Update 20/1/24 - I read this book more than 10 years ago and I’ve learned a good deal about Giuliani since, none of it good. But I stand by what I wrote after I’d read it, back in the day (below)
———————————————————-

The first section of the book - the part that deals with 9/11 and it's aftermath - is compelling and inspiring. the sections that follow...well, less so. this book starts off with a fantastic story but then becomes a preening 'how good am I' list of activities you can pick up from just about any book on leadership. My advice: stop after the 9/11 section - but do read this.

Regardless of what you think of Giuliani’s politics, it is undeniable that his leadership helped guide New York and even America through one of the darkest times in our history. This book details the leadership principles that led him to becoming the mayor of NYC and ultimately helped him get a city through one of the worst crises imaginable. Highly recommend.

I read this book when it came out in 2005. His tenets of leadership qualities were universal. I still remember them . I did heartily disagree with his view of unions.

Hard to think the 2021 person is the same man.

The leadership book spoke of relentless preparedness, surrounding yourself with those that fill in your gaps of knowledge , positive assertions, gathering diverse opinions, and taking criticism and blame.

What gives with his sycophantic relationship with the President!!!

If this book was only 60 pages long, it would be fantastic. The first 60 pages contain Rudulph Giuliani's personal first hand account of the events of 911, and his personal efforts trying to coordinate and oversee the initial response and rescue effort. This section of the book is very interesting, it provides a whole new level of understanding of what those who were at ground zero were experiencing. The rest of the book is Giuliani's personal philosphy on leadership, I thought it was somewhat boreing.

Interesting read. Insightful book that helps to outline some of the author's philosophies concerning politics and leadership. Some remarkable things occurred in NYC during his term as mayor there. 911 and Guilliani's role in assisting the city through that crisis receive a lot of press, it was interesting to learn what else occurred in the city as a result of his leadership.

I thought this book would be more of an autobiography which is why I rated it two stars. It was more about leadership, how he learned from others in order to lead, how to be a good leader. He tied in historical events, mainly 9/11 which were interesting to read how the leaders reacted immediately and went into action.

Published in the aftermath of 9/11,the book is a reflection of Giuliani's tenure as NYC's mayor. It was also an insight of how a Giuliani White House would run, although he denied presidential ambitions at the time. In the book, Guiliani offers a set of leadership principles he's learnt through out his life and indicates how these were instrumental in turning NYC around. The peak of the effectiveness of theses principles was how well his administration handled 9/11. But with any autobiography the writer often fails to be self critical. One also gets the sense of Rudolph having micro management tendencies. Although it is impressive that he is a hard worker and strong on knowing the details of everything and I mean everything in his administration, there is a sense that he struggles with delegation. Only worth reading if you want to know "the world according to Guilliani"
