Wer hätte gedacht dass Mangas so spannend, clever und gut durchdacht sein können?
Vor Death Note, hätte ich keinen Manga in die Hand genommen, mit der Annahme dass es sich um Kinderliteratur handelt. Glücklicherweise hat mich diese Reihe eines Besseren belehrt.

L Looks like a druggie to me

Releer este manga después de unos años y con más conocimiento de psicología encima hace que esta nueva lectura tenga un sabor diferente. Es increíble como los años hacen que uno cambie (madure) y también se cambien las posturas ideológicas y éticas. En mi caso cuando me acerqué por primera vez a esta historia a través del anime y luego al manga, yo estaba más de parte de Light que de L, y de hecho compartía la visión de Light de limpieza del mundo. Pero ahora con 10 años más encima no digo que estoy de parte de L, sino que comprendo que ambos son dos caras de la misma moneda y que el hecho de que L quiera atrapar a Kira no pasa por su código ético de justicia sino por las mismas razones que Light no quiere ser atrapado: no quiere perder. Eso mismo lo menciona L en este tomo, afirma que Kira tiene un carácter pueril y que no le gusta perder, y que eso lo sabe porque él mismo es así. Light y su idea de liberar al mundo de los criminales no encuentra su motivación en la justicia sino en su propio ego. No lo hace porque es un paladín de la justicia sino porque es un psicópata narcisista que busca que a futuro lo adoren como un dios. Es por eso que ya al final del primer tomo y a lo largo del segundo, sus objetivos empiezan a torcerse cuando se ve acorrolado o provocado por L, y rompe con su patrón de matar solo criminales y no le tiembla el pulso cuando tiene que matar 12 agentes del FBI.

Es realmente admirable el manejo psicológico que Ohba tiene de los personajes. Ya sabemos que Light es psicópata y además padece del trastorno de personalidad narcisista en su modo grandioso, se cree el mejor en todo y quizás en algunas áreas lo es, pero en el fondo no deja de ser un pobre tipo con necesidad de atención. L por otro lado puede considerarse también un psicopáta, posee un alto grado de inteligencia, no es sociable, la empatía que muestra a veces es díficil de determinar y su comportamiento en general es excéntrico. Se dice que la intención de Ohba fue que L estuviera dentro del espectro de Asperger y quizás eso explicaría muchas de sus conductas excéntricas. Lo cierto es que tanto Light como L a pesar de ser enemigos tienen mucho más en común de lo que ellos creen y es justamente en ese juego de competencia, rivalidad y provocación y como ambos reaccionan es cuando uno se da cuenta que ninguno busca justicia de verdad sino que están jugando un simple juego a ver quien es más ingenioso y quien le pisa la cola a quien.

Death Note en su segundo tomo introduce un personaje más que interesante a pesar de su breve intervencion: Naomi Misora, la prometida de Ray Penbar el agente del FBI que investiga a Light. Es interesante como se genera un intertexto si se quiere y que en el momento que el manga fue publicado quizás no estaba pensado, ya que Naomi Misora es uno de los personajes principales de la novela en la que junto a L investiga el caso de un asesino serial en Los Ángeles. El hecho de que un personaje que aparece de manera tan breve deje una marca tan notoria habla más que bien de la manera que los autores construyeron la historia y sus actores.

Sin dudas, una de las joyitas del manga.

Fast-paced and exciting! Only wish there were more female characters.. I mean, Naomi was good but she is gone now(( And I loved L! Such an eccentric guy))) Raito is becoming boring and hateful. I liked Ryuuku, however.

Things get even darker in this second volume, and it's so hard to decide whose side I'm really on! We get to actually meet L in this one - he's a bit strange (very young for a brilliant detective) but also incredibly intriguing. I loved seeing L and Light trying to outsmart each other - each thinking that they're getting the upper hand, but neither quite actually managing to do it. L is definitely getting closer to figuring out who Kira really is, though.

This volume also gives us a new adversary for Light - Naomi, the fiance of the FBI agent who was tailing Light. She's smart, and seeing how Light deals with that is ... interesting.

Overall, a great read!

Wir lernen L kennen

The writing is crisp and the pacing remains consistently solid all throughout the volume. The strategies between the opposing sides L and Light is really something worth reading, two geniuses who'd never let down their guard but also both on a relentless but calculated dash to defeat the other.

Too good perhaps, that the characterization between L and Light becomes weirdly similar, both think exactly alike and both are crazy genius teenswho think that what they are doing is right.

Sadly, the volume also gives the readers a crude insight as to how suicide is deeply immersed in the Japanese society. Death Note, no matter how smart it is written gives out a pessimistic tone on how it views people in general.

Weiter ging es ebenfalls mit Verbrechern und Psychos im zweiten Teil von Death Note, Vereinigung. In diesem Band bekommt man wesentlich mehr von Ls Perspektive mit und erkennt die Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen ihm und seinem Kontrahenten immer deutlicher. Sie sind Fanatisten auf zwei Seiten derselben Medaille, nur basiert eine davon auf Legalität und die andere auf Selbstjustiz. Das macht die Dynamik zwischen den beiden noch viel interessanter und man kann es kaum erwarten, bis sich die beiden Meister der Scharade mal gegenüberstehen :3
Außerdem bekommt Light auch von anderer Seite Konkurrenz, nämlich Naomi, der Frau, deren Mann durch seine Hand gestorben ist. Als ehemalige FBI-Agentin ist sie alles andere als dumm, und oh mein Gott, dieser Lauf gegen die Zeit, in denen er innerhalb von 10 Minuten (!) ihren Namen herausfinden muss, um sich ihrer zu entledigen, sind die bisher spannendsten aus der ganzen Reihe! Das stellt alles, selbst wie Light seine eigene polizeiliche Beobachtung außer Kraft setzt, in den Schatten

More of the same, and that's no surprise.

When I bought the first, I bought this one too, and my confidence wasn't misplaced. Unlike the first one, I took my time with this one, working through (in effect, an issue at a time).

Given the title, it's hard to suggest that this is morbid stuff (or that it's too morbid), but ... even at its most creative, it's pretty darn dark.

It's way too early to know if I'll stay interested through all 12 issues, but I'm relatively confident I'll keep going at this point.

Magnífica continuación de la historia. Mientras L reúne al un grupo reducido de investigadores, Light continúa pensando como ir por delante de la policía. La partida sigue. Con ganas de leer el tercero.
