Wie immer, wenn ich Bücher lesen, welche gedankenanregend sind, fühle ich mich zuerst wie in einer ungewollten Selbsthilfegruppe.
Jedoch schafft es Coelho wie schon beim Alchimisten dies in schöne orientalische, auch mythische Weisheiten zu verpacken. Man macht sich automatisch selbst Gedanken über die "Gefälligkeitsbank, den eigenen Resignationspunkt oder auch den persönlichen Zahir".
Für seine eigene Beziehung kann man sich einige Anregungen zu Herzen nehmen. Die Aufmerksamkeit, das Interesse und vor allem die Kleinigkeiten sind entscheidend, um zu lernen wer man selbst ist und dadurch auch seinem Partner zu geben was dieser braucht.

As usual, the Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho accompanies us on a journey to delve into the secrets of the human soul to explore, with a philosophical template that pushes you to search for the other hidden meaning, other than the one that floats on the intended meaning of the phrase.
Coelho aroused a lot of philosophical points, he invalidated some of them, supported others and left some open for debate and discussion. Then he threw in our minds proofs of logic and surrounded us with simplified and beautiful philosophical debates, but they deviated from the path of the story and took it so far that I consider this book to be a philosophical book that is spilled with a fictional mold and not the other way around.
The Zahir is a rich message from a man who has reached some degree of maturity, a message wrapped in situations. A respectable novel to ask for philosophy and meaning of life more than a request for a dramatic plot, links, or a sequence of events.
The story revolves around a writer (the narrator) with the most popular novels, and his search for his missing wife (Esther) a press reporter. The protagonist enjoys all the perks, including money and fame, but he is under suspicion from the authorities and the press due to the unexplainable disappearance of his wife from their home in Paris after her mysterious circumstances of return from Iraq.
The novel contains great details of Coelho's life himself by the narrator of the story. In fact, it is believed that a large part of his real life path was mentioned here honestly and realistically. He mentioned details of his youth and during his work as a songwriter, his joining the hippies during the period of their spread, and his experience in writing his first novel, as well as implicitly some circumstances of his most important and most famous novel (The Alchemist). Coelho also mentioned he had been married three times before settling his relationship with "Christina". But he dedicated this novel (The Zahir) to Christina as stated in its introduction as if he is sending his wife an apologize for what he did previously in his life and tell her that he reached the wisdom of life and defeated his fear.
Coelho says about the meaning of “The Zahir” in the second section of the novel:
“A year later, I wake thinking about the story by Jorge Luis Borges, about something which, once touched or seen, can never be forgotten, and which gradually so fills our thoughts that we are driven to madness. My Zahir is not a romantic metaphor_ a blind man, a compass, a tiger, or a coin.
It has a name, and her name is Esther.”
The Zahir is everything that gets stuck in mind and dominates thinking all the time, and from it derives its name from Arabic "Al-Zuhair" which means brightness and luminosity, just like the idea that still lights up in the head, so it adheres to it and does not leave it, and what accompanies it from the firmness of anger in the heart and the intensity of passion. Another term in Arabic "Al-Zahir" which means something that is obvious or that cannot go unnoticed. In this story, Esther, the hero's wife, turned into (Zahir), meaning that after her emergency absence, she turned in his mind into a question that he seeks throughout the novel for an acceptable answer and a reasonable conclusion.
I was wondering about two axes while reading a novel of this type. The first is whether we have clear plans to follow ? And if we really own them, are they ours, or they are of others ? And the second, if love is really a journey of self-discovery first. Do we find ourselves when we love ? Or do we love when we find ourselves ? Coelho didn't answer and perhaps he should not, because that answer must be understood by us .. only by us!
Paulo Coelho's books always makes you feel like you're reading it at just the right time and that it was written as a message to you. I was reading it at the end of the year 2021 with its depressions and failures to finish reading it in the new year to begin fresh with deep meanings about love and how it can be a journey of self-discovery.
And here are some of the quotations that touched me personally:
“The most important thing in all human relationships is conversation, but people don’t talk anymore, they don’t sit down to talk and listen. They go to the theater, the cinema, watch television, listen to the radio, read books, but they almost never talk. If we want to change the world, we have to go back to a time when warriors would gather around a fire and tell stories.”
“I bear my scars as if they were medals. I know that freedom has a high price,as high as that of slavery; the only difference is that you pay with pleasure and a smile, even when that smile is dimmed by tears.”
“... freedom is not the absence of commitments, but the ability to choose -and commit myself to- what is best for me.”
“What we need to learn is always there before us, we just have to look around us with respect and attention in order to discover where God is leading us and which step we should take next.”
“... critics are extremely insecure. they don't really know what's going on, they're democrats when it comes to politics but fascists when it comes to culture.”
*Points to consider before reading this book in my opinion:
1. If you are depressed or on the verge of depression, do not read this novel.
2. It is a good novel that I would recommend only to avid readers who read and keep going on reading as a permanent habit. But for new readers, I do not find Coelho's works suitable for them.

A woman leaves her husband with no explanation. He finds himself in a journey of self discovery. So people look for other people because they love them or because they obsessed about them? Guess what, read the Zahir to find out. Dahdah of course he is looking for her because he loves her, A+ to my positivity. I guess I agree with the sous-jacent message "The most important thing in human relationships is conversation, Oh high spirit what happened to your people these days, they don't talk anymore."

Mein erster Coelho und vermutlich auch mein letzter.
Ich habe sehr lange gebraucht um in die Geschichte und in den Schreibstil reinzufinden, der von langen, bedeutungsschweren Dialogen in der Art eines platonischen Dialoges und seitenlangen Streams of Consciousness geprägt ist. An manchen Stellen war das passend und interessant, an vielen anderen aber einfach nur anstrengend.
Coelho erzählt in "Der Zahir" von der Reise eines Mannes, der von seiner Ehefrau von heute auf morgen verlassen wird und mit Hilfe ihres vermeintlichen Liebhabers versucht, sie wiederzufinden. Im Laufe des Buches merkt er, dass er eigentlich auf der Suche nach sich selbst ist. Coelho greift die Themen Liebe, Verlust und Obsession auf und setzt diese in einen spirituellen Kontext.
Ich weiß nicht ob es daran liegt, dass ich keine besonders spirituelle Person bin oder ob ich Teile seiner Aussagen einfach nicht verstanden habe, aber ich konnte mit einigen der Gedankengänge nichts anfangen. Dennoch bin ich froh dieses Buch gelesen zu haben. Ich werde einige der Erkenntnisse des Protagonisten mitnehmen und bestimmt noch länger über das Ende dieses Buches nachdenken.

เฉียบคมจังเลย หนังสือ "ตามรอยรัก" หรือ The Zahir ของลุงเปาโล คูเอญโญ ผลงานล่าสุดที่นานมีเลือกมาแปลค่ะ
ลุงเปาโลทำสำเร็จอีกแล้ว ดิฉันก็คงต้องเป็นติ่งลุงเปาโลต่อไป แล้วก็หยิบหาเล่มอื่นของลุงมาอ่านต่ออีก
"ตามรอยรัก" เป็นเรื่องแนวชีวิต แต่ควรจะเรียกว่าแนวผจญภัยมากกว่าถึงจะถูก เพราะสิ่งที่พระเอกของเรื่องเจอนี่มันเรียกว่าผจญภัยจริงๆ ถึงมันจะดราม่า และแทบจะเป็นหนังสือแนว Spiritual มากกว่านิยาย แต่ฉันว่าเรื่องนี้โรแมนติกล่ะ เป็นความโรแมนติกที่ใกล้เคียงกับความรักของพระผู้เป็นเจ้า (เฮ้อ... ยิ่งเล่าก็ยิ่งงงค่ะ)

في البداية اسمحوا لي ان اعبر عن غضبي و استيائي الشديد من نهاية الرواية .. بعد ان تحملت قراءة الرواية في سبيل النهاية و النهاية كانت مخيبة للآمال

بدايةً شعرت انها رواية جميلة باسلوب سرد جميل و تأملات جميلة
أيضا يعجبني ان باولو يتناول اساطير و قصص من ثقافات مختلفة و اماكن مختلفة و
لكن كل هذا لا يكفي … أين أحداث الرواية ؟؟؟؟

شاید داستان چندان گیرایی نداشته باشه و در ردیف بهترینهای کوئیلو نباشه، اما خوندن کتاب هاش همیشه منو با بخش های ناشناخته از وجود خودم آشنا میکنه. از همین جهت هم خوندن این کتاب رو توصیه میکنم.

I'm not impressed by this story, for the most part because I'm discombobulated by the plot. There are good quotes which is typical of Paulo Coelho. I've enjoyed his books, specially The Alchemist but The Zahir isn't my flavor. Manifestation of spirituality to discern reality and discover love is Coelho's bread and butter but in The Zahir he's overworked his beliefs. I got lost somewhere in the midst of the inner-voice and the tiresome journey to seek answers to a scarce question.
