Harriet M. Welsch has just received the best news of her eleventh year--Ole Golly is coming back! Harriet can still remember how sad she was when her beloved nanny married George Waldenstein and moved away. But the circumstances of Ole Golly's return remain unclear. Where is George Waldenstein?
With Mr. and Mrs. Welsch living in France for three months, Sport confiding that he has a crush on a girl at school, and the arrival of a mysterious new neighbor, who's going to require a whole lot of spying, Harriet already has her hands full. Then she overhears Ole Golly saying she's innocent--but innocent of what? Harriet the Spy is on the case and ready to help Ole Golly in any way she can.

I picked this book up a few years after reading the first one, and had no idea this was by a different author. But it didn't read any differently because I was young, and damn, I loved it. I thought that was the end of the series, and was saddened, but now I realize that this is the first of a series? Wow. I guess I have to revisit my childhood?

Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh ,is one of my all time favorite books. In this companion novel, Helen Ericson does a good job of channeling Harriet's personality and the overall feel of the original. However, I didn't particularly like that Ole Golly came back in this book... the other book had ended with Harriet growing up and realizing that she didn't need Ole Golly anymore. There's a bit of a mystery surrounding her return that kept me reading, but overall I wasn't amazed by the conclusion.

Still a good book, but I didn't like the style of this new author as much as the original author.

I loved this series growing up. I haven't seen the movie, didn't really want to in case they ruined my perception of Harriet and Sport!

This book is nowhere near as good as its predecessor, but what is? Harriet's parents have gone to Paris, and Ole Golly has returned to take care of Harriet for the duration. But Ole Golly has a big secret and Harriet has to spy until she finds out what it is.
