Es el primer libro que leo de Nicholas Sparks y debo decir que me sorprendió. Pensé que eran historias muy melosas y que todas se parecían entre sí entonces nunca quise darle una oportunidad.
De esta historia tampoco he vista la pelicula, justamente por la misma razón por la que no leía los libros.
Es un libro muy corto que se puede leer en una tarde y cuenta, resumidamente, la historia de Noah y Ally desde que se conocen de jovenes hasta ya ancianos. Los protagonistas ya desde jovenes toman muy enserio en amor que se sienten y por esto la historia se diferencian de otras porque no hay caprichos sino que es un amor maduro.
A lo largo del libro vemos como tienen que superar los obstaculos para poder estar juntos. Lo que más me gustó fue como los superan pues demuestra la seriedad de la historia.

Me sé la peli de memoria asique no me he llevado ninguna sorpresa, pero me ha gustado mucho. Lo he leído muy rápido, en dos ratos. Es el primer libro que leo de este autor.
La historia me encanta y ese final ha hecho que se me parta el corazón en mil pedacitos, qué dura es esa enfermedad...

That was boring as fuck.

Now, I'll admit that I don't normally read 'light' or 'sweet' books. This book was a Little Free Library find, and it is not my first Sparks book - I read 'At First Sight' (a hand-me-down from a former coworker) and found it to be trite and watered-down pap. But I'd heard plenty enough about the Notebook, not to mention that it was turned into a movie (haven't seen the movie) so thought I'd give Sparks another try. This book HAD to be better, right? Uh, no.

And this book was boring AF. I have a relative who had Alzheimer's, so it's not like I couldn't sympathize with the main character, but the book was fucking dull.

After two books from Sparks, I likely will never read anything else from him.

Esta claro que este no es mi género favorito. La historia está bien escrita y el concepto que intenta transmitir es bonito y está bien plasmado, pero... para mi gusto es una historia demasiado almibarada. Hay ciertas situaciones y diálogos bastante tontos y alguna escena que no me ha parecido demasiado congruente.

Los personajes... estereotipos del género. Poco que añadir.

Para mí al final le han sobrado muchas páginas. Una vez comprendida la situación que se plantea me ha parecido muy repetitivo darle tantas vueltas a dicha situación.

I have, in my lifetime, come across so few people that I can honestly say the following about "Straight to a fault". Mr. Sparks steals the cake in this book. Not only does he play up to every hopelessly/sappily romantic notion pop-culture has ever churned out for women over the age of 10, he does this in a sexist/uber macho yet trying to come of as sweet but rough around the edges kind of way. Oh male privilege.... If you want to write from a woman's perspective, you should maybe have the forethought to converse with at least one or two about the scenario before jumping headlong into the task.
The book was wholly unbelievable, trite and painful to read. I am amazed that movies are made based on this drivel.

I will honestly never know what I truly think of this book because I watched the movie first and it was all I could imagine the entire time I was reading this...

I loved the movie - but I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Por principio de cuentas, jamás he visto la película ni planeo hacerlo. Lo único que me guio a escuchar este audiobook fue la voz del narrador pues es un conocido actor de doblaje, sin embargo, aunque su voz es muy melódica en otros trabajos, creo que aquí se quedó corto.

En fin, este romance ha sido hypeado a más no poder y una vez conocida la historia, no dejo de preguntarme porqué. No encontré diferencia entre las voces de Ally y Noah, aunado al hecho de que, en realidad, ella no tiene personalidad en absoluto. Noah ha estado enamorado de una mujer cuyo estatus no cuadra con el propio. Él es un poeta, enamorado de la vida y un hombre que, ciertamente, tiene corazón de ángel.

A lo largo de los capítulos, el autor desborda de amor con sus palabras, pero no lo muestra como tal. Se encarga de decirnos que ambos se aman apasionadamente y que se pertenecen el uno al otro, pese a ello, en ningún momento conecté con ellos. Vaya, apenas y sentí empatía por su caso.

A mi gusto le hace falta profundidad, ya que la forma en que está escrito no es nada del otro mundo. Eso sí, debo de aceptar que hay un par de frases que son muy bonitas y quizá esta sea la razón por la que el mundo se ha vuelto loco con el libro. No es así mi caso.

De hecho, resulta muy risible la forma en que traduce el deseo y lo describe como amor. Creo que al autor no le vendría mal leerse un par de libros de erótica para que entonces sí sepa de lo que se trata un romance apasionado en el que dos cuerpos embonan perfectamente.

En fin, estoy segura de que jamás leeré algo de Nicholas Sparks porque soy muy exigente con mis romances y algo escrito de manera pobre, plagado de personajes vacuos, jamás llegará a satisfacerme. Me queda claro que la mayoría de gente se deja llevar por un romanticismo sin sentido sólo porque el tipo o la tipa están más guapos a no poder.

Y sí, este es otro romance pedorro, pero para señoras. Qué horror.

I read this book on a train from Italy to somewhere else in Europe after graduating from college. I was unfortunate enough to be forced to buy it because there were no other English Language novels to choose from.

I know this is a beloved book, by a beloved author, but if I could give it any sort of negative rating, I would. The "Gag me with a spoon" category is almost too kind. My apologies to any one who likes Nicholas Sparks - if you're able to find the genius in his writing, more power to you!

When I heard the plot - an old man is reliving his personal history with the love of his life as she suffers from dementia - I had much hope for a touching story. Esh - I was sorely disappointed.

My favorite memory is reading the scene between the two young (and I'm assuming attractive) lovers...they are in a boat on a lake, romantic setting, yes? It starts to rain. She's wearing a white dress. "We have to get you inside where it's warm...better remove those wet clothes, you'll catch a cold..." Commence eye-rolling now.

After reading the book, I passed it on to my now husband, who was also on the train. Keep in mind, there were no other English options! He starts to comment, "Oh, they're on the lake in a boat...okay, it's raining...oh geeze, why do you girls read this crap?"

And that's what I think about this book...why would anyone read this (unless there were no other choices)?!?
