What i learned from this book? The reason why we always try to destroy the things/people we love. And what our angels really look like. And how to "broaden our horizons."

They said this was the most "boring" book Coelho ever wrote. I say they're wrong.

Coelho kanns wirklich besser.

"Doch jeder mordet, was er liebt,
sei jeder dess belehrt,
Mit schmeichelndem Wort, mit bittrem Blick,
nach jeder Art und Wert;
Der Feige mordet mit einem Kuss,
der Tapfre mit einem Schwert!" (S.7; Gedicht v. Wilde)

"Dir entgeht das Beste an der Wüste. Die Einsamkeit." (S.22)

Another not great book by the author. Especially that he tells us his own experience about being on a desert. He was looking for some spiritual breakthrough. He chose for that a very commercial desert of Mojave and stays in hotels (very spiritual). He took his wife on the journey in order not to be alone and then complains she actually wants to accompany him. They get a great idea to get naked and lie in the sun, fortunately someone saves them and cures from dehydration and sunstroke. I've been to Mojave and didn't get such ideas. He does some magical rituals and then he prays - I thought magic isn't accepted by religion. Of course, in the end he finds what he was looking for but it sounds very far-fetched. I think I don't need to write what I think of all this bullshit, you can easily guess.

This book seems a mixture of Don Juan and Og Mandino. Paulo says most of it was true. It is his search in the southwest US of meeting his angel. There are mixtures of religion - New Age, Catholic etc - in the search for a new world. But I don't believe that truly spiritual people would act as some of the ones in the story, especially the Valkyries. Not really a good read for me.

This book… I loved this book with my whole heart however I would not recommend this book to anyone. I feel like it needs to find you in the right season. If I had read this book at the wrong time it would have made no sense and I would have missed the magic in it. It’s a book that will speak to you when your ready to hear what it has to say. I don’t know if that makes sense however that is all I got. I was really impacted and moved by The Valkeries and feel like this is another beautiful work by Paulo Coelho.

Read it when your ready. Happy growing

Not my cup of tea at all... I mean, I don't know what else I was expecting. With the author being Paulo Coelho, that should have been hint enough. I got intrigued by the title of the book, thought it might be different and that maybe I'll like it... Well apparently it is different to his other works, but still not the different I was hoping for I guess

I like that Coelho’s books are relatively easy to read, yet often profound in its insight into why we must sometimes endure suffering. I think the author tries to use his characters to help us move past the victim (“why me???”) mentality. I also love that he draws up strong women, as well as emotionally open male characters. These archetypes help dispel stereotypes of standard gender norms.

“You know about your strength now. Your horizon now extends to mountains, valleys, and deserts. Your soul has grown large, and will continue to grow. You’ve discovered your courage, and that’s enough.”

“The day will come when love will be accepted by every heart, and the most terrible of human experiences— solitude, which is worse than hunger— will be banned from the face of the Earth.”

“True seekers know that, regardless of our faults and defects, the spiritual path is stronger. God is love, generosity, and forgiveness; if we believe in this, we will never allow our weaknesses to paralyze us.”
