Wait, nobody died in the end? I had to check the author! Then I realized, there is a 2nd book.

When I pick up a Nicholas Sparks book, I expect to have a sappy Lifetime Movie/Hallmark grin on my face while reading. This is followed by aww, isn't that just the saddest thing he/she was so full of life. This was okay, not his best.

I had a problem with the hero, a womanizer, patronizing, and arrogant. If he was funny, I could get past his holier-than-thou attitude. I honestly could not see the attraction. A snobby, spoiled, city boy is not prime hero-hunk material. Now the devoted deputy, he was wonderful.

I liked the relationships, etc., and the ending was great, but all the talk about the cemetery and the supernatural stuff was very annoying. Nicholas Sparks is a great writer, but the 3 stars I gave were generous. I didn’t hate the book, it was just painful to get past the storyline about the supernatural crap. lol

Nicely written but I enjoyed more in the story about lights at the old grave than in love story, as it became too predictable for me... :)

I’d say that jumping between viewpoints in subsequent paragraphs was confusing, but there was no plot even worth keeping track of in the first place. The ~will they, won’t they, city boy, small town girl~ phenomenon is both overdone and undercooked here- listen to “Don’t Stop Believing” for a better take on that whole thing. I am a longtime fan of Sparks, even amongst the cliche and predictability, but this one isn’t it.

Small town girl meets big city boy in this cliche romance. It started off strong with the focus on Jeremy's investigative journalism which brought him to Lexie's town to solve the mystery of spooky lights in an old cemetery...and then became 300 pages of Lexie and Jeremy falling in love and then pushing eachother away (for no reason) in the span of like 3 days. I usually enjoy Nicholas Sparks novels but would not recommend this. I wouldn't have finished it if I weren't reading it to my mom who wanted to see how it ended.

Also the epilogue...that miracle is just...I have no words

My personal favourite little gem from this novel..."Never once had Jeremy heard of a spirit guide channeling from the other, hotter place. A lost loved one never mentioned that he was being roasted on a spit or boiled in a cauldron of motor oil, for instance." ... A tad cynical, maybe. But it certainly is a fair point.

Personally, I think anything that Nicholas Sparks writes is pretty amazing and it is no different with this book. I love Sparks' twists and turns with his novels and how he make you so happy and so sad at the same time. He gives us hope for love and makes our standards for guys a little unrealistic lol! However, this book is just as good as the rest. It has love, loss and plenty of twists and surprises to keep you wanting more.

Years ago I swore to my best friend that I would have never read another Sparks' book, and here I am again. It's one of the weirdest book I have ever read. It's supposed to be a romantic book but there's no chemistry between the two protagonists, everything happens in a unrealisticly fast way (2 days to fall in love?) and it seems that the side characters are only there to fill the pages of the book.
The first pages were decent to me, I almost enjoyed the "mistery" of the lights until it's revealed that it's all a scam.
In conclusion, I once again swear that I'll never read one of his books ever again.
