Better after the last one, 'Betrayal', this latest installment truly reads like a Feist book. It zeroes in on Squire James, delving deep into his character and the various challenges he faces.

Not only that, but it also shines a light on the seedy underbelly of Krondor. The problems lurking within this bustling city are explored in great detail, from the shadowy figures pulling the strings to the corrupt practices that are slowly eating away at its foundation.

The consequences of these issues are far-reaching and have a significant impact on the lives of the people who call Krondor home. As the story unfolds, we see how these consequences play out, leading to a web of intrigue, danger, and drama that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.

Overall, this book is a must-read for fans of Feist's work, offering a captivating and immersive experience that will leave them eagerly anticipating the next installment.

This time, there is a book with William in the leading role, the son of magician Pug. Of course, other characters also return, and Feist further develops his world.

It is exciting and entertaining, but the book is really an intermediate part in the Krondor trilogy: it picks up from the previous part and leads to the third part, so that it has no clear beginning and end on its own. Notably, Feist increasingly ends the chapters in this book with a cliffhanger.

This creates a sense of anticipation and keeps the reader engaged, eager to find out what will happen next. However, it also means that the story may feel a bit disjointed when read on its own. Overall, it is an important installment in the trilogy that builds on the previous events and sets the stage for the final part.

(Book 2 in the series.)

This is a classic fantasy that is rich in magic, swordplay, knights, and intrigue.

The characters, although rather simplistic, have still managed to pique my interest and make me eagerly anticipate my now weekly D&D roleplaying games.

I find great enjoyment in the dialogue and humor that the characters express.

The pacing of the story is brisk, which is truly amazing considering how much plot is covered in each of these 350+ -page novels.

It's as if the author has masterfully crafted a world that draws you in and keeps you engaged from beginning to end.

The combination of thrilling action, captivating magic, and charming characters makes this series a must-read for any fantasy lover.

I can't wait to see what adventures await in the next book.

Overall, this is a great addition to the fantasy genre and I highly recommend it.

The second of three books that trace their origin back to early gaming, this particular volume holds a certain allure. I had found the preceding book to be rather cumbersome, with elements of the plot feeling too blatantly game-like. However, when it comes to "Assassins", this is not the case, with the exception of one scene. I devoured this book eagerly, relishing in both the familiar characters and the new ones that were introduced.

The plot of "Assassins" is engaging and works well, and the writing is exactly what one would expect from Feist. It has a certain charm and fluidity that keeps the reader hooked from start to finish. You could most definitely read this book as a standalone story, as it stands on its own merits. Even if you haven't read the previous book in the series, you can still enjoy the adventure and excitement that "Assassins" has to offer.

Overall, I found "Assassins" to be a great read, and I would highly recommend it to fans of the genre. It's a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and leave you wanting more.

A significant improvement can be seen when compared to the truly dreadful "Krondor: The Betrayal" (#1 in this series). That previous installment seemed like a poor transcript of observing someone play a 1990s computer RPG.

Just like its predecessor, this volume is founded on the late '90s Krondor games (which, in turn, are based on Feist's world and previous books). There are still remnants of its videogaming origin, such as "we have to complete this side quest before we can go to the next area". However, the pacing has been much enhanced, and it actually gives the impression of Feist's writing style, although it may be a bit simplistic by his usual standards.

Nonetheless, it is a quick and effortless read, and the storyline is much more plot-oriented rather than gameplay-like. If you are a fan of Feist, you will enjoy this one, even if you loathed "The Betrayal". It offers a more engaging and enjoyable experience, with a better flow and a more developed plot that keeps the reader hooked from start to finish.

Lots of battling took place in the narrative. However, I was a little disappointed. It seemed that the characters would easily slash and kill their foes, yet nobody died or even got seriously maimed. This lack of real consequence took away some of the tension and realism for me.

Despite this, the story was still okay. It had its moments of excitement and intrigue. The plot had a certain flow that kept me engaged, although it didn't reach the level of being truly outstanding.

Perhaps if the battles had been more intense and the consequences more severe, it would have made the story more memorable. But as it stands, it's an average read that has its good points but also some areas that could have been improved.

The chapter began with a short sentence.

Murder, intrigue, and magic! You would think that couldn't go wrong. And indeed, the book reads very smoothly, and like a puzzle, more and more pieces fall into place around the multiple murders that suddenly occur. Then unfortunately, the story goes off on a tangent when we leave Krondor and end up in a kind of Temple of Doom setting. That costs this book 1 star in my review, which is a pity because the rest of The Assassins is still very entertaining.

Highlights: Robbie the Hand, Arutha, and William, the son of Puc, are in the party.

The author does a great job of creating a vivid and engaging world. The characters are well-developed and the plot is full of twists and turns. However, the Temple of Doom section felt a bit out of place and disrupted the flow of the story. Overall, though, it's a good read and I would recommend it to fans of fantasy and mystery.

Another great read from the author!

This book had one of my favorite characters as the main plot, and I simply adored it!

The way the author developed this character was truly remarkable. Every aspect of his personality was brought to life, making him extremely relatable and engaging.

What's more, it also set up the next book to revolve around him too. This has me incredibly excited and eager to jump right in and continue the adventure.

I can't wait to see how the story unfolds and what new challenges and experiences this beloved character will face. It's sure to be another thrilling ride!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a well-written story with a captivating main character. You won't be disappointed!

It was truly awesome.

Of course, I firmly believe that all his books are nothing short of awesome.

And for those that I haven't had the opportunity to read yet, I'm completely certain that they will be just as amazing.

He is, without a doubt, my all-time favorite author.

The characters he creates are not only unique but also incredibly vivid,仿佛跃然纸上.

The story-line is so entrancing that it keeps me hooked from the very beginning.

I simply can't wait to get my hands on the next one in this long series of books.

This series consists of several sagas, and I've been told that it's best to read them in order.

However, I have yet to do so.

Nonetheless, I'm excited to embark on this literary journey and discover all the wonderful stories that await me.

I attempted to read this, truly I did. However, I simply couldn't care less about the Mockers, the Crawler, or Jimmy at all anymore. Ugh. It's not that the writing is bad, it's just that... who really cares? I'll likely give some of the other books a try, but this one failed to capture my interest.

Update reread in 2024 (10 years later!): I can't really dispute what I initially said, yet it is indeed decently written. What amuses me is that after the first book was based on the computer game and had around 97 side quests that constantly distracted our heroes, this time we have a ridiculously linear plot with only about three main sections and that's it. Once again, every one-off or side character is far more interesting than the ones we focus on. I don't understand why that is. I still don't have any concern for the Mockers or the Crawler, and Jimmy means very little to me, but still, it was moderately enjoyable, and skimming through the dull parts still provided me with a full experience.
