So good! I read it once to myself and then out loud to my husband immediately after. Yes, it’s that good, you can read it twice all the way through two days in a row.

This is mind altering, really thought provoking. I wouldn’t classify this as religious AT ALL. Makes one stop to really think about what you’re doing in life and what life after death is like for not only you, but the people you touch.

Highly recommend.

I read this wonderful book a couple years ago and recently found it at my library's book sale so I purchased and reread it. This is a beautiful way to think about your purpose here on earth. We are so intimately connected in ways we often never even discover. The slightest action you take can drastically alter both your and someone else's life. In ways, this book is similar to The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho. If you haven't read this, you should definitely take the time to check it out.

Reread and I am in tears. This is always going to be one of the best books I’ve ever read and will read.

I probably would have 5 starred this if I didn't listen to this in the course of 3 hectic exam weeks on audiobook, making me miss like 30% of the narration because my mind was simultaneously going over my presentation lines, but I digress. the audiobook for this was pleasantly dynamic with music, sound effects, voice/accent changes, and then some.

I started reading this story four years ago on a backpack trip across Europe. I remember getting halfway through the book and really enjoying it, on my way to Switzerland, before I committed book blasphemy and lost the book somewhere. I'd like to think someone picked it up and read it and cherished it the way that I never could, with the Swiss Alps as a view as they read it, but realistically speaking it's probably in a landfill somewhere. all this to say that this book has been "on hold" for FOUR FREAKING YEARS and I'm a terrible reader. but I'm here to repent.

“There are no random acts...We are all connected...You can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind...”

Read this book four years ago and I decided to give it a re-read because I remember it ripped me open. In "The Five People You Meet In Heaven" we meet Eddie 50mins before he dies- yes, we basically start at the end with this book. After his death Eddie meets five people, each is connected to his life in someway, however, he doesn't know this until it is explained to him.

What I love about this book is how short and profound it is. We go through life thinking we aren't connected or that we are alone and nothing could be further from the truth. We are all connected in a big way and this book drives this point home beautifully.

A must read!

This came up in conversation the other day and I searched for my original review from 2018 and cannot believe I gave it 2. Though many people love this book I found it genuinely embarrassing to read, poor writing, and the ideas are just fluffy, no real meaning, just the kind of thing your mum would say to you when you're five years old. Corny.

tIt’s interesting seeing how heaven is perceived in someone else’s eyes. I do believe there is an afterlife of some sort, but I don’t know what exactly lies there. I think the concept presented in this book in which you meet five people that in one way or another shaped your life or are interconnected to you is clever. Furthermore, they explain to you about your purpose, destiny, and their involvement in you. This made me think about how it is true, there are many circumstances which affect your life. Every action made affects someone else and vice versa. This would be an ideal “end” (or a new beginning) to someone’s life, especially if the person feels useless or felt as if they lived without a purpose. In my opinion, this would be a pleasant way to receive closure. In addition to that, you may have unanswered questions and it would be great if they would be answered. Sometimes we wonder about certain life events and seek answers, but only to find they aren’t able to be resolved. Hearing someone else’s point of view on why you should feel worthy and loved is very much enlightening.

tThe writing in this novel was structured well and was very direct. I wish more books had this style of writing. I was satisfied by how the life events that occurred in Eddie’s life were explained. You could really feel as if it you were living them alongside of him. At least that is how I felt. Whether if they were tragic or happy moments, they were realistic. Everyone has a life story and in some way we’re interconnected to each other. The life events of everyone may not be as extreme as his (or may be worse), but I think they're just as significant. I can easily say that this is a therapeutic novel that will help a person who is filled with sadness and feelings of unworthiness feel better. It surely made me feel great and refreshed afterwards! This is also a short book which can be read in a small amount of time (depending on the person), so this can easily be one of those “read again” novels. I also heard Mitch Albom’s novel “Tuesdays with Morrie” is another well written book too, so I will be checking that one out sometime. I am highly impressed by this book and author. Every life matters and we are all here for a reason.

“Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious, you’re not really losing it. You’re just passing it on to someone else.”

Have there been any situations where you have no idea why a certain result occurred throughout your life? Reading this book can definitely help you answer these kinda questions.  This book deals with the life story of Eddie, an 83-year-old who dies and goes to heaven. It also shows how many threads are used to weave the quilt of life.

There is such meaning in this book that will leave everyone wondering how his or her personal heaven will be. I was delighted by the author's progression through the five characters while including real-life occurrences. The tone of the writing is distinct. It's not hefty, but it's also not light. You won't tear buckets, and you won't be unaffected by the characters' suffering. The plot is non-linear, and it jumps back and forth depending on who Eddie encounters in heaven. The opening sequence starts at the end, announcing Eddie's death, and then jumps forward in time to the beginning of the day, with Eddie's birthday celebrations in the present tense. Each section depicts how his life changed from year to year. It also has a sequel called "The next person you meet in heaven", looking forward to reading that soon.

It will affect the way you think about life after death and the meaning of lives on this planet. Every action you take and every interaction you have has an effect on others.

My takeaway is that we should be intentional in our interactions with people in order to improve the world.
