I really enjoyed this book, almost couldn't put it down to see how the story developed next. However, I think it's a bit of a misnomer to call this mystery--and probably too tame for thriller. I don't think the author gives the reader enough clues to figure out the solution; it's more like following the hero-detective and hero-lawyer around the scene until they arrive (somewhat unexpectedly, in my opinion) at the solution.

I have read several in this series by Margaret Truman. They tend to have pop culture versions of feminist thinking in the lead characters, which I have my misgivings about. This one in particular is good for its attention to locational detail.

I enjoy this series and I've been to Ford's Theatre a long time ago. It brought back a lot of memories of that trip and how wonderful it was.

Mac is coerced into defending the son of a sitting senator and the director of Ford's theater. The DA was convinced he'd murdered a girl behind the theatre, but the cops weren't convinced.

This was a long read. I skipped over various lengthy descriptions and still took me a long time to read. Not a page turner. There were a few twists at the end which redeemed the story.

Good suspense with some history about Lincoln and the theater the night he was murdered.

(Read by Richard Allan)

Just as the title says, we must figure out the murderer is before he kills the main character.

As always, the last hundred pages seems to be where the action is.

I kept waiting for some action and mystery... and then it did not come. The other Capital Crimes book (Murder at the Smithsonian; Library of Congress) had a lot more intrigue. I did like the many DC references, but those are in all of her books...

This is an enjoyable Capital Crimes Mystery by Harry Truman's daughter Margaret. There are many suspects--some possibilities presenting even at the end of the book. Thus you are kept guessing until the end. It also has two of my favorite recurring characters featured in a number of these books--Mac Smith and his wife, Annabelle. It is always fun to be presented with Washington DC historical facts.

As advertised on the tin: there's a murder. At Ford's Theater. Protagonist? Less plucky. Additional Colorful Characters? Sure. CAN YOU SOLVE THE MYSTERY? Mostly.

I've read several from this Capital Crimes series and they have all been good, rating 4 or 5 stars. This one only rates 3 stars from me. It wasn't bad, just not as interesting or challenging to figure out. I did like the two cop characters that are introduced...they carry most of the first half of the book before the recurring lawyer/law professor and his wife enter the story. It's still a good read, just not as exciting as her others.
