I've been delving back into the series that hold a special place in my heart and catching up on some of the books that I unfortunately missed (for various reasons) upon their initial release.

We have the noble Prince Arutha, and briefly, Pug along with his son William. However, the true shining star of this book is Squire James (formerly known as Jimmy the Hand), who just so happens to be my absolute favorite character in this extensive 30+ book series.

This is a stand-alone novel where the plot revolves around a fierce war that rages in the underworld. The Mockers are being challenged by someone known as the Crawler. Essentially, we have a mafia war set in a fantastical land. But the questions remain: Why is this happening? What are the motives? What is the endgame they are all striving for? Answering these questions leads to a truly captivating adventure story.

This book was significantly better than the previous one (Krondor: The Betrayal), and I highly recommend it. While it might be beneficial to have read the books that preceded it, it's not entirely necessary.

With action, adventure, magic, assassins, great characters, and a fast-paced plot, there's really not much more to say. It's a must-read for fans of the genre.

This is the second book in the Riftwar Legacy, which is part of the much larger Riftwar Cycle. Theoretically, I had read this book before, but I remembered absolutely nothing about it. While my memories of most of these books have been very faint after 20 years, I usually remember something, however minor or vague.

I really enjoyed this one. It features Jimmy prominently, which definitely added to my enjoyment. There’s also a significant amount of Arutha, at least compared to the last several books, and there are lots of fun dialogues. The story itself was quite suspenseful at times. Although there were some overly-convenient things, which is a fairly common occurrence in these books, I might have rolled my eyes a few times, but the story still held my attention well. We also spend a fair amount of time with William, , a character who showed up quite a bit in the previous subseries set many years later but whom we never really got to know.

Unlike the first book in this subseries, this one is not based on a video game. However, it bridges the gap between that book and the third book which was also based on a video game. Although the most immediate problems are resolved by the end, there are still quite a few open questions. Much of what is introduced in this book is actually setting up the events in the next book.

I’m probably being overly generous with my 4.5-star rating. There’s nothing earthshattering or groundbreaking here, and it’s not even one of Feist’s best books if I were being completely objective. I just really had a lot of fun reading it, and my ratings are almost completely based on my enjoyment level. I’m rounding down to 4 on Goodreads since I can’t justify 5 stars.

The comments in my spoiler tags will explain another silly reason why this book made me so happy. Although it's a somewhat minor spoiler, it also spoils things in some of the previous subseries that are set chronologically after this one.

Book 2 of the Legacy of the Riftwar is an interesting read.

I still found enjoyment in it, and it is indeed an improvement over book 1. However, the plot has its drawbacks.

It is actually quite short, and the sequence of events comes across as very rigid and scripted.

This is most likely due to the fact that there is a computer game underlying it.

As a result, events and situations in the fiction can seem a bit awkward.

Jimmy remains as entertaining and endearing a character as ever.

On the other hand, Prince Arutha feels like a mere shadow.

There are some really good scenes in the book, but for the most part, the rest is just average.

It is good enough for fans of Feist, Midkemia, or Jimmy, but others might want to skip it.

Overall, it has its strengths and weaknesses, and while it has some enjoyable aspects, it may not be for everyone.

Mm. I didn't love it.

At the beginning, I was not really engaged with the story. However, as it progressed, I started to get a bit curious towards the end.

This curiosity was enough to set me up for the next book in the series.

One aspect that I did enjoy was the line between Talia and Will. Their relationship added an interesting dynamic to the story.

But overall, I have to say that this book was not as good as the original saga or the empire books.

The original saga had a certain charm and depth that this one seemed to lack.

The empire books, on the other hand, had a more engaging plot and better developed characters.

Nevertheless, I will still give the next book a chance, hoping that it will be an improvement.

Overall, this book is better than "Betrayal", but it still doesn't quite reach Feist's usual high standards.

It took a while for the story to really get going. At the beginning, I found myself a bit bored and wondering when the action would pick up. However, once it did, it ended up being pretty good.

The characters were well-developed, and the plot had some interesting twists and turns.

I would have given this book 3 stars if it wasn't for the last 100 or so pages. These pages made up for the rest of the book by including an awesome battle scene. It was so exciting and well-written that it really elevated the entire story.

I'll be rounding out this trilogy with the next book, hoping for a bit more from the final volume. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story concludes and whether Feist can deliver an even better ending. Overall, I'd rate this book 3.5 stars.

This book is truly a significant improvement over the first installment in the trilogy.

The plotting is much tighter, and the events within the narrative have a greater sense of cohesion.

It has a better focus, which makes it a lot more enjoyable to read.

Perhaps the editor had a greater influence this time around, as it seemed to me that Feist's writing idiosyncrasies were toned down.

However, there are still some common issues with Feist's writing in general.

For instance, his characters have a limited range of facial expressions, and there are no truly developed female characters to speak of, aside from William's love interest.

Nevertheless, beyond these flaws, the book functions quite well as a low-brow fantasy adventure, filled with intrigue and danger in abundance.

Overall, I would rate this book a 3.5 out of 5.

It has its shortcomings, but it also offers enough entertainment value to make it a worthwhile read for fans of the genre.

I'm giving this story a 5-star review.

At first, I had my doubts. I wasn't sure the author would be able to dig his way out of the previous book in this series.

The previous installment had left me with some concerns and I was worried that the author might struggle to overcome the challenges it presented.

However, I was pleasantly surprised. The author managed to not only address the issues from the previous book but also took the story in a new and exciting direction.

The characters were well-developed and the plot was engaging from start to finish.

I found myself completely immersed in the story and couldn't put the book down.

Overall, this is a great addition to the series and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading.

Krondor: The Assassins is a truly fantastic sequel to Krondor: The Betrayal.

It has been an absolute page-turner, constantly keeping me on the edge of my seat with anticipation and an insatiable need to know what will happen next.

The story builds upon the foundation laid in the first book, introducing new characters and plotlines that add depth and complexity to the overall narrative.

I find myself completely invested in the fates of the characters and eagerly awaiting each new revelation.

As I near the end of this book, I can't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for the final installment in this trilogy.

The second book in the Riftwar Legacy series is yet another outstanding work of fantasy and adventure.

The story unfolds with Prince Arutha and the city of Krondor facing even more troubles. Death and chaos prevail, and a visiting Duke and his family become the targets of magic and murder.

It falls upon former thief Jimmy The Hand, now Squire James, to join forces with Magician Pug's soldier son William and tough army captain Tregger. They must venture into the lair of the snakes and do their utmost to ensure that the assassin Nighthawks and their sinister allies are vulnerable when Arutha arrives with an army of soldiers.

Book 2 is filled with a wide variety of action and suspense, featuring vicious surprise attacks, evil magicians, conjured creatures, a hidden enemy stronghold with a dark secret, and Squire James and his comrades right in the thick of it all.

It's a fast-paced page-turner that offers all the adventure and intrigue you've come to anticipate from Raymond E. Feist. It's a truly entertaining book with a plethora of engaging characters that will keep you hooked and reluctant to put it down.
