Now this was cute. I enjoyed the original trilogy and to now read about the twins who are cute ornery otters, I have to say, I'm hooked. Fast read and very enjoyable.

This book sounded like a nice change of pace: space travel, planet-forming, and people changing into seals. Unfortunately I do not feel that the author(s) did a good job with this, or perhaps I wasn't their target audience. The book was not well-written, and I now suppose it was meant for children.

On the plus side, the concept of a planet with consciousness was interesting. On the minus side, the dialogue, reactions, and emotions portrayed were shallow and unrealistic.

Honestly, the third star is out of loyalty to Anne McCaffrey, whom I know wasn't responsible for the mediocrity.
I like the world of Petaybee, but this book grated so much on my nerves! The endless repetitions of everything's name, and the general feeling of things being dumbed down... It was just super annoying.

First off, take a look at that cover.... looks to me like those are two adults on that book wouldn't you say? Well the book is about two children. It was still an interesting book/concept, but it was on a different level than I was expecting since I thought it was about two adult siblings, not two pre-teen children.

Its been a long time since i read the original Petaybee series. You dont really eed to have read them to read this book. It explains stuff enough for you.

I ddnt think this was bad book, I didnt think it was spectacular either. When you met the twins school mates and the Ke-ola kid when he described about where his people were originally from I figured out pretty quick what would be happening there.

But i do love to read about the various worlds AM has created characters in so this was a nice read.
I have the following two books (borrowed them all from the library on the same day). So should be able get those read soon - though I do have about 8 other book I need to read as well. heh

A nice story. It isn't as deep or complex as McCaffrey's Pern novels, but it has a unique storyline and was entertaining. I am probably going to read the rest of the series.

An exciting story about twins with a special ability that must be kept secret. It was reminiscent of some of the Disney sitcoms I used to watch, or the Australian show H2O: Just Add Water.

Not terrible. A little simple; I thought there would be more detail about the sentient planet. And the cover was a bit deceiving. I thought the two humans on the cover were the twins; if that was the case, they're much, much younger in the book than portrayed on the cover. I suspect perhaps those were supposed to be their parents instead? I know "never judge a book by its cover" but first impressions are important and I certainly was expecting a pair of adult twins.

There was also a few typos involving whether the big cats - Coaxtl and Nanook - were male or female (the first few chapters kept switching it around until the authors seemed to settle on female) and that sort of shoddy lack of attention to detail rankles me. If I, who had never read it, caught it immediately, what was their editor doing? Maybe this is addressed in a later edition; the one I read was the first edition, printed in 2006.

However, it caught me up enough that I'm interested in what happens to the kids in the second book.

This is a fast-action adventure of twin Silkies birth and adventures. It is almost too fast and filled with action to be realistic, and unlike many of the authors, other books don't have the depth or philosophy displayed in her other books. It is still an excellent escape science fiction book.
