Me gustó mucho más que el segundo. Fue mucho más dinámico y al grano...

Libro fácil e infantil. Tiene partes buenas pero al final todas se estropean, resolviéndose de una forma previsible.

Questo è il primo libro della Allende che leggo e ne sono rimasta davvero impressionata. Purtroppo ho iniziato dal volume finale di una trilogia e questo ha intaccato un po' il mio entusiasmo. In ogni caso la scrittrice è stata piuttosto brava nel non far pesare la cosa.

L'inizio si apre con una scenetta divertente che riesce a catturare la mia attenzione: un elefante fa cadere di proposito un ragazzo in una pozza d'acqua poiché geloso di lui. Che dire, cara Allende hai decisamente la mia attenzione. Mi piacciono le scenette divertenti, danno quella leggerezza giusta senza risultare troppo banale o forzata.
I personaggi principali sono favolosi, hanno il loro carattere e lo rispettano, anche se i secondari sono stati trascurati durante la narrazione. Borobà mi rammenta la piccola scimmietta del film Disney, e come con Abu è impossibile non amarla. Il personaggio di Kate è il mio preferito: quella dolce nonnina sempre in moto che beve vodka, tira fuori delle frasi pazzesche utilizzando il sarcasmo ("Il proprio credo si chiama religione, quello degli altri superstizione" è solo uno dei tanti esempi) che restano incise e insegnano il rispetto verso il prossimo e la sua identità culturale e non.

Le descrizioni del paesaggio africano sono molto belle e non annoiano così come la trascrizione della routine ( la scenetta con i leoni nell'accampamento e la liberazione di mamma gorilla e piccolo sono bellissime); antichi riti, miti e leggende si intrecciano al reale e creano suggestione in chi legge. Una delle parti che ho preferito maggiormente è quando Alexander e Nadia diventano un tutt'uno col mondo. Non ci sono parole per descrivere abbastanza bene la morale di quel viaggio spirituale se non quelle stesse dell'autrice: "Le infinite anime, così come ogni cosa nell'universo, non sono che componenti di un unico spirito, come gocce d'acqua di uno stesso oceano. Una sola essenza spirituale anima ciò che esiste. Non c'è separazione tra gli esseri, né frontiera tra la vita e la morte."

In breve, è un libro adatto a un pubblico giovane, da leggere assolutamente non solo per svagarsi dalla routine quotidiana ma anche per riflettere.

Best trilogy ever tbh

Just really didn't like the way this book was written.

This is the final book in the “Memories of the Eagle and the Jaguar” trilogy and like the other two, “City of the Beasts” and “Kingdom of the Golden Dragon”, is excellent. There are adventures galore and you never know what is going to happen next. It’s all very exciting.

Kate Cold is an adventurer and travel writer for the International Graphic magazine and she seems to be sent to the most remote parts of the world (the Amazon and a forbidden kingdom hidden away in the Himalayas, as already experienced in the other two books).

She invites her grandson Alexander Cold, a fifteen year old boy from California, to go on the trip with her in the first book where he meets Brazilian Nadia Santos (who can talk to most wild animals) and who has her black monkey called Borobá sitting on her shoulder most of the time. The monkey can get very jealous. Alexander and Nadia soon become great friends and go on a second adventure and this is their final one with Kate.

It is based in Kenya where Kate plans to write an article for her magazine about the first elephant-led safaris in Africa.

Well, they meet a catholic missionary, Brother Fernando, who persuades the pilot Angie (the plane is called Super Hawk and is a Cessna Caravan) to take him to look for some lost friends. She rather stupidly agrees to this with Alexander et al. Regrettably, the plane crashes and then they come across a group of Pygmies and …

Well I leave it to you to read this fascinating book!

This book is for young adults, however, I believe it is for all ages.

I just hate how Nadia Santos has to leave her home, her father and friends to live with a stranger in the USA to get a “good education“. Also it is super uncomfortable how her changing body is constantly described and emphasised how she is now turning into this curvy woman. How women are described is also an issue with this book, lots of fat-shaming and ageism used for jokes...
ALSO I hate that Nadia Santos gives up her dreams and studys at the same university as Alexander, just so he can still eat at home? This is just so wrong...

Η Αλιέντε έχει το τρόπο της να μας προσφέρει ωραία μυθιστορήματα. Ετσι λοιπόν ένα άλλο ενδιαφέρον μυθιστόρημα οικολογικού περιεχομένου. Δεν φτάνει στα επίπεδα των άλλων έργων της συγγραφέως αλλά περνάς ευχάριστα κάποιες ώρες ανάγνωσης

Por fin he encontrado el momento de decir adiós a una trilogía que me ha acompañado desde que tenía 12 años. Leí los dos primeros libros en el colegio, e incluso los releí varias veces en años posteriores, pero nunca parecía tener tiempo para conocer el desenlace de esta trilogía cargada de magia, amistad y valores.
No ha sido el libro que más me ha gustado de los tres. Lo he visto algo flojo, y pienso que con unas 100 páginas más, podría haberse desarrollado más la historia, con un mayor deleite de la narrativa sencilla y embaucadora de la autora. Me ha faltado también un poco de las dosis de magia que había en los libros anteriores, aunque enseguida me vi sumergida en los bosques africanos, intentando imaginar su olor y color, tal y como quedan descritos.
En general, ha sido un libro que he disfrutado y que me ha transportado a los primeros años de mi adolescencia, cuando conocí a Águila y a Jaguar por primera vez. Y de nuevo me ha maravillado la forma de hacer converger la magia y el encanto y misticismo de culturas olvidadas con temas tan actuales y retorcidos que ponen de manifiesto la cara más oscura del ser humano. En definitiva es una lectura (la de la trilogía entera) muy recomendada para jóvenes lectores, y no tan jóvenes.
