This book left me a bit on the depressed side. The characters made such debacles of their relationships that it was plain miserable for all! Teddy went off to be a famous artist. Ilse went off to sing or some such. Perry went off to study law and Emily stayed home. Dean almost got the girl, but her heart belonged to someone else. Emily's pride cost her several years of being alone. All of that being said I still read the book because I was invested in the characters. I wanted, no needed, to find out how everyone and everything turned out. While there is eventually a Happily Ever After it took a lot of twists, turns and heart-aches to get there and that left me feeling depressed instead of satisfied. The author didn't insert herself quite as much into the story as in book two which I'm thankful for, but the book did switch from journal entries where Emily was "speaking" to chapters of the author telling the story. Easier to handle, but yet still wondering why the different styles for each book.
