About 50 pages in I just started skimming through the pages. I might have liked the first Bridget jones and this sequel better had I not already watched and loved the movie. And I admit my poor rating is partially based on the fact that I don't want to think of the movie Mr. Darcy doing or saying some of the stuff described in the book...no! Mr. Darcy does not scream unmanly like when he thinks there is an intruder in the house. Just not!!

*Atención SPOILER si no te has leído el primer libro*

Again this all seemed very abrupt and it was a case of all of a sudden everything fell into place and the book ends. despite that I did thoroughly enjoy this sequel and can't wait to read the third. would recommend to any girl, single or otherwise.

Is there much substance here? No.
Is Bridget an even hotter vapid mess? Yes.

Now that Bridget has what she always wanted, she ends up on a train wreck of self-sabotage through jealousy and lack of self-confidence with much assessment through diary entries.

The running second-timer of how long it has been since sex cracked me up. I know the feeling, Bridget. I also loved the turrets phone call conversations with Magda yelling at her kid in the background.

Biggest criticism: I can't believe we missed this entire Thailand experience in the movie, the 2nd movie failed us hardcore!

I most hate the constant weight assessment and how the toxic friend group continues to hold one another back in life.

Many wondrous quotes, such as
"I can't stand being out in dating hell again. It's an impenetrable sea. I'm going to be on my own forever."

"What am I going to do with my life? I know. Will eat some cheese.”

“She's a jellyfisher: You have a conversation with her that seems all nice and friendly, then you suddenly feel like you've been stung and you don't know where it came from.”

"Have managed to get energy back using Chardonnay"

Imogen Church is spectacular at narration and breathes extra life into the pages.

Solid 3 Star guilty pleasure and light read.

〝one minute you're closer to someone than anyone in the whole world, next minute they need only to say the words 'time apart', 'serious talk' or 'maybe you...' and you're never going to see them again and will have to spend the next six months having imaginary conversations in which they beg to come back, and bursting into tears at the sight of their toothbrush.〞

★★★

I'm so mad they did this to some of my favorite characters. I loved the first book but I almost couldn't get through this one. all the characters became so annoying?? it's like the author just flipped a switch. the first book was really funny and relatable but this was just sad and like a bad soap opera. the whole book was just the miscommunication trope in different variations and I HATE the miscommunication trope. like how can bridget talk about becoming an adult and finally growing up and then just be so stupid throughout the whole book?? almost getting arrested? actually getting arrested in thailand?? and then just assuming that you're boyfriend's cheating?? damn this made me so fucking angry. bridget jones should never have become a series.

Helen Fielding is basically the world's greatest feminist. In her first Bridget Jones book, she taught us that no woman is complete unless she has the love of a foppish, sub-Hugh Grant, barely heterosexual posh man to complete her. To add to the confusion, Bridget is in love with the actor Colin Firth, who they end up casting in the film as her actual love interest, Mark Darcy. If that wasn't confusing enough, they throw in Hugh actual Grant as the Bad Boy Whom All Women Are Attracted To In Spite Of Themselves. And he doesn't really play a Hugh Grant type either. Well, he does, but it's more like the Hugh Grant in About A Boy. Or the Hugh Grant in real life, who fucks crack whores in the mouth.

This is a review of the book though, which is not a film. It's not the first book either, it's the sequel to the first book. And it's not the film which is a sequel to the first film. In this book, Bridget gets her dream job, interviewing Colin Firth for some magazine or TV show or whatever. This is very confusing if you've seen the first film, obviously. This is the book though, so we'll carry on.

Does anything of note happen in this book? LOADS of stuff, but none that I can actually remember. There's a scene at the start of it which is funny because foreign people are hilarious, and gay people are icky. I think that's the point the author was trying to make, anyway. The key themes of the book are that women are useless without men, other women stab you in the back at every opportunity, and that no one thin or good looking can be a good person.

Fielding's novels are loosely based on a couple of Jane Austen books, although they're not that much like them; well, except for the fact that their attitudes to women, men and relationships are two hundred years out of date.

Can't wait for the third one!

Funny Bridget. Lots to laugh about, many miscommunication makes for that frustrated feeling, and lots of girl power (kinda. In the end). Loved Shazzer and Jude, hated Rebecca of course (Imogen Church) portrayed her magnificantly. Slightly silly, hugely neurotic with laugh out loud moments. A little draggy in parts, but this was a fun flirty ride. Mark is cool ha ha. And Bridget is, well, Brigdet.

Język prosty, by nie rzec prostacki. Fabuła wybitnie nudna. No po prostu nie.
