The Taste of Home cookbook: cooks who care edition is a thorough book that contains a large amount of reference information, including diagrams of the various cuts from beef, lamb, pork, etc. It seems to be a guide for those who love to make items from scratch and the cooks using it will need to be sure they have sufficient prep and cooking time. One nice feature of the book is that for certain holidays or celebrations, a complete suggested menu is provided from its contents. I did find a few referenced recipes, such as a baked western omelet or a stuffed cabbage casserole for the crock pot to be unique. Nevertheless, experienced or inexperienced cooks will soon find themselves at the brink of being known as chefs.
I made a pear bread out of this book, and was not impressed. I will continue to try other recipes, but will trust my instincts, which said it needed more flavor and that the pans were too full!
I have loved their magazines for years. When I saw that there was a cookbooks, of course I had to grab it. There are so many categories. And the recipes are so easy to follow. I have made several. I use this book during the holidays the most.
I like Taste of Home's cookbooks. They always feature a wide variety of recipes that are easy to follow. Granted, I don't always follow recipes to a tee, as I often like to 'improvise' and attempt to make them more to my families' tastes, but I do often consult cookbooks for ideas or to find recipes that we may like. I do enjoy trying new foods as well. I would recommend Taste of Home's books to both new and seasoned cooks.
