I have perused all of Raymond Feist's literary works in the past, with the exception of the trilogy to which this particular book belongs.

I discovered this book to be an engaging narrative, albeit perhaps not reaching the same heights as the original trilogies.

This specific volume has a certain resemblance to an Agatha Christie mystery in that it concludes with a convening of all the suspects in a single room, accompanied by the customary twist at the finale.

Nevertheless, I did take pleasure in the characters, and the story managed to draw me in and hold my attention.

Overall, while it may not be on par with Feist's earlier trilogies, it still offers an enjoyable reading experience for fans of his work and those who appreciate a good mystery with a touch of intrigue.

It will be interesting to see how this book fits into the larger context of the trilogy and what further developments lie ahead for the characters and the story.

Honestly, I have to say that I didn't think this book was very good :/

I opted to listen to the audiobooks. However, unlike the other books written by Feist, I found myself constantly drifting away and not really paying attention. I made a genuine effort though; I even rewound and went back to listen to whole chapters again, but unfortunately, it just didn't stick in my mind. It seemed to me that a significant portion of the book was centered around the politics of the kingdom, and there weren't many exciting action moments. In fact, the best part of the book only occurred when the actual murder took place, and the process of trying to figure out who the culprit was. But here's the catch, that doesn't even begin until the end of the book. That's precisely why I'll give this book a rating of 2 stars. Because, to be fair, it did manage to get better towards the end, but overall, it just didn't meet my expectations.

What an extremely odd book this is!

For the initial three quarters of the story, almost nothing of significance occurs. It's a rather slow-paced build-up that might make the reader wonder if anything exciting is ever going to happen.

However, suddenly, in the final quarter, a whodunit mystery emerges and is resolved in a rather quick fashion. It's almost as if the author decided to cram all the action and excitement into the last part of the book.

Despite this rather strange pacing, the three lead characters are fairly likeable. Their personalities and the way they interact with each other make it enjoyable to read about their griping and complaining as they find themselves in increasingly difficult circumstances. It's interesting to see how they cope with the challenges and how their relationships evolve throughout the story. Overall, while the book has its flaws, it still manages to hold the reader's attention and provide an entertaining read.

Eh.

I was kind of bored throughout the entire book due to the non-stop politics that was happening in LaMut. It seemed to go on and on without any end in sight.

The murder, which was supposed to be the main event, didn't even occur until the very end. And by that time, I had become so disinterested that I was thinking, "Who gives a shit?"

Moreover, I had been hoping for a really great twist in the who-dun-it mystery. But unfortunately, when it was revealed, I wasn't really surprised at all. It just felt very ordinary and unoriginal.

I truly hope that the next book in the series is much better. I'm really crossing my fingers and hoping for something more exciting and engaging.

I want a story that will keep me on the edge of my seat from start to finish and a mystery that will have me guessing until the very end.

Please, authors, give me something that will make me fall in love with reading all over again.

This particular story by Feist is rather disappointing when juxtaposed with his other works.

The characters within it lack the depth and development that one has come to expect from Feist's creations. They fail to truly engage the reader on an emotional level, leaving one feeling rather indifferent towards their fates.

The storyline, too, is highly forgettable. It seems to simply borrow elements from the established Feist universe without really adding anything new or exciting. In essence, it amounts to a mediocre detective story that fails to leave a lasting impression.

Overall, this story is a letdown and does not measure up to the high standards set by Feist in his previous works. It serves as a reminder that even the most talented authors can have off days when it comes to creating engaging and memorable fiction.

Perhaps Feist will rebound with his next offering and once again captivate readers with his unique brand of storytelling. Until then, fans will have to look back on his previous masterpieces and hope for the best.

This is truly one of the worst books that I have ever had the misfortune to read.

It stands out as the absolute worst within Feist's series. Generally speaking, it is a total chore to get through.

The plot is extremely dull, lacking any real excitement or engaging elements. The writing is of such poor quality that it makes the reading experience a real struggle.

The main event, which should be the highlight, only occurs toward the very end, and even then, it has a disappointingly poor ending.

I cannot express how relieved and pleased I was when I finally reached the last page and was able to put this book down for good.

It is a book that I would not recommend to anyone, and I hope that others can avoid the same unpleasant experience that I had.

This book is most definitely the weakest one in the Rift war series up to this point.

Each and every other book within the series has managed to either progress the story in a meaningful way or fill in some crucial gaps. However, this particular installment just seemed to be a whole lot of fuss about nothing.

It felt as if there was an excessive amount of talking, with not much else happening.

The story didn't seem to have a clear direction or purpose, and it failed to engage the reader on the same level as the previous books.

It was a disappointment, especially considering the high standards set by the rest of the series.

One would have expected more from this book, but unfortunately, it just didn't deliver.

Hopefully, the next installment in the series will be able to recapture the magic and excitement that made the earlier books so enjoyable.

Until then, readers will have to make do with this rather lackluster offering.

This is such a poorly written book.

It truly is a pity because I have relished all of Feist's books up until now.

Every negative comment regarding this book is indeed the truth.

I would not suggest it to anyone.

The story seems to lack coherence and the characters are not well-developed.

The writing style is also rather平淡, failing to engage the reader on a deeper level.

It's disappointing to see such a departure from the high standards that Feist has set with his previous works.

Perhaps he was in a rush or had other distractions while writing this one.

Whatever the reason, it's a book that I would rather forget.

I hope that Feist will return to his former glory with his next publication.

I usually treat myself to a Raymond E. Feist when I'm in the mood for some fun, fast-paced adventure. However, this particular book failed to deliver on that front. It's a co-written work, and I'm sorry Joel Rosenburg, but since you're the only new element in the equation here, I'm blaming you.

It seems that the majority of the book was dedicated to background information, with all the (minimal) action taking place in the last few chapters. It was just okay. I ended up reading it every night mainly to get through it, rather than because I was really eager to pick it up again.

I had high expectations given Feist's reputation, but this one didn't quite hit the mark. Maybe it was the collaboration that didn't gel as well as it could have. Or perhaps the story was just too bogged down in the setup. Whatever the reason, it wasn't the thrilling adventure I was hoping for.

Nevertheless, I'll probably still give Feist's other works a chance in the future, as this one might just be an anomaly. But for now, I'm left a bit disappointed with this particular reading experience.

I was truly disappointed by this book.

To begin with, it is a stand-alone rather than a sequel to Honoured Enemy. I had been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to further develop the characters established in the earlier book.

Secondly, it is highly centered around the political intrigue surrounding a murder, which is not to my taste and not what I anticipate from J. Feist.

Nonetheless, it is advisable to read it to the end. Although, like me, you might likely scan-read several sections. There are no major surprises, and while I won't disclose the twist, you will probably be able to predict it.

Overall, this book failed to meet my expectations and left me feeling somewhat let down.

A genre mash-up is indeed not an effortless feat to accomplish. However, a murder mystery set within a fantasy world seems as if it ought to function, and in this case, it does. Raymond E Feist and Joel Rosenberg's 'Murder in Lamut' showcases that crime fiction can thrive in a fantasy setting. Nevertheless, it also reveals that poor crime fiction is subpar regardless of the setting.

The story of 'Lamut' revolves around three mercenaries who find themselves entangled in local politics and murder. Being the only impartial individuals in the vicinity, they are entrusted with the task of investigating a grisly case.

Regrettably, this case takes approximately 300 pages to commence. The majority of the book is a sluggish build-up as we are introduced to the world and the characters, who later become suspects. I might be considered old-fashioned, but I have minimal interest in delving deeply into the local politics of a nonexistent city. Nonetheless, this doesn't prevent Feist and Rosenberg from doing precisely that. At times, the book progresses at a glacial pace.

Some of the fundamental elements that contribute to good crime fiction are absent; there is a lack of pace and a confused narrative. It's a pity because the three mercenaries hold great promise. One is intelligent yet unattractive, one is brutal yet calm, and the other is approachable yet impulsive. In the right book, these three characters would be outstanding. I would potentially give another book in the series a try if Feist and Rosenberg begin by crafting an intriguing murder mystery and then construct the fantasy upon it. As it stands, this book feels as though it lacks a solid foundation.

I thought this was the worst book of the series, by far!

I knew that it wasn't part of the main storyline, but the previous one (Honoured Enemy) still managed to keep my interest piqued. However, in this particular installment, I found myself constantly getting the 3 mercenaries mixed up. It was a real struggle to keep up with the other characters as well. In fact, I simply didn't care about them at all.

The only time it managed to spark my interest was when there was actually a murder in LaMut. But unfortunately, this didn't occur until the book was nearly over. By that point, I had already lost a significant amount of enthusiasm for the story. It's a shame really, as I had high hopes for this book, especially after enjoying the previous one. But alas, it just didn't live up to my expectations.
