Ichigo... I truly loathe rain. Astonishingly, it rains in this world too. Whenever one is upset, the skies turn cloudy. And when sadness descends, it rains. I simply cannot endure it. I wonder if you can fathom the terror of being rained upon in this desolate world. To have the power to hold back the rain, I am willing to give all that I possess. Should you place your trust in me, I vow that no rain shall fall on this world. [Zangetsu] - A truly iconic speech that lingers in the mind.
I want to commence my review by confessing that despite having watched the anime on several occasions, I never truly grasped the significance and symbolism of the rain in Bleach. However, I am gradually getting there, I promise! After the events depicted in Volume 12, as Ganju and Hanataro strive to reach Rukia and rescue her, Ichigo finds himself in a truly unenviable predicament. His adversary exudes an extreme amount of spiritual pressure and appears to be a bona fide crazy maniac who lives and breathes battles and cannot be cut. How does one fight someone like this?
CALM DOWN! CALM DOWN, CALM DOWN, CALM DOWN... I CAN WIN, I CAN WIN, I CAN WIN, I CAN WIN!! NO! NO! NO! I DON'T WANT TO DIE! I DON'T WANT TO DIE! I DON'T WANT TO DIE! Ichigo's emotional turmoil throughout the chapters is presented in such a simple yet incredibly effective manner. The reader can sense his fear palpable. Ichigo, completely lost in his panicked and terrified state, attempting to still his shaking hands and prevent himself from fleeing, is something that all of us experience at some point. It is极其difficult to face our fears, but it is something that all of us must do, if not for ourselves, then for the people we care about. Ichigo has always been a person who fights for others. The people he loves are the most crucial thing to him; he lives and dies for them. So it is no wonder that when he remembers that he is not alone in the Soul Society, that his friends are also fighting beside him to save Rukia, he realizes that he must stop running, for they will all perish if he does not.
\\"Can you hear it, Ichigo? The sound of his sword screaming?\\" In this volume, the true battle between Ichigo and Zaraki commences and concludes. It is not merely a fight between two incredibly powerful Soul Reapers; it is also a battle between two distinct ways of handling a Zanpakuto. Ichigo fights in tandem with Zangetsu, while Zaraki, believing that teaming up with a Zanpakuto is beneath a warrior, refuses to allow his sword to have any say during his battles. Both Soul Reapers are incredibly strong, but only one emerges victorious in this fight.
I had neither name nor parents. I was from Kusajishi, the 79th district of Rukongai. The only color I remember was blood red. The people around me were more beast than human. Being a baby, I could easily have been stomped to death. But then you came, Zaraki of the North Rukongai, district 80. You emerged from the depths of that dark abyss... and hacked apart my blood-soaked world. And you gave me a name. If you hadn't shown up, I wouldn't be here now. [Yachiru] The Kenpachi/Yachiru relationship is, without a doubt, one of the finest in Bleach. In this volume, we are afforded the opportunity to witness their shared backstory. They are each other's everything, and you can truly feel it. I adore how Yachiru is constantly adhered to Zaraki's back; it is so endearing. But do not be deceived into thinking that she cannot be intimidating. While Zaraki does not resemble a cinnamon roll and will kill you without a second thought, Yachiru looks like a cinnamon roll but will slay you if you激怒her (although she is very, very cute most of the time). I truly cherish her little scenes in this volume. She was so delighted to see her best friend enjoying himself with Ichigo (alright, this might sound a little off, but you know what I mean!) and even thanked Ichigo for entertaining Zaraki. All three will be the best of buddies from now on! ;)
Oh, the outcome of the Ichigo vs Zaraki fight is truly amazing. Who would have thought that Zaraki would desire to alter his deeply held beliefs and strive to become even stronger than he already is? ;)
Some other aspects that I MUST discuss: Thank goodness (or, in this case, Tite Kubo, I suppose) for Kyoraku's existence! We require a wise guy here! Ichigo's devastated expression, after realizing what had befallen Chad, is far more impactful than the one shown in the anime
