As I left college, diploma in hand, and went into that limbo period before entering the real world, I found myself a complete idiot when it came to personal finance. I didn't know what a 401(k) plan exactly is (I knew it was for retirement), what pensions are (also something for retirement), or how to invest in stocks and bonds (totally clueless about this!).

Because of this, I thought it would be helpful to pick up a couple of basic books on personal finance (this one and the wall street journal one, which I am still reading). Both have turned out to be great - I learned about all of this an more. This book is one of the best "for Dummies" books I've read, partially because this information is so practical. It's not the most entertaining topic by any means, but it's important information to know.

It's definitely a book every college grad should read to get a hold of their finances, to feel empowered and stress-free.

This book stands out as the very first book I delved into within this genre, and it undeniably secures a spot among my top three most treasured reads for the year 2023.

Dummies books just do not disappoint. There is a good chunk of this book that is a lot of common sense, but it is really nice to have it all laid out and put together.

I took a lot of little things out of this book and am really happy I read it. It will be great tool for helping to reorganize my finances going forward. I would say this is an essential read for everyone just because people in general are very uneducated when it comes to managing their own money, and even understanding money and consumer credit, but it is kind of a slow read and can be boring at times. It's all just really important.

Highly recommended for those who have trouble with their finances, are looking for some basic principals, or would like to have a general understanding of all the crazy terms that pop up in the world of money.

If you haven't started thinking about your money or you're too afraid to begin the process of analyzing your spending and you don't even know where to begin to understand how to invest and build your wealth, this is an amazing first step. EDUCATE YOURSELF. Start here. There is so much jargon in the world of finance, making it hard to comprehend for the average person, and so many companies/people/influencers make money from your ignorance.

72% of U.S. adults said they would be “further ahead with their money today if they had a personal finance class in high school.”- https://www.ramseysolutions.com/finan...

It's okay to make mistakes. It's okay that you didn't know better when you were 18. Reading this book will give you a head start and Eric Tyson writes like a grandpa who is warning you about all the scams to avoid when you're ready to start handling your own money.

Definitely a great read. This books provides a basic yet comprehensive overview of many different important financial topics (many of which were not even touched on in my personal finance class in college), such as health, life and disability insurance, writing a will, investing within and outside of retirement accounts, mortgages/investing in real estate, education savings accounts for children, planning for retirement, owning and operating a small business, etc. What I especially liked is that the author tailored all of these financial decisions based on where you, the reader, are at in your life. For example, whether you are single or married, your income tax bracket, have children or not, and your age will all play factors in how you should make financial decisions. The author’s main advice throughout the book was to educate yourself on finances and to be your own personal financial planner.

This is going to help me a LOT as a freelancer to determine my annual needs. It also teaches a bushel about investing, retirement accounts, debt, mortgages, and other day to day in an outs to help its reader save money, time, hassel, and INSTEAD build a life worth dreaming about - all in a charming stylistic text. Loved it. Highly recommended :)

I have read this book several times since my late twenties. I am now 50 and the book is still very useful to me. It is not a get rich quick scheme and the advice may seem boring to young people, but the basic message is that you must live within your means, save for the future, and avoid people who are selling you bad financial products. Is it a sexy message for a 20 something? No, of course it isn't. But it is an important message that they really need to hear.

Like I said, I got a lot out of this book at many different stages of my life. Now on the 7th edition, and it is still rock solid. Even a financially savvy person like me needs this info.

This book is perfect for American citizens, who live in the US.
30% of the book was general, and that was the leavening part but the rest is not applicable in the rest of the world! “But USA”

WE'RE going to put this one on hold.

Realizing it doesn't make a ton of sense to read in depth about investing, when I'm literally not going to be making any money for the next four years??? I'll forget it all anyway.

Making a solemn promise to return. to RETURN. At this point I've got at least the basics... or something.
