excellent! This is a reread, Look how far we have fallen! It's a Repubic if you can keep it. America stand up, don't lose what was gifted to you through blood, sweat, and tears.
Personal opinions and politics aside, New York City is better off because of Giuliani. In this book, he is not afraid to tell us why he did such a good job as Mayor of NYC. Now I know, his ego is huge, he's pompus, I have heard it all... but the results are there-- the City is cleaner and safer because of him! I saw him speak during a Leadership series, shortly after 9-11. It was one of the most amaizing seminars I have ever seen. I don't care how "off" people think his tactics were, what he did to NYC during his tenur was nothing short of incredible... and who is was to the city, and to the country during the days / weeks after 9-11 - he was "america's mayor". And to me he still is...
Throughout the book Giuliani tells us how he turned the City around. I found his philosphy and actions taken enjoyable to read. And craziest thing is that the strategies are simple! Even when he discusses his actions on 9-11... they are so pure and simple.. Don't get me wrong, I know that 9-11 was not simple... but the way he breaks down the first thoughts in his mind about what to do.. your like "wow he makes that sound so easy"
It is full of politics, so those not interested in politics, may not find this book enjoyable.
Rudy Giuliani revitalized and assured restoration of New York City even after the tragic 9/11 events. The leadership of Rudy was truly transcending and unprecedented because he displayed dignity and intellect that reminded New York City to remain calm. Even amid the tragedy, Rudy retained his ideals of being a leader the same as he did even prior to 9/11. The leadership skills that Rudy applies to life as well as Mayor of New York City were truly inspiring because the skills and knowledge were perfectly pertinent to the solution. The qualities that Rudy seemed to really emphasize as a leader were Prepare Relentlessly, Everyone is Accountable, Surround Yourself with Good People, Underpromise, Overdeliver and Loyalty. Overall, Rudy was beyond courageous in leading New York through the tragic events, and his insights on leadership were informative and intriguing. It was an excellent book with great examples on how he made key decisions and how he came to that conclusion from experience.
Asked for and received as a gift. I don't know. Going to HPB.
Found a video of his opening the 2001 Season of Saturday Night Live and his monologue really was great. Those were words we should have used. Paul Simon played "The Boxer;" and it will induce some tears. Anyway, there's no mystery why people wanted to hear more from him after all that tragedy and how New York deals.
I really need to read some critiqe of Rudy after reading this book. I'm sure someone has valid reasons he ought not be the next president. I saw an anti-Rudy article in The Rolling Stone but did't get a chance to read it, and I started to read one in Harper's today but did'nt want to pay 7 bucks to buy it and had to leave to go see a movie-- gotta prioritize right? Patriotic duty to be informed is highly overrated. Over all it was an informative and kinda entertaining book.
Overall, this book provided some helpful tidbits for those looking to explore leadership and how to approach it. It is written by an often well respected leader who has been tested.
Personally, I disagreed with many parts of mr. Guilianni's style. Throughout the book, his arrogance is evident and strong. As an author, and someone who's leadership style the reader is studying, this detracted from the positive impact of the book.
There were still things that were helpful. It provided an opportunity for much critical thinking regarding a wide range of issues. The perspective that he shares of 9/11 is also unique and valuable for understanding this historic event.
While this book reads more like an autobiography, there are still many helping portions in it, if you are able to stick with it to the end. I am not sorry I read this book, but it is not one that I would highly recommend.
I was surprised that this book talked more about his management style running New York City and not about conservative politics and principles. He espouses basic principles about leadership that would be useful running any large entity, His use of metrics to gauge the success or failure of a program could be applied to anywhere outside of government. Do not expect much about the personal life known to hit the back pages of the New York Post. This is not a tell all biography. Overall, it is an easy read. The book appears to make every problem solvable and manageable if you follow his principles. Life sometimes gets in the way of a perfect world.
Frustrated that my brain is stagnating, and wanting to make a change in work, life and who knows what else, I turned to some serious writing to see if I could learn anything. Not from this I couldn't. The Mayor has a particular style and a particular job which, over a hundred pages into it, I was finding difficult to apply to anything I did. I began to suspect that he had leadership qualities but was finding it difficult himself to understand why! So the book is sitting unfinished at the moment, although I may return to it.
He was a nice man ,did a good job in 9/11. He said in is book. I am often my most severe critic. When i screw something up ,i step out of myself and look, at the errors 1,ve made and agonize over why i didn't think of this or anticipate that. wen he got with Trump that change everything. Not the same man anymore .
