I would recommend this read to anyone who wanted something easy to read that would NOT make you think.

Next time fate smiles on you: Finish your time in the Army, let fate take its course with the husband of the woman you love, Marry your soul mate, raise the autistic child of the fore mentioned and now deceased husband of the woman you love, keep your father's coin collection to honor his memory, have two children with your soul mate, and... OK finally sell the coins to pay for your children's education.

Mom recommended this one- I hate Nick Sparks' writing. It's too simplistic and yet too formal. In my opinion, no one in this day and age is allowed to use "for" when they mean "because." Too plot driven and he spells everything out. I might have loved this in 7th grade...

No es demasiado sensiblera, pero tiene “momentos” que, de vez en cuando, hacen que el corazón reaccione a las palabras. Eso es lo que tiene la escritura de Sparks, que cuando le sale un producto redondo, consigue emocionarte hasta la médula. En esta novela lo que destacaría es la relación del protagonista con su padre, por encima de la que tiene con Savannah. Creo que es la parte que más me ha decantado para ponerle las cuatro estrellas. Realmente conseguida.
Una de las mejores novelas que he leído de este autor. Y la película tampoco estaba mal.

I really enjoyed the interaction between John and his father a lot more than I did his relationship with Savannah, maybe because it seemed far more real.
How could anyone love two people so much ?? and how could she abandons her beloved man for no reason ??
Savannah leaves John! She doesn't wait for him! She said she truly loved him and then she falls in love him someone else while John is away!it's pointless ! She just made me so mad!



I fell in love with John's character and surprisingly his father too. Each is well written and they felt like real people. I also enjoyed reading about John's military career, What John does for Savannah in the end with his dad's coin collection for Savannah's husband shows how much he loves her and wants her to be happy no matter what pain it causes him. In the end he says "I finally understood what true love meant...love meant that you care for another person's happiness more than your own, no matter how painful the choices you face might be." Love isn't only about spending rest of the life together it's about spending your life for the person you love,sacrificing everything you have for that one person even if you don't get to be with that person.Love is not only about being in one's heart,it's about being in one's soul,in one's memories.

The emotions displayed in this book didn't hit me as strongly as I expected them to, instead of feeling sad or touched I only felt annoyed at the end of this story.

Sparks writes yet another wonderful contemporary romance novel. At first, this book hooked me unlike any other Sparks book, though as it went on, I felt that were some unnecessary moments, or that maybe I've lost interest, as I've read it in a time where I've had examinations in process.

The pacing was great, characters were flushed out as if you knew them from ages ago. The relationship between John and Savanna was nice and sweet, though isn't as strong as the previous books by Sparks. In addition, Sparks writing felt smooth and clean, and his personality certainly shinnied through.

Overall this book is definitely recommend to people who'd like a break from there usual genre (unless your fav genre is romance). Definitely a great read that I very much enjoyed. 7/10

I was looking for a book to read for the El trip home but didn't have time to really search. This was in the discard section of the library and I grabbed it thinking that it couldn't be that bad. After all, the Notebook was a good guilty pleasure. Could not have been more wrong. Ugh. I wanted to tear my eyes out and stomp on them after reading this. I felt dirty and compromised as if I had too much to drink one night and woke up next to a naked Mike Huckabee. This book was beyond preachy and condescending. Ooof. I have to finish books when I start them so I read this to the end. And then I threw it across the room. So long rant short, I did not enjoy this book.

Dear John by Nicholas Sparks was such a well written book. Full of drama, love, grief, and suspense. I love the detail Sparks gives and the context. Although I like the book, I hated the ending. It leaves me wanting more and begging for more. It is so much better than the movie! I give this book 4 stars because it’s truly amazing!!

Šta je prava ljubav? Kako je definisati?

Mislim da je ovo jedno od suštinskih pitanja u životu. Verujem da se svako nekad zamislio nad tim voli li nekog i voli li neko njega, i kako zapravo možemo to znati. Dobro, ne volim da generlizujem. Možda se nije baš svako zapitao, ali volim da mislim da velika većina jeste. Ljubav je pokretačka snaga, i svesno ili ne žudimo za njom. I to uopšte ne mora da bude romantična ljubav, često i nije. Zašto sam počela ovako? Ne predstavljam ni ja izuzetak. I premda me je sve ono što ljubav nije u toj potrazi zbunjivalo, ipak sam na kraju došla do zaključka da ono što pravu ljubav čini jesu: bezuslovnost i nesebičnost. Ali pre svega dela, a ne reči. Mislim da je to i glavna ideja knjige. Nesebična ljubav, želja da drugome koga volimo bude dobro bez obzira gde mi bili u toj priči. I to je ono što mi se najviše i dopalo u ovom čitanju. To je ono što i najviše volim kod Sparksa. Zapravo, lažem. Ovde mi se najviše dopao Džonov tata koji je opet na kraju i bio simbol te nesebične ljubavi.

Ipak, Sparks ima i svojih mana. Ne može da se pohvali naročitim stilom pisanja. Rečenice su jednostavne, i dosta obične. I, to se kroz tri knjige koje sam pročitala od njega nije promenilo, i verujem da neće. Međutim, meni ne smeta toliko. I, zaprvo mi se dopadaju njegove ideje, i prijaju mi njegove jednostavne ljubavne priče, kao i zdrav odnos prema vezi predstavljen u njima. Ipak postoji nešto što mi je smetalo ovde, a to je slika o američkim vojnicima i ratu u Iraku. Malo mi je muka od njihove propagande. I, smetalo mi što je ovde njihova intervencija u Iraku predstavljena kao nešto što je tako trebalo da bude. Štaviše, taj deo nisam nekako naročito ni doživela iskreno. Kao da su pričali o robotima, a ne ljudima. I kao da se njihova intervencija podrazumeva. Tu mi se nekako ocrtava površnost njihovog mentaliteta, ako mogu tako da se izrazim.

Ipak, od mene imaju preporuku svi ljubitelji ljubavnih romana.

I like it but towards the end of the book I keep hearing " noooo, DON'T!!" in my head. Hate the ending. Saw the movie afterwards and glad it was different.

This is my usual reaction after reading a Nicholas Sparks book. I adore this Guy's writing .Some may say his book is predictable,But even if it is, i enjoy it .In Dear john , Savannah and john love each other .I thought they were gonna end up with each other but fate had other plans with John going to the army .I loved the character of John,he is not perfect which makes him more real,whereas i cannot say the same about Savannah .At times i thought she was selfish . I found Tim's character very endearing too,Even though i was sad for John Tyree , i am happy that Tim ended up with Savannah

And like everyone says, "Distance relationship never works" not even in a novel
