They never sat up all night with Trouble, Peter Piper used to say.

And I told him they were quite right. If you make a fuss over trouble and put it to bed and nurse it and give it beef tea and gruel, you can never get rid of it. - Queen Crosspatch

Super cute, short, illustrated children's book about a bunch of dolls that come to life, written by the author of one of my favorite classics of all time, The Secret Garden. I wish most of her books weren't out of print and so hard to track down. I found my copy of Racketty Packetty House at a library book sale.

I read this with my 3 and 4 year old and they actually liked it quite a bit. I don't think most preschoolers would, however. I think it has a broader appeal perhaps for the 8 or 9 year old girl who is interested in old-fashioned stories. I thought it was pretty sweet, but it is definitely old-fashioned. The illustrations are delightful!

A happy tale of an old doll house and the importance of always staying positive. I really enjoyed this short fairy tale.

It is such a cute little story about a dollhouse that fell into disorder because it wasn't taken care of, and a doll family living in it. The narrator is a fairy queen who likes the family because they are always so happy and jolly and glad.
The owner of the dollhouse gets another, "better" doll house with new, finer dolls, and she likes this house better, and the old house is in danger of getting burned. (Even though it was her grandmother's and she got it from the queen... oh my!)

I learned about this tiny, old-fashioned children's book after reading The Snow Child and doing some googling. It is adorable, the illustrations more so than the story.
