Bay Capote ile yıldızımız bir türlü barışmıyor. Birçok kişinin ayılıp bayıldığı Tiffany'de Kahvaltı'yı da ben çok sevmemiştim. Kadın karakterlerinin yüzeysel olmasından şikayetçiyim açıkçası. Kitapların kısalığına veremiyorum bu yüzeyselliği, ne ince kitaplar okuduk karakterleri gayet sağlam oluşturulmuş. Bu kitapta da ana karakter kadın olmasına rağmen, erkek karakterlerin duygu dünyaları daha derin irdelenmişti. İlk defa tatilini ailesinden ayrı geçirecek olan güzel Grady, otoparkta çalışan yakışıklı Clyde'la daha rahat zaman geçirebileceği için sevinçlidir. Ancak heyecanla beklediği tatil, bir sürprizle son bulacaktır. Konusu da pek etkileyici değil, gördüğünüz gibi. İki kitap, hakkında yorum yapabilmek için yeterli bilgiyi verir kanısındayım. Sevenlerine keyifli okumalar dilerim. =)

Después de leerla acabando el final con una leve lectura en diagonal, me quedo con la sensación de que el autor literalmente se aburrió de la obra y por eso la dejó inacabada.
La primera mitad de la obra es la que tiene más energía, con una escritura fluida, ubicando bien los personajes, hablando de una manera fabulosa de los pormenores de la vida de la gente con dinero, y haciendo que te quieras sumergir en la historia e interesarte por lo que va pasando. Pero a medida que vas adentrándote en la segunda mitad va perdiendo fuelle a pasos agigantados, y da la sensación de ser un borrador de un principiante.

Cortísimo pero de una intensidad brutal. Me ha gustado mucho pese a que ha habido momentos que me parecieron duros.

Summer Crossings was written before Capote's first published book, Other Voices, Other Rooms. The manuscript was discovered postmortem when Sotheby's received never before published papers and a manuscript from the nephew of Capote's previous house sitters. Sotheby's informed the Truman Capote Literary Trust that Truman had instructed the house sitter that he wouldn't be returning to the apartment and to throw all his remaining possessions in the trash. It's uncertain whether TC wanted the novella published (in my mind if he wanted it thrown in the trash the answer seems clear).

Although it's a novella, it took me a bit to embrace, but it crept in and made itself at home. As I was reading I kept thinking of Breakfast at Tiffany's. The understated strength? It ended unexpectedly, which like any good work of literature, makes you linger and think. long after the characters are gone.

a lovely little novel, capote’s first, which was undiscovered until after his death. it’s evident even in this work, (which while imperfect, has a character and life force all of its own) that this is a writer who evokes masterfully the atmosphere of the beginning of a life coming into itself. gorgeous writing style. 3.75 stars

Summer Crossing by Truman Capote is set in 1940 New York City . Taken place during post-World War II. The story starts during one summer, in Manhattan and moved through various places around New York City. The novel follows Grady McNeil, a wealthy 17-year-old socialite, who decides to stay in the city while her family vacations in Europe. Her independence leads her into a romance with Clyde Manzer, a working-class Jewish parking attendant. The novel tells of the themes of class, identity, and desire against the summer heat of 1940s New York. Strong character development. Whirlwind romance not only between a 17 yo and 23 yo working class Jewish man. Romance outside of social classes made it more tempting, daring and tantalizing.

Не очаквах да харесам историята толкова много, поради сравненията със “Закуска в Тифани”, която не ме заинтригува достатъчно. Дали заради героите и младата любов или заради красивите описания на Ню-Йорк, не съм сигурна напълно, но четенето на тези 115 страници ми доставиха истинско удоволствие. Усетих лепкавата жега на града, разходиш се из Сентрал парк, 5-то авеню и Бруклин.

Грейди Макнийл е дръзка, богата, безгрижна 17 годишна девойка, която не се съобразява с правилата. Тя обича да кара буика си, да пуши, да танцува и няма никакво желание да дебютира в обществото. Вместо да замине с родителите си на пътуване из Европа тя избира да остане и да прекара лятото в Ню-Йорк. Причината е само една - любовта и то с неподходящото момче.

От самото начало усещах, че нещо ще се случи и напрежението ме държа до финалната сцена…

Красива история за любовта и съзряването. Радвам се, че дадох втори шанс на Капоти.

Uma leitura muito leve, rápida e concisa. Veio como uma lufada de ar fresco no meio das minhas outras leituras, apresenta-nos num curto espaço de tempo um cenário, uma envolvencia e uma evolução na história muito notável. Com poucas personagens, e muito parecido com o sucesso do autor "Breakfast at Tiffany's" passa-se num ambiente tipicamente Nova-iorquino e mistura várias faixas sociais. Como nos é dado a conhecer no fim isto é uma obra póstuma, um guião muito jovem na escrita de Truman e que embora não esteja perfeito, nos dá um deslumbre do que ele viria a ser, com uma escrita desde já deslumbrante. Recomendo a qualquer um que já tenha lido algo de Truman ou até mesmo para se iniciarem na leitura do autor, embora continue a gostar mais de uma das suas obras primas, o "Breakfast at Tiffany's"

This is an interesting artifact. It is juvenilia; it's interesting as an imperfect proto-novel. It's a quick read, and the afterword might just be the best part of the book as it gives some insight into Capote.

Un romanzo che iniziò a scrivere a soli 19 anni, a cui continuò a lavorare per un decennio, ma che non volle mai pubblicare.
E poi?
E poi ,per caso, è stato ritrovato nella sua vecchia casa di Brooklyn, tra lettere e scartoffie, scritto a mano su dei quaderni ...
e quindi pubblicato ,solo pochi anni fa !
Romanzo giovanile, dunque, anche per tematiche,
che racconta l'incontro d'estate ,in una New York afosa e affascinante, tra Grady e Clyde.Grady è una ragazza viziata, ribelle, con la smania di crescere e di fare nuove esperienze di una impulsiva diciassettenne,Clyde è più grande, ha 23 anni,è un veterano di guerra, uno che sbarca il lunario come posteggiatore , con l'aria da duro , più esperto, ma in fondo...
Romanzo acerbo?
Forse.
Ma non nella scrittura, molto piacevole , affilata, esatta, sicura ,già matura .
Altro protagonista della storia Peter, l'amico d'infanzia di Grady (a me è piaciuta molto la descrizione della loro complicità :) )

Lasciarono che nella stanza calasse l'oscurità:la superficie morbida e flessibile delle loro voci si muoveva e sospirava attorno a loro, e anche se dicevano cose del tutto prive d'importanza era già tanto che potessero usare le stesse parole, applicare gli stessi valori.Grady disse :" Da quanto tempo mi conosci,Peter?"
E Peter : "Da quella volta che mi facesti piangere: eravamo a una festa di compleanno e tu mi rovesciasti un sacco di gelato e di torta sul vestitino alla marinara.Oh eri una bambina molto cattiva."
"Sono diversa adesso? Tu sei sicuro di vedermi come sono in realtà?"
"No" ,disse lui, ridendo,"e nemmeno lo vorrei."
"Perché potrei non piacerti?"
"Se pretendessi di vederti come sei in realtà vorrebbe dire che ti ho liquidata, che ti trovo noiosa e senza spessore"
