3.5 stars. An interesting book which the author describes as ‘a fictional autobiography’. The book is mainly set in New York in the 1920s. The protagonist, writer Henry Miller, writes about his employment experiences and his sexual adventures. He recalls his childhood and the part about his friend Curley is a highlight of the novel.
I found the book a difficult read as there is no plot momentum, a lot of ranting, and an over abundance of sex scene descriptions. However, there are many brilliantly written paragraphs.
This book was first published in 1939.
