Another behind the scenes in Washington DC mystery from Ms. Truman. I've read a lot of them and don't intend to miss any as they are released. Read in 2006.
Read it a long time ago. Actually for foreigners it's nice to read a thriller with history background. I did not realize it's a series until now! And even more surprisingly, the author is a first daughter, wow! I think I am going to read through the series before I have a chance to visit Washington DC.
This was all right, not earth shattering or anything, but readable. The reason I only gave it 3 is because it was totally predictable. I knew who did it and why within about 3 chapters... and the end was a bit of a let down. I've started another one of hers, we'll see how it compares.
All the characters in this book knew something about Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth. The book starts with a murder at Ford's Theatre's back door. Solving the murder uses history as a back drop. Read it and see if you knew all the history.
There are point-blank descriptions of characters that fall into classic archetypes. And the book is full of rich detail on the Washington and arts milieu. I especially appreciated how facts about Lincoln's life and death were made apropos through various characters. However, I found the story itself serviceable; there were several plausible suspects to keep me guessing, but not much action or twists. Not my type of read.
