Stephen William Hawking was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author who was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge. Between 1979 and 2009, he was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge, widely viewed as one of the most prestigious academic posts in the world.
Hawking was born in Oxford into a family of physicians. In October 1959, at the age of 17, he began his university education at University College, Oxford, where he received a first-class BA degree in physics. In October 1962, he began his graduate work at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where, in March 1966, he obtained his PhD degree in applied mathematics and theoretical physics, specialising in general relativity and cosmology. In 1963, at age 21, Hawking was diagnosed with an early-onset slow-progressing form of motor neurone disease that gradually, over decades, paralysed him. After the loss of his speech, he communicated through a speech-generating device initially through use of a handheld switch, and eventually by using a single cheek muscle.
Hawking's scientific works included a collaboration with Roger Penrose on gravitational singularity theorems in the framework of general relativity, and the theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, often called Hawking radiation. Initially, Hawking radiation was controversial. By the late 1970s, and following the publication of further research, the discovery was widely accepted as a major breakthrough in theoretical physics. Hawking was the first to set out a theory of cosmology explained by a union of the general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. He was a vigorous supporter of the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics.
Hawking achieved commercial success with several works of popular science in which he discussed his theories and cosmology in general. His book A Brief History of Time appeared on the Sunday Times bestseller list for a record-breaking 237 weeks. Hawking was a Fellow of the Royal Society, a lifetime member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States. In 2002, Hawking was ranked number 25 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. He died in 2018 at the age of 76, having lived more than 50 years following his diagnosis of motor neurone disease.

رحلة فيزيائية جميلة من عظيم هذا الكون الى أبسط جزيئاته. شعرت بالأسف حيث أن دراستي الثانوية كانت بالفرع العلمي ومن ثم تخرجت بكالوريوس من كلية علوم ومن ثم تخرجت ماجستيرا من كلية علوم ومع ذلك، فإن معظم المعلومات كانتمعلومات جديدة بالنسبة لي. هي في أساسيات القوانين الكونية وقوانين الفيزياء
وكان من باب أولى تعلم هذه العلوم في المدرسة
على أي حال، كتاب يحتاج الى الكثير من التركيز للفهم ولكنه ممتع جدا ومفيد جدا

هوكنج يشاركنا الدهشة الكون ، مشاركة لا من النوع الذي يريك الكون كانه شيء من السحر فقط -كما يفعل ذلك بعض العلماء ، على حد قوله - بل يقدمه لك مع تفسير للظواهر الاكثر اثارة في الكون .
كيف بدأ الكون ؟ ربما استطاع هوكنج تكوين اجابة واضحة لدينا لهذا السؤال.
لكنه لم يجب عن سؤال مساو له في الصميمية : لماذا وجد الكون ؟! ليبقى هذا السؤال مفتوحا ينتظر حتى يجيب عنه لورنس كراوس في كتابه كون من لا شيء.

هذا الكتاب اعادة اخراج لكتاب" تاريخ موجز للزمان " ، لذلك لا عجب ان ما يقارب سبعين بالمئة من الكتاب قد ورد بالفعل في الكتاب السابق . بشكل اكثر بساطة واقل تقنية ، مع حذف بعض المواضيع -التي احببتها حقا - كالحديث عن كون الثقوب السوداء ليست جد سوداء في الحقيقة ، الانجاز العلمي الاشهر لهوكنج، في محاولته لربط النسبية بمكانيكا الكم . لكني شخصيا لم احس بالملل او التكرار الغير ذي فائدة ؛ اسلوب ستفين هوكنج الممتع والمترابط لا يملك الا ان يأسر القارئ ، في تتابع متسق للافكار وتجارب ذهنية مسلية ، الى صور توضيحية متعددة ، ثم اخيرا الحس الفكاهي الطريف لهوكنج .

هناك من يركز على الحاد هوكنج اكثر من تركيزه على ماقدمه للعلم . ولهؤلاء اقول :كان هوكنج في هذا الكتاب اجرئ في الحديث عن معتقداته الدينية . اذ قالها بصريح العبارة :" ... فالكون قد يكون مغلقا على نفسه تماما ولايتأثر بأي شيء خارجه ؛فهو لم يخلق ولن يفنى ، وهو موجود فقط . وطالما اعتقدنا ان للكون بداية ، فان دور الخالق يبدو واضحا هنا ، اما اذا كان الكون بالفعل مغلقا على نفسه وليس له حدود او حواف ، وليس له بداية او نهاية ، فان الاجابة ليست واضحة : ماهودور الخالق؟"

لم المح في الكتاب اي اثر لكاتب اخر غير هوكنج ، لا اعلم ما الذي كتبه ملوندينوف بالتحديد .
الترجمة كانت جيدة جدا ، ماعدى تعبير الجسيمات" الخائلية " الذي ارجح انه يراد به الجسيمات " الخيالية" ! فحسب معجم المعاني :"الخَائلُ : المتعهِّد للشيء المُصلح له،اسم فاعل من خالَ"

حين أفكر في صورتنا عن الكون التي تغيرت 360 درجة ، في غضون مئة وخمسين سنة تقريبا ، من ارض مسطحة مركز للكون ،الى كوكب تافه في مقابل هذا الكون المعجز ، لا املك الا ان اعجب من "الانسان الذي يطغى ان رأه استغنى " ... من نحن في النهاية ؟! لم كل هذا الكبر! أليس هناك " ألف الف عالم والف الف ادم" غيرنا!!

لم تقرأ الكتاب ؟
ربما لن يساعد اكتشاف النظرية الموحدة نوعنا على البقاء ، ربما لن يؤثر في نمط حياتنا . ولكن منذ فجر الحضارة لم يكن البشر مقتنعين بان يروا الاحداث غير مترابطة وغير مفهومة ، لقد كنا شغوفين لفهم النظام الذي يسير عليه العالم . ولانزال حتى اليوم نتطلع الى معرفة سبب وجودنا ، ومن اين اتينا . والرغبة الانسانية العميقة للمعرفة سبب كاف للتساؤلات المتسمرة ، ولايقل هدفنا عن الوصف التام للعالم الذي نعيش فيه .

بعد أن قرأت هذا الكتاب ازداد احترامي واعجابي بكل المتخصصين في الفيزياء وعلوم الفضاء والفلك فهم عباقرة لأنهم يستطيعون فهم هذه المعلومات المعقدة جدا عن نشأة الكون والفضاء و النجوم هذا الكتاب للعالم ستيفن هوكنج يحاول شرح النظريات حول الكون والنجوم و نسبية اينشتاين والثقوب السوداء والزمكان والسفر إلى المستقبل وميكانيكا الكم والرجل حاول قد المستطاع تسبيط هذه المعلومات إلى أقصى درجة حتى يفهمها القارىء الغير متخصص ورغم أنه لم يقصر في شرح تلك النظريات العلمية إلا أنني ل�� أستطع استيعاب سوى نصف المعلومات الواردة في الكتاب لأن قدراتي العقلية أقل من أن تستوعب هذه المعلومات وكنت أحيانا ابحث عن فيديوهات تشرح لي مجددا ما قرأته في الكتاب ورغم أنني لم أفهم كل شيء لكن ما فهمته وسع من مدراكي وزاد من معلوماتي العملية
المتواضعة
انصح هذا الكتاب لمحبي العلوم والفيزياء

I love Physics. And I suck at understanding Physics. But I try. I can actually identify the paragraph where I get lost. I guess that, at least at this time in my life, I'm not capable of getting my head around the concept of a unified and relative space-time and all the implications it carries (such as the bending of time near large gravitational fields, differences in aging the farther one gets from the center of a large gravitational field, and that whole section about time travel). I really wish I did get it, and I am confident that someday I will. As for now, even though I read the whole book after about page 70 most of it was well over my head. This is going to motivate me, though, to find someone who might be able to explain it to me so I get it. NOTE: Hawking actually does an incredible job of simplifying these concepts. My lack of understanding has much more to do with the limits on my brain rather than on his explanation. The book itself is incredibly well-written and easy to read. His explanations of the history of the field and his wry sense of humor keep it flowing and interesting.

Este libro realmente es un glosario compilado y desarrollado sobre una línea del tiempo del Universo y sus múltiples, variadas y complejas teorías y conceptos. Como hace alusión el título, es prácticamente un resumen de todo lo que sabe hasta ahora de todo lo que conocemos, te adentra un poco a familiarizarte con el conocimiento de miles de millones de años en unas cuantas páginas.

Como siempre, es muy emocionante (y confuso) leer a Hawking.

An even shorter version of a History of time... then a brief history of time and now a briefer history of time. I dont care how short he makes the next one. If it will take physics and make it digestible to the average joe then I'm all for it.

It surprises me how disinterested we are today about things like physics, space, the universe and philosophy of our existence, our purpose, our final destination.

That was somehow lost in our information generation. So like I said, if this tiny take on life and physics gets into more hands then horray. Its a crazy world out there. Be curious.

This book takes topics like general relativity, quantum theory, string theory, the universe, it;s size and expansion, black holes, time travel and microwaves that still exist from the first moments of the universe's existence and do it all with no numbers, just words :)

Its a great book to ease into other Stephen Hawking books. He is one of the most brilliant minds of my lifetime in my opinion. All hail the hawk!

"Zamanın Daha Kısa Tarihi", "Zamanın Kısa Tarihi" adlı kitabın daha anlaşılır özeti gibi düşünülebilir. Fazladan birkaç konu başlığı eklenmiş. Kitapta zaman yolculuğu yapmanın neden mümkün olabileceği güzel anlatılmış. Solucan delikleri, zamanda yolculuk, galaksiler arası yolculuk gibi ilgi çekici konulara anlaşılır cevaplar verilmiş. Hawking, geçmişe ve geleceğe yolculuğun mümkün olduğunu anlatıyor; ama hemen ardından "Eğer geçmişe yolculuk yapmak mümkünse, neden gelecekten biri geriye gelip, bunu nasıl yaptığını bize anlatmıyor?" sorusunu sorarak geçmişe-geleceğe yolculuk şüphesini dile getiriyor. İyi okumalar...

Не готов обсуждать достижения Хокинга как физика, но его усилия по популяризации астрономии, физики, космологии нельзя преуменьшать. Своими книгами о сильно возвысил этот жанр и, думаю, многие следующие за ним авторы должны быть благодарны.

О самой книге.
Очень интересно написано и даже мне, гуманитарию до мозга костей, не было скучно. Части до квантовой теории потрясающе понятны и позволяют систематизировать весь тот ворох информации что есть на эту тему. Дальше, при прочтении "квантовой" части, мой мозг уже не так справился и я решил что это и есть "квантовая неопределенность"!
Масштабы теорий поражают, увлеченность людей некоторыми теориями (и последующее разочарование) несколько удивляет, но это скорее норма для творческих людей.
Получил большое удовольствие и немного добавил в общем развитии.
