Some of the concepts you will find in this guide include: the best ways to reduce and eliminate debt; using credit to qualify for the best loan terms; the dangers of “free” online advice; new and pending changes in tax laws; tips on buying insurance; strategies for investing; and making sense of financial resources. There is concrete guidance for tracking your expenditures, saving for the future, and surviving life’s changes and challenges. Tyson is an author, columnist, and speaker, and has written other Dummies® books.

Now, before you let the 5-star rating cause you to jump up and buy this book, read the review first. The For Dummies series is an excellent way to learn things. Financial planning is a subject that requires an almost daily update of your knowledge base. There are some fundaments of the subject that are outstandingly covered in this book and if you get it for that reason alone, you'll be doing well, but if you want to keep current, you really need a reliable website. Fortunately, the book includes a link to the For Dummies website that appears to be quite current, so what I'd do is get the latest (not this) edition of the book and frequent the website. Use to teach your kids, for the love of Mike! Goodness knows they don't get the essential advice given in this book in our schools private or public (and I support public schools). The style of presentation is conversation and quite enjoyable to read. Just be sure to keep current if you're going to follow the advice that the book gives you. With that, I wish you a very happy personal finance!

This self-help book really helped me to understand my own finances and how to improve my financial situation. It's simply written and explains things as concisely as necessary. There wasn't too much information where I became bored, but there was enough information where I felt it was valuable. It gave some great tips to determining your current situation and standing, as well as great tips for how to improve and save money for the rest of your life. For basic and simple finance information, this book was great.

Recommend from a colleague when he asked me about having any investment. Best book from the series X for Dummies I have ever read. Eric Tyson has done his best in explaining all the finance jargon with plain English and helped me learn mistake from the others.

Although most of items in the books are only available/only work in the USA (retirement account, 401 plan, its complex tax system), but you can get the concept of how bond, stock, certificate of deposit work. Insurance is also boring topic for most of us, but it worths reading.

I wish I would read this book two years ago, so I can have a better plan for my personal finance rather than just saving account and lend it to my relative, and help me out of headache when worked in project of investment sector ;)

Really excellent primer for those of us, like me, who needed some information and felt insecure about where to start.

If you are looking for information, you got it here. This thick book covers everything you need to handle personal finance. I mean everything.

I enjoyed learning new material and researching the things I couldn’t understand. I’m not saying the concepts are difficult to acquire at all. There are just some that are completely foreign to me and research was needed.

I highly recommend this to everyone

I went bankrupt and had to sell my newborn child to afford a McChicken sandwich at McDonalds.
