I'm gradually arriving at the conclusion that these graphic novel adaptations of significant fantasy books simply don't appeal to me.

The intricate details that are so crucial in the original often seem to get lost within the art of the graphic novel. As a result, the stories end up feeling somewhat watered down or diluted.

Moreover, the format of the graphic novel doesn't always lend itself well to telling a high-quality and engaging story.

However, on the flip side, this experience has actually made me have a strong desire to read this series in its original form. So, it wasn't a total waste.

But the fact that it took me a full 10 days to muster up the motivation to finish this graphic novel says a lot about its overall impact on me.

It makes me wonder if graphic novel adaptations are really the best way to bring these beloved fantasy stories to a new audience.

Perhaps there are better ways to capture the essence and magic of the original works without sacrificing the details and the integrity of the storytelling.

One of the fantasy epics that truly ignited my profound love for the genre! It's a memory that's as vivid as day. I recall vividly carrying this very book to a family lunch. While my cousins were chatting and having a great time, I was completely immersed in the world of the story. I simply refused to engage in conversation with them because my sole focus was on finishing the book. Pug's remarkable growth, from being a lowly apprentice to evolving into a mighty magician, has been indelibly etched into my memory for the past 30 years. It's almost parallel to Luke Skywalker's iconic journey to becoming a jedi knight. This story has had such a profound impact on me, and it continues to be a source of inspiration and wonder even after all these years.

This is a truly great page-turning story that is filled with an abundance of rich and fascinating mythical characters. The narrative is so engaging that it keeps the reader hooked from beginning to end. However, my only complaint is that the book seems to end abruptly right at the apex of the story

First published in 1982, this weighty fantasy was inspired by a Dungeons and Dragons campaign, and the story borrows heavily from Lord of the Rings.

Obviously, I'm completely in my element. Some editions are edited as the story is very long, but I personally relished the long scenes and character development.

If you are a fan of fantasy, then 'Magician' is in the canon, and there's a good reason for it. There is a rich cast of characters that keeps each part of the plot engaging.

However, I was disappointed by the glaring lack of female characters. There is a brief appearance of a Mother and two ongoing Love Interests, but that's where the inclusion of women stops.

It's a disappointing omission, but one that the fantasy genre has begun to address since the 1980s. Additionally, there are numerous fight-scenes. I mean an abundance of fight-scenes.

But they are well-written, and as a seasoned D&D fan, I found them quite enthralling. If you enjoyed the second Hobbit film, the second LoTRs film, or any of GoT, then these fight scenes are for you.

Rating: 9/10 - for anyone who has read and savored a fantasy book: fill that bath high and turn your phone off, you're in for a treat!

I think I would have truly relished the original novel to a greater extent. Sadly, this happens to be the sole version accessible at my library.

Frequently, I encountered great difficulty in discerning which character was which, and it gave the impression that a substantial quantity of vital information was lacking for me to fathom what was transpiring.

Putting the story aside for a moment, I discovered that some of the art was really rather unappealing. Can we please desist from depicting women in this manner? The line for the princess's navel was remarkably visible when it most definitely should not have been. Were her dresses painted on or something? Yikes!

It's quite a pity that this version fails to live up to my expectations in both the story-telling and the artistic aspects. I hope that in the future, there will be better adaptations or the original novel will become more widely available so that I can experience it as it was intended.

High fantasy is a genre that I truly love. It often features loveable characters that draw you in and make you root for them. Dragons, those magnificent and fearsome creatures, add an extra layer of excitement and wonder. However, there are some aspects that can be a bit of a drawback for me. In some high fantasy stories, there is just too much politics, which can sometimes feel overwhelming and take away from the magical elements. Another issue I've noticed is that all the girls seem to be either cooks, princesses, or helpless. It would be nice to see more diverse and strong female characters. Additionally, there are many moments in these stories when I think it's a good end, yet it just drags on. This can make the reading experience a bit tiresome at times. Despite these flaws, I still have a soft spot for high fantasy and continue to explore the genre in search of those truly magical and unforgettable tales.

An orphan boy named Pug finds himself becoming the apprentice of a master magician.

His inherent magic abilities draw him into a fierce war that rages between his own world and invaders from a foreign land called Tsuranuanni.

"Magician: Apprentice" by Raymond E. Feist is a captivating fantasy novel that transports the reader to a world crafted from a blend of Medieval Europe and Samurai Japan, enhanced by otherworldly magic. Set in the era of the Samurai, it is the first installment of a trilogy and presents all the elements that a fantasy enthusiast could desire from such a tale.

This book has an amazing charm that takes me right back to my youth.

It immediately got me completely hooked on the wonderful world of Midkemia.

The question then arises: does it stand the test of time?

The answer is yes. However, it should be noted that the following books in the series have a bit of a mixed bag in terms of readability.

Some of them really read well and are quite engaging, while others are more average.

Nonetheless, I have to admit that I really, truly loved the first handful of books in this series.

They hold a special place in my heart and have left a lasting impression on me.

Even after all these years, I can still vividly remember the characters, the adventures, and the magical atmosphere that was created within those pages.

It's truly a remarkable series that has withstood the test of time and continues to captivate readers of all ages.

An amazing book indeed! It presents such an original story line that is truly captivating. The setting is on another world where it is invaded by another race of intelligent beings, which are essentially aliens. Raymond E. Feist is an extremely talented author. His writing style and the way he crafts this story make it impossible for readers to put the book down. I have read it several times already, but I find that I could still pick it up and read it again with the same amount of love and enthusiasm. Each time I read it, I discover new details and aspects that I might have missed before. It's a book that keeps on giving and never fails to engage my imagination.

An enjoyable creation of a fantastical world awaits the reader. The character development is truly fun, as each principal character has a distinct personality. The story unfolds with a world being invaded by aliens. They seem to be transported through what I envision as a wormhole (whatever that might be precisely), and the author refers to it as a rift in the galaxy. It's about a bronze or Iron Age culture being encroached upon by a culture that apparently lacks access to metals. Although there is no electronic communication, they possess some sort of magic. The apprentice magician Pug accidentally uses this magic to subdue a group of trolls.

A significant amount of time is dedicated to the intense battle between the humans and the aliens. The book concludes with a cliffhanger, leaving Pug in absencia and hinting that he is on the verge of reappearing. This keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, eager to discover what will happen next in this exciting and imaginative tale.
