I'm saying.

This silly picture book about farm animals who type is one of the funniest I’ve ever read, and a favorite among parents and kids at library story times. Doreen Cronin has a very dry sense of humor, and this book works on multiple levels, entertaining children and adults alike with sophisticated as well as silly jokes. My favorite illustration in the entire book is the scene where we only see Farmer Brown’s shadow, but we can tell from the shape of it that he’s having a meltdown about the latest note from the barn. Subtle moments like that are such treats in children’s books. The twist at the end is also just perfect, and it gets a huge laugh, especially from four- and five-year-olds. For more barnyard humor from Doreen Cronin also check out of one of my favorite chapter books, The Trouble with Chickens.

This book is delightful. The story line is very funny even if you are a number of decades older than three!

Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type focuses on the cows on Farmer Brown's farm and their new discovery-a typewriter. The cows decide that it's too cold in the barn and write to Farmer Brown demanding he give them electric blankets. Farmer Brown reads the letter and is flabbergasted-the cows want electric blankets? No way! Farmer Brown ignores their request and the cows refuse to produce milk. Farmer Brown receives another letter. This time, the hens want electric blankets too! Are the animals crazy? The hens refuse to produce eggs until Farmer Brown fulfills their request. Farmer Brown is furious and writes the animals a letter back. The cows have an emergency meeting and come up with a trade-exchange the typewriter for electric blankets. Farmer Brown decided that this was a good deal and caved, believing this would solve the problem with the animals. But he was wrong......... This book would be great to use to cover the literacy skill, sequencing. I think lower level grades would really enjoy the storyline as well as act out during a readers theater/Shared Reading approach.
