Loved it. But am giving it 4 stars because Emily drove me BONKERS for like 3/4 of the book. She was so stubborn and proud and so much could have been avoided if she’d just employed some basic communication with everyone. So annoying. But amazing storytelling, amazing writing, and amazing characters as per usual. I just love LM Montgomery so very much.

Also, can we just talk about how Dean is a big ol’ manipulative predatory creeper?!?!?

EXCELENTE!
Absolutamente recomendable.

I thought Emily's Quest was a fitting ending to the trilogy. I can't help but thinking this is how Montgomery wished her own story had turned out even though Montgomery wrote in this book that "it was a devilish thing to be a woman."

However, a modern reader may have some problems with the story. First, the book contained a trope I hate: unrequited love based on misunderstanding and pride. Second, Emily had a series of beaux that she kept on a string. She seemed to reel them in and out at will. I didn't know who she wanted to end up with and she was with one of her admirers despite the fact she didn't love him. It didn't make me respect her. Third, there are some terrible references to disability, referring to Dean Priest as Jarback. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I didn't realize until this third book that Dean Priest, one of her love interests, was 42 and Emily was 19. And he had been "friendly" with her since she was 14 or 15. I don't know how I missed this earlier and I have a hard time seeing how this was acceptable, even at the time it was written.
