Ich bin mir nicht sicher, welche Altersgruppe Isabel Allende ansprechen will. Der Anfang war recht gut geschrieben, aber je weiter das Buch voran ging, desto mehr hatte ich den Eindruck, dass sie merkt, dass sie für Kinder oder Jugendliche schreibt. Einige Sachen waren übertrieben genau erklärt. Besonders im letzten Drittel hatte ich das Gefühl, sie will noch soviel "reinpacken" und dann wurde es auch etwas brutaler, wo ich dachte, es ist doch ein Kinderbuch. So deutlich brauche ich das jetzt nicht. Alles in allem konnte manchmal der Eindruck entstehen, dass mehrere Leute dieses Buch geschrieben haben.
Der Anfang war gut, die Idee der Geschichte auch, aber da gibt es bessere Jugendbücher, denen man das nicht anmerkt. Dieses Schwanken zwischen den Begriffen (Schamane und Zauberer oder Bestie und Gott zum Beispiel) passte meiner Meinung nach nicht. Entweder ist es das eine oder das andere. Trotzdem werde ich wohl noch irgendwann Band 2 und 3 lesen.

Es una historia muy entretenida, llena lugares fantásticos y exóticos, desbordados de magia.
La pluma de Isabel es preciosa, describe los lugares de forma tan especial, mes lo que más destaco del libro.

كم سمعت باسم هذا الكتاب ، لكنني لم اتصور ان ايزابيل الليندي هي الكاتبه ، رغم انني احبها و احب اسلوبها ، لكن هذا الكتاب هو ليس بجودة ما سبق و قرأت لها ، هنا الكثير من السحر ، و الكثير من الخيال .
انا احب الواقع ، التاريخ ، لذلك لم يعجبني كثيرا ، بالاضافه الى طول السرد الممل في بعض اجزاء الكتاب .
دائما ما كنت اتساءل ، لماذا البعض من شعوب العالم المتقدم " كما يطلقون على انفسهم " ينصبون انفسهم حماة للاقليات ، الذين عاشوا حياتهم بسلام و امن طيله منذ وجودهم ، من سمح لهم بتسميم حياتهم ، بغزوهم بتكنولوجيا لا تناسبهم ، الم يعلموا انهم يدمرون حياتهم ، بنشرهم قصصا عنهم في مجلاتهم و اعلامهم ، يجعلون العديد من جامعي الثروات ، يهاجمونهم و يقتلونهم ببرود ، فتنتهي هذه الجماعات ، بوقت قصير من معرفة العالم لهم ، و هذا ما يقدمه من يسمون نفسهم بالباحثين و المصورين .
هنا جاب الكسندر الامازون مع جدته ، لم يعلم بان هذه الرحلة ، ستخلق منه رجلا واسع الافق ، قادر على مواجهة المستقبل ، هو و صديقته الرائعه ناديا سانتوس ، كانا خير عون لبعضهما ، و جزءا مهما في اكتشاف الحقيقه ، و مساعدة هنود الضباب و انقاذهم من باحثين العالم المتقدم .

Me gustó mucho el libro, una lectura muy amena, lo recomiendo mucho, un libro de aventuras y enseñanza, dónde se ve que los personajes cambian mucho en poco tiempo y las experiencias pueden venir en momentos menos esperados.

Aldo this is a young adult novel for teenagers from 14 years and up, this book is a literair thriller witch only Isabel Allende could put down on to paper.
A young boy/man travels with his grandmother (who wants to be called Kate) to the Amazon. Their part of a group travelling for National Georaphic. They meet up with Nadia the daughter of the guide of the group. Not all attendees of the group have the best intrest for the forest and its inhabitants. And Alex and Nadia discover the deep secrets of themselfs and this forest inhabitants. Who is friend or are the all enemy's?

#TheCityoftheBeasts by #IsabelAllende. I read it when I was in elementary school and felt I hadn't appreciated it enough, so I decided to reread it a few days ago, and what a lovely surprise I had.

Alexander Cold is sent to spend time with his grandmother Kate while his mom undergoes treatment for a very aggressive cancer. Kate is a reporter and writer for the International Geographic magazine, and she takes Alex to the Amazon to document "The Beast" - a kind of Yeti that lives in the jungle. During the expedition, Alex meets Nadia, the guide's daughter, and they form a beautiful friendship, becoming an unstoppable team. Together, they face mysteries and magical discoveries in the jungle.

I consider the most beautiful aspects of the book to be 1) seeing Alex's character growth and 2) the way Isabel Allende describes the indigenous cultures that the children encounter as the story progresses.

a Alexander Cold lo envían a pasar una temporada con su abuela Kate mientras que a su mamá la tratan de un cáncer muy agresivo. Kate es reportera y escritora de la revista International Geographic, y se lleva a Alex al Amazonas porque tiene documentar sobre "La Bestia" -una especie de Yeti pero que vive en la selva. Dentro del grupo que va a la expedición, Alex conoce a Nadia, la hija del guía, y entre los dos forman una amistad muy bonita y se vuelven un equipo imparable; juntos se enfrentan a misterios y a descubrimientos mágicos dentro de la selva. 
Considero que lo más bonito del libro es 1) ver como crece el personaje de Alex y 2) la forma en la que Isabel Allende describe las culturas indígenas que los niños van conociendo conforme avanza la historia

Novela juvenil cargada de aventuras cuya trama es la perfecta excusa para acercarnos al mundo de los indígenas en Hispanoamérica.

El profesor Leblanc representa esa visión del indio, que todavía perdura entre algunos, como ser salvaje, violento, caníbal, de tradiciones y cultura inferiores y demás repertorio de la época de los conquistadores.
Sin embargo, a través de múltiples personajes se desbarata esa visión arcaica.

Los dos niños protagonistas son el contrapunto a todos aquellos personajes que quieren eliminar a los indios para explotar el Amazonas o que los ven como seres inferiores, pues en todas las aventuras que experimentan su mayor regalo viene del contacto con los indígenas y de poder integrarse y conocer sus costumbres. Con todo, creo que a veces estos personajes y los demás que defienden la causa indígena caen en una suerte de paternalismo desde el que no son conscientes de que rebajan al indio a ser alguien aniñado, inocente, que hay que decidir por él en este mundo tan moderno porque ellos siguen con sus ritos y su religión ligada a la naturaleza. Es decir, que continuamos con otro de los mitos sobre los indios, esta vez en lugar de la época colonial o imperial, ya pasamos a la decimonónica.

La narración de esas aventuras permite a Isabel Allende mostrar en cada capítulo una especie de documental acerca de la vida, rutina, cultura, saber indígena en el Amazonas. Con esa parte descriptiva del día a día, hay momentos en que la acción se ve demasiado postergada a un segundo lugar y la lectura resulta un poco renqueante. Sin embargo, con el final queda compensada toda la lentitud de más de la mitad de la historia.

Creo que de lo mejor del libro es la evolución de los dos niños, se vuelven dos personas nobles, honradas, con la mente abierta a otras culturas, tolerantes y defensores de las causas justas. El realismo mágico está presente en toda esa evolución, dejando borrosas las barreras entre lo que aprendieron por ser real y lo que aprendieron por ser maravilloso o mágico.

تأخذنا إيزابيل برحلة مدهشة مليئة بالعجائب مع أليكس، والذي بعد مرض أمه الشديد واضطرار والده لأخذها لمشفى بعيد، توجب عليه أن يذهب ليقيم مع جدته "كات" المجنونة على حد تعبيرهم والتي تستعد حاليا للذهاب مع فريق كامل في رحلة استكشافية للأمازون لاكتشاف "البهيمة" (مخلوق أسطوري) وكتابة مقال عنها، وسيتوجب عليه أن يذهب معها.

تواجه أليكس وجدته وفريق الاستكشاف العديد من المخاطر والمغامرات أثناء الرحلة المليئة بالمعاني والدروس وكل ما هو ساحر ومدهش. وأهمها تواصلهم مع القبائل الهندية القديمة (السكان الأصليين) وتعرفهم عليهم وعلى عاداتهم وطقوسهم ومعايشتها، وتعرّفهم بشكل أكبر على معاناتهم جرّاء التوسّع والجشع.

وكالعادة لا تفوّت إيزابيل أي مشهد حتى تجعلك تشعر به وكأنك متواجد فيه، ولا تقصّر في توظيف أي تعبير وأي وصف قد يساهم في إثارة خيالك لحد النشوة..

This book was first published in 2002 so it has been around for quite a while, but I had never encountered it although I have read other books by Isabel Allende. The book seems primarily directed toward a young adult audience, of which I meet only the second word in that description.

The two main characters are teenagers Alexander and Nadia. When Alexander's mother becomes quite ill, he is sent to New York to stay with his grandmother, Kate. She is a magazine reporter who is irascible and tough-minded, not qualities that one would normally associate with the word "grandmother." She had been planning a trip to the Amazon to search for a gigantic legendary creature known only as the Beast and to encounter the lost tribes who live in that region. Now, she'll be taking Alexander along with her.

The local guide for the trip into the Amazon has a teenage daughter named Nadia, and she and Alex quickly bond. Other members of the expedition include an anthropologist, a doctor, and a local entrepreneur. Pretty soon we come to suspect that not all of these people are pure of heart and at least one may have ulterior motives.

Once in the Amazon, a local tribe known as the People of the Mists take Alexander and Nadia and they travel with them through jungle, mountains, and caves. The two young people get an education in what it is like to live as primitive hunter-gatherers.

Alexander and Nadia are presented as remarkably rational thinkers who are able to reason things out and come to logical solutions to problems. In this regard, they are more adept than many of the adults around them.

This apparently was the first in a trilogy featuring these characters. I enjoyed it quite a bit and, at some point, would not be averse to reading the other two books, but I already have a full reading list and they will just have to take their place in the queue.
