A bit dated, but a very general reader-friendly introduction to the complexities of the human genome. I learned a lot from Caporale's examination of genetic "mutation strategies." For my own work, I focused in on her explication of "jumping genes" or focused mutations and their effects on the development of our immune systems and as hot spots of genetic evolution.
