Another in my personal finance reading for the year. There are common messages in many of these books: #1 - get out of debt as soon as possible, #2 - cut your expenses, #3 - have at least 6 months of living expenses in the bank. They say it over and over!

This book also talks a lot about investing for retirement and what that should look like. He writes simply and clearly and explains everything well. He definitely has opinions, so you should examine them to see if they fit into your own life.

Biggest take away from the book - diversify my retirement investments and discuss savings goals with my partner. Inspired me to make some changes to my personal finance.

Skipped chapters I didn't need. Know where to find information to revisit. Simple enough of a book.

So much information. Really, a very complete guide to personal finances.

But they're personal finances so it'll also put you to sleep. Worth reading but I recommend doing it in small doses

Despite the for "Dummies" name, this book was a good, basic overview of personal finance. As I was heading into a new period of life change, it was a good thing to read/skim over and help get the big picture in mind. Even though I've seen all the pieces before and had a good plan, I learned a few new tidbits and appreciate his advice about the drawbacks of the finance industry, even though he does make a living in that realm as well. Better to have eyes wide open, but to be actively managing your finances. If you aren't, this book is a good place to start.

Educate yourself at a young age on all things personal finance!!

As young people, I find it odd that we get no lessons at school on all things personal finance - understanding the importance of saving, understanding the importance of pensions, knowing about high interest accounts etc. A well known youtuber recommended that we educate ourselves and make smart financial decisions at a young age so I’d recommend this as vital reading to anyone in their late teens and twenties.

The book gives a great introduction to finance for people who are not au fait with the field. It presents sensible options on what to do with your savings, however big or small they may be.

One issue of the book for a GB reader like me is that it’s very USA focused. It would be good to have a GB version. That said I learnt a lot from the book and it made me ask myself financial questions that I hadn’t even thought to ask before.

Educating yourself on this topic whilst you’re still young!!!

This book should be on everyone's bookshelf. It's written well and easy to read, as I think all books in the "For Dummies" series are although I've only read a few. I bought it mostly for the information on investing and retirement accounts but found something interesting in every chapter. Knowledge is power and financial knowledge will help you in the long run.
