Splendidly delightful! This is not quite the same Anne we first met in Green Gables but a maturing and horizons-broadened Anne. The new characters she meets while away at college add depth to the ongoing story; but her connections to Avonlea remain ever strong. I love Davy's letters describing his many plights. I positively love these books even more as an adult now!

This volume of Anne’s life covers her years at Redmond College earning her B.A. Despite this, it’s far more concerned with her love life and the lives of her friends, both old and new, than her studies.

Yes, it’s predictable (there’s an attempted fake-out towards the end that fails to be in any way convincing) and a little bit twee (most Anne fans wouldn’t have it any other way, of course) but it’s also very funny and devastatingly sad in places. For all its faults, this may be my favourite Anne book so far.

Anne of the Island è incentrato soprattuto sull'amore e sui cambiamenti che molti personaggi a noi cari subiranno.

Continuing my friendship with Anne with the third book in the series, I had the same surefire calm vacation experience as I've done reading the ones before. There's not much to be said about a new Anne book - other than the fact that if you've enjoyed one of them, you'll probably enjoy another too. There was only one thing slightly off in this one for me - it's supposed to be a book about Anne in college. And yet - Anne's college goes by without... any college. I feel like we don't hear about it at all. It's just her life during the summers and her house. And what's this about killing dogs and cats?..

However, I have to admit that the romance is n  absolutely perfect!n I'm not a romance reader, so I thought Anne and Gilbert's love story to be done absolutely perfectly in its modesty and minimal approach. It's just so heartwarming, true and cozy. Just what I would have imagined for Anne!

Ah the comfort of going back to Green Gables never ceases; it is always a pleasant and gracious read.

As always, we start with a meaningful and thoughtful quote:

“All precious things discovered late,
To those that see them issue forth.
For love in sequel work with fate,
And draws the veil from bidden worth” - Tennyson

The perfect quote to kick off a novel where it seems everyone is pairing up! Diana is getting married, Gilbert proposes, Roy and Anne find romance. Love is a force to be reckoned with in this novel.

Meanwhile, even though Anne has left Prince Edward Island for college on the mainland, we still get regular updates and visits back to Green gables. Most of the letters to Anne come via Davy, who is still a mischievous but charming little boy. He just melts my heart; especially when he writes his letters. In one of them he tells Anne of what his perfect wife would be life and also asks if the “devil has a father?”

Lots of Gilbert. Very good thing to read during life transitions. Relatable people (especially Phil and Anne). I am afraid I'm going to start talking like Anne if I keep reading these books. Ruby very very sad.
