I had read this quite some time ago in my youth, almost 20 years ago to be exact. It was a pleasant surprise to discover that I had forgotten most of the details about the book. As a result, it felt like I was reading it for the very first time. I'm happy to report that I'm at least equally in love with the book this time around, if not more so. Now, I believe I am capable of experiencing the book as the author intended, delving into its greater depth of meaning that a 12-year-old simply couldn't grasp. I'm really looking forward to re-reading everything else he has written, starting with Magician: Master.

It's truly amazing how time can change our perspective and allow us to rediscover the magic in a book. I can't wait to embark on this literary journey and explore the other works of this talented author.

I do not know if this was Mr. Feist's first novel. However, it was indeed the first of his books that I have had the pleasure of reading.

The name Pug didn't really sit well with me initially. It seemed a bit unusual and perhaps not as captivating as some other names. But as I delved deeper into the story, I was completely drawn in.

The characters, especially Kulgan and others, were brought to life in the most masterful way. Their personalities, motives, and interactions were so vividly described that I could easily picture them in my mind.

Moreover, the rich descriptiveness of the people and environments was truly remarkable. Mr. Feist has a gift for painting a detailed and immersive world that makes the reader feel as if they are right there, experiencing everything along with the characters.

Overall, despite my initial reservation about the name Pug, this novel has left a lasting impression on me and has made me eager to explore more of Mr. Feist's works.

Pug, the kitchen boy, leads a life filled with love and warmth. He has a close friend by his side and an adoptive family that cares for him deeply.

Early on, he also acquires a mentor who guides him and helps him grow. This makes the story a reassuring coming of age tale on one hand.

However, on another level, there is a sense of total dislocation from all these things.

I read this book two weeks ago, and unfortunately, I remember very little about it. This is quite common with audio books in my experience.

Despite that, I still enjoyed the story and would definitely return to this author and this book sometime in the future.

I look forward to re-immersing myself in Pug's world and rediscovering the details that I may have missed the first time around.

It felt as if the story had lost its momentum and become rather dull and uninteresting. But then, towards the end, there was a slight resurgence of my interest. The conclusion had some elements that I enjoyed. Nevertheless, it was not sufficient to make me want to continue with the series. Overall, my experience with this book was a bit of a rollercoaster ride, with both highs and lows.

Simple as that. If you have a penchant for fantasy, then this is every bit as much of a'must read' as Lord of the Rings.

My favorite character and plot is Tomas and the entire Valheru business.

Tomas, with his unique abilities and mysterious background, adds an extra layer of intrigue to the story.

The Valheru, ancient and powerful beings, bring a sense of epicness and danger.

Their actions and the consequences that follow drive the plot forward in a thrilling way.

Did I mention that this is just brilliant? Well, it is!

I read this story in paperback form back when it first came out.

My initial reaction was that it was an excellent story!

Rereading it has not changed my opinion one bit.

Pug, Tomas, and even Roland form an interesting group of friends.

Pug is apprenticed to a magician, Tomas to the guards, and Roland is a squire.

At the beginning, their relationship is not without its bumps, but they do ultimately become friends.

In the process of learning magic, Pug and Tomas encounter a ship from another place.

They learn about rifts, magic, and in this case, a great deal about politics.

We have Tsunami from another world who desires to conquer Midkemia.

Why? You'll have to read and find out.

Enjoy the action-packed scenes, the charming romance, the humorous moments, and the numerous plot twists!

This story truly has it all and is a must-read for any fantasy lover.

It will transport you to a world full of magic and adventure, keeping you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

So, pick up this book and get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey!

The book was indeed well written in a certain sense. So well that I simply couldn't put it down once I started reading. However, upon closer inspection, it became quite evident that more than half of the content was lifted directly from Lord of the Rings. And the remaining part was almost a blatant cut-and-paste job from Game of Thrones.

It is understandable to be influenced by great writers. After all, they serve as an inspiration for many. But there is a clear line between being influenced and outright plagiarism. Taking someone else's work, changing a few names here and there, and then passing it off as your own is simply unacceptable.

In all fairness, I should have given this book a zero for its blatant act of plagiarism. But despite that, I still gave it a 3/5 because, to be honest, it was an enjoyable read. The story, although not original, had a certain charm that kept me engaged from start to finish. But this does not excuse the fact that the author took shortcuts and did not put in the effort to create something truly unique.
